MK6 Makes IGNs Most Anticipated Games of 2004!
PS2 IGN has published an article entitled The Most Anticipated Games of 2004, and among the titles listed is Midway's Mortal Kombat 6! From the article:
Ever since Midway first acknowledged the existence of Mortal Kombat VI with us in mid-2003, the company has been eerily quiet regarding the game's future whereabouts. But with online retailers like EB World and Gamestop occasionally listing the game in their databases, it's almost a definite that we're going to see it this year. Expect to see more interactive environments, multiple fatalities, and the ever-elusive online play when this one is officially announced over the next couple of months. Bet on it!
While IGN refers to the game as "Mortal Kombat VI", the official title is still unconfirmed. We'll report more on MK6 as news becomes available.

Game Informer Mentions MK3 Movie, and Writer Clarification
In Issue 130 of Game Informer magazine, there is a short article concerning Mortal Kombat. At the end of the article, the following comment is made:
Strangely though, a third Mortal Kombat film is in the works, with a script by Drew McWeeny of the popular movie site Aint It Cool News.
Based on this article, Cory "Shinnokxz" Hansen of The Unofficial Mortal Kombat 3 Homepage contacted Drew McWeeny, who had this to say:
I can tell you that in 2001, I was contracted with my writing partner to write MORTAL KOMBAT 3. We wrote several drafts of it at that point.

As I understand it, Threshhold has been dealing with legal rights issues for the two years since.

Word is, they're untangling those rights now finally and plan to move forward with the film. I seriously doubt we'll be doing any further work on it at this point, and I'm not sure what script they'll finally put in front of the camera.
In addition, there is now a sound rip of the program where Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage from the original movie) is commenting on having been shown a script on the same site. While this is not confirmation that the movie is in development, it is strong evidence that the movie is still in development.

MK6 To Be Named Mortal Kombat: Deception?
Dutch gaming website Gamer.nl is reporting that Midway Games has registered the trademark Mortal Kombat: Deception. A search on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website confirms the existence of this entry. While this is not any kind of confirmation, it is strong evidence that this will be the name of the next Mortal Kombat game. In the meantime, we will contact our sources within Midway to see if we can get an official confirmation.
