You should just buy one on Ebay, it'd save you a million headaches and probably be cheaper in the long run.

Yeah, $1000 is insane. I picked up a nice UMK3 1.1 for $350 on ebay, and later I got a SF2 cabinet for $175 and bought an MK2 board for $30 and I just had to make a new control panel. MK2, by the way, gets no play next to that UMK3 machine.
