With the April 19 release of Mortal Kombat drawing nearer, screenshots previously exclusive to print media are being released to the masses. Fan-site, Mortal Kombat X'Tra, have posted a crop of five images that showcase November 2010 reveal, Sonya Blade, in some of the previously released arena backgrounds.

In 2011, Mortal Kombat will return in all it's gory glory, bringing with it the deadly finishing moves that were controversially scaled back for their 2008 crossover, Versus DC Universe.

In preparation for the elaborate bloodletting and general dismemberment, IGN has picked up the gauntlet to list their Unofficial Top Ten Best Fatalities! Featured in the list are favourites like Scorpion's Toasty Flame Breath, along with some more obscure fare you might not expect.

UK magazine PocketGamer has released word that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 will be released for Java-enabled mobile phones. it's apparent that a scoring system – not used since the original Mortal Kombat I – will be making its return. Check out the screenshots: The developer is listed as Electronic Arts Mobile and not Warner Bros. The article mentions that the release date is (approximately) December 1, 2010 and that they will be posting their review of the game shortly. No word as of yet whether this confirms a release in North America, or whether this port will include Puzzle Kombat (as the Nintendo DS port did) or any other extras. Russian gaming magazine Gameland has released a preview of their upcoming feature article on Mortal Kombat.

IGN has just published a new interview with series creator Ed Boon along with a CGI trailer from the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. Below are a few excerpts from the interview.

Mortal Kombat is making the rounds today as coverage of Gamescom in Cologne, Germany has gotten under way! German fansite MKUniverse is covering the event and are reporting that the two characters alluded to by Ed Boon are the Princess of Edenia, Kitana and the yellow cyborg Cyrax. The two arenas mentioned by Ed are both from Mortal Kombat 3: The Bell Tower and Jade's Desert.

Hot on the tails of the Sonya confirmation story, there is some good evidence that Kitana is also confirmed.

On the personal webpage of Brenda Barrie (the actress who did the motion capture for Wonder Woman and Catwoman in MK vs. DC Universe), there was indication that she was going to take up the role as the Edenian Princess and that the game was to be released on December 25, 2010.

Since then, however, the page has been altered.

It seems likely that she spilled the beans a little early and was asked by Warner Bros to remove the information. Still, both Sonya and Kitana fans have reason to rejoice now, as it seems a sure thing that their favorite characters have made it into the game in some form.

There has been a definite drought of information regarding Mortal Kombat: Armageddon recently; however, our friends over at Midway know that interest in new information is strong. To that end, to give us a bit of a teaser as to what to expect, they've released to us seven exclusive load screen images! These loading screen images features grudge matches made popular in the games (and one from the movies!); they show Johnny Cage and Goro, Cyrax and Sektor, Kitana and Mileena, Reiko and Shao Kahn, two images of Sub-Zero and Scorpion, and Liu Kang (in zombie form) and Shang Tsung!

The game may already be out, but Cinder is still at it! This time, another render from MK: Shaolin Monks: fan favorite Kitana. Check it out:

Cinder over on the Midway Boards has released two more pieces of concept art from Midway's upcoming action-adventure game, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks! These pieces of concept art (which are smaller than the previous two that Cinder released) feature the Edenian princess-turned-assassin Kitana and everyone's favorite Shokan Goro!
