The only character I've ever appreciated is Batman, especially of late because of the new movies. Chris Nolan has made me a fan, and I've read a lot of the graphic novels, especial Year One by the great Frank Miller. The other super heroes are just annoying to me, but something about Bats and his rogues gallery sticks out and appeals to me. Maybe because it's so dark and twisted. Oh well.

i still dont think it will be DC.

DC has always catered to a more wholesome image compared to other publishing houses. i really doubt, with them trying to push the DC mmo, and the movie projects as family entertainment.. that they would sign off on their properties being mangled in a Mortal Kombat game.

the 2 properties just do not mix well. now thats not to say i dont believe it could be some kind of crossover. but all thats known is "another intellectual property" is included.

this could relate to something as simple as licensed arenas/backgrounds. you never know.

Best idea:

MK vs. DC on Wii
MK8 on PS3 and XBOX 360

Good idea:

MK8 on PS3 and XBOX360

Bad idea:

MK vs. DC on PS3 and XBOX 360 as the only MK game.

I bet the MK team are laughing there asses off right now.......

There is just absolutely no way that an MK vs. DC game would work. It has to be a joke.

The more I think about it, why not have supes and bats secret characters; characters that are just there, like Meat and Mokap. LOL! Just a suggestion, but in all seriousness, that is all I could probably handle. Anything more and I'd be peeved.

the working title for the much troubled Justice League movie is "Justice League Mortal". Probably unrelated...OR IS IT?

Hopefully because the Justice League members face off against mortals. The Justice League gone berserk!!! No, really, that is probably just a korny ass title that references the story. Trust me, I know my superhero shit, and the Justice League will not feature MK in its movie. Why? Because WB would'nt bank on that after Annihilation. lol No sir, not when they're on cloud nine because of Superman Returns and The Dark Knight.

I only like X-Men from Marvel as well, although The Last Stand movie was quite shit compared to the greatness of X2. They pulled a Batman. Never get a director not suited for the job (Ratner and Schumacher or however you spell his name)

I'm with ya on that one. Bats is the only character I liked, and to be honest I don't even really like him, I just love his villains. I'm all about Marvel. X-Men was my gateway drug, and now I read half of what they put out every week. So yea, DC vs. MK is gonna have to be a maybe rent, never buy deal for me.

somthing like a spawn cross over wouldnt be too far fectched but still....theres just one problem, spawn is the only good char in his series.

if anything would fit a mk crossover, it would be ki. hands down.

Well yea, ive been saying Mortal Kombat vs Killer Instinct for years. But as Mortal Kombat vs a comic book theme id have to say Spawn, and then next would have to be Marvel. Id never consider DC. Blah.

Mortal Kombat vs War Gods wouldn't be too bad but War Gods isn't popular enough for that game.

Mortal Kombat vs Serial Killers would be kinda interesting. Killers from all the popular Horror movies. Like Freddy Krueger, Jason, Leather Face, etc...

But if I was to choose it would be MK vs KI and second choice would be MK vs Spawn.

I see that most of you don't read DC Comics because if you did you would realise that most of them are actually really good. The current Green Lantern and Batman comics are especially good.

Yes it doesn't matter how good the DC comic stories are...Batman still looks like well batman. Superman will always look gay as well hes superman. They would have to get all new outfits but then they wouldn't be superman or batman, they would be new characters.

I've got to say, going back to games like Justice League Task Force and onward to the X-Men beat 'em ups, I've never seen the appeal of ramming these characters frivilously into a fight set-up. Their contextual reference comes from on-going adventure, so it stands to reason that a platformer, adventure, and other games with a real-time development would suit them far better.

That's not really what's got me sour on MK vs DCU, though.
I don't think anyone could deny that, in a year with a major Batman sequel arriving with all kinds of momentum, this is a major coup for the MK franchise, but... At the same time, doesn't this reek of a white flag of sorts, as well?

Watching the progress of industry rivals like Street Fighter, I've been very disappointed to see brands losing a lot of their joie de vivre of what made them iconic. This, for all intents in purposes, signals a similar lapse in MK history, inevitably surrendering a chunk of story to the inconsequential nature of a game that will inevitably start with a sloppy mcguffin, and end with a contract that denies future reference.

For MK, story has been the one arena in which they've really been able to beat the international opposition into submission. A game like this seems like an absolute white flag, not only by stripping the vivid MK saga out, but also by resting on the crutch of another major American property.
It's a bit like a bad joke. It's the sloppy seconds to their more successful rivals who found success with the Capcom vs Marvel games.

It's a surprise!
I want to say Midway have taken some sort of advantage of a licensing agreement that saw them distribute the recent Justice League Heroes game, but it's naive to think DC's armada of lawyers could be so sloppy.

It's a culture shock! As much as I've longed to see a solid step into comics from MK, these are two franchises I'd never have sought to bring together. Creatively they're so removed, and no doubt one side will lose out, probably MK. Because the DC heroes aren't inclined to dish death as frivilously as the gimmickery MK is famous for, but that's an intrinsic part of the franchise. Whoever buckles will come off the loser, but one wonders if the dedicated fans might be the true losers here.

So much for the next exciting step forward!
I guess we'll have to wait a while for that.

It's almost looking like Sub-Zero's (and maybe Scorpion) are back to the homogenous, overly simplified uniforms from the old games. I don't see why DC should make an effort to dress up, if MK isn't... tongue

This is a ploy by both companies.

A) DC has yet to have a hit video game. People have this wrong idea bout DC that they'r the corny comic book company, and that marvel is the "cool" one. Now, I like Marvel more, but I will be the first one admit DC is much more story driven, complex, and psychological.

Regardless, DC has sold about 3 million video games, while Marvel has sold 20. I think DC views the partnership with Midway as a means to closing that gap.

B) I also think Midway is trying to entice DC's parent company, Warner Bros, into backing future MK projects (can you imagine an MK movie on a 100 million dollar budget?)

If Midway could get WB to back an MK movie, and it did big numbers, it would help Midway out a lot with some of their financial problems.

Midway sure didn't do them many favours with the last Justice League game.

I'd love to say cramming them into a less suitable genre (beat 'em up) with a series creatively distance from their own is another folly, but gamers aren't exactly the most cerebral cats around... It might actually work, at least with American gamers... Now if they could just get their solo games in order...

Word.

This arrangement makes me want to stick my finger down my throat. So, from what I've read, Midway's pretty much willing to sell out in order to climb out of its financial hole. Lovely. Oh well, let's hope this crapfest will be a one-off and then we'll never hear of it again.

I can't see a studio foolish enough to dole out an overinflated budget for a new MK movie, which would not do ginormous numbers at the box office anyway. Not only did Annihilation pretty much kill off the franchise before it got started, MK is no longer the mainstream juggernaut it was when the first film came out.
