Well if you are talking Arcade to home conversions I would say that all the MK's on the SEGA genesis were painful to look at.

The best versions of Arcade to home games from the MK series in my opinion are....

MK II for the SNES
Mortal Kombat 3 for the PSX
Mortal Kombat 4 for the N64

I heard that the Amiga version of the original MK was pretty good. Does anyone have any pictures of that? What about MK II for the Amiga?

How can you say that! Almost all of the MK games were on sega genesis. Besides, The MK bonuses were better on the sega games.

How can I say that? The Genesis versions of the MK games all fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down. Look at MK II for the Genesis, heck even 32X and then look at the SNES version. Which would you rather play?

Admitted the Genesis versions had some cool tricks, like the flag settings in MK 1 and the cheat menu's in part II and 3 but I would much rather play the SNES versions of the games. That is choosing between SNES and Genesis.

It doesn't matter what they look like IMO, but what they play like. And the Genesis versions had better gameplay, with an exception of MK2 (MK2 sucks anyway). Also, if you had a 6-buton controller, it made it a lot better. I nearly burned my UMK3 Genesis cartridge back in the day.

Some very valid points are coming out in this. The key ones I would highlight are:

MKII was better for SNES then Genesis or 32x in every way, because it had the better graphics and the gameplay didn't matter too much since it was kinda blah to start with.

MK1 SNES was missing the blood, but I still think it was far better since EVERYTHING else about it was better. The graphics and sounds for Genesis were a crime. And again, the gameplay didn't matter a ton since, well, the gameplay was so simplistic.

MK3 and UMK3 we hit a problem. They both looked Hideous for Genesis, but Genesis had the more accurate gameplay compared to the SNES. ANd, by this point, for the sake of fitting everybody on the SNES cart, the SNES version of UMK3 was pretty damned hideous as well. MK3 was tolerable, but I couldn't stand UMK3. I would have to say MK3, the worst was Genesis, UMK3, Genesis eeks out a win thanks to its better gameplay and SNES' bad presentation.

MK4 for PSX and PC looked bad. N64 looked much better. I don't know about the gameplay for them compared to the arcade since the gameplay seemed thoroughly generic for all of them.

And, my conclusion, MK4 for Gameboy was the worst fighting game ever created. Ever.

I heard that MK 4 for the GB was pretty bad. I think I read somewhere that certain features of that game made it look like a hack of MK 3 for the GB. I know it is wrong of me to do this but I really like the games to look close to the arcade and provide the gameplay as well. I'm just like that I suppose.

Added to the list of worst conversions would have to go Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the N64 (not really a conversion, more like UMK 3 plus). The sounds, music, and colors in that game should have been so much better.

I actually rented the Gameboy MK2 from Blockbuster back in the day (Gameboy was the only gaming system I had at the time, other than my Amiga computer). Only two stages, the Kombat Tomb and the Pit II (kind of pointless since you couldn't even do the Pit II fatality), the gameplay was chopped to hell, control was horrible (only A and B buttons, I think you like used Select to block or something like that), and of course ugly ugly UGLY to look at. I guess it's enjoyable on an ironic level though.

I always wondered what MK Trilogy on the Game.Com was like, I imagine it must have been pretty abysmal.

What about MK Advance on GBA? Never played it, but it seems like I've only heard bad things about it. Most reviews I've seen complain that the CPU is too cheap, but I'd like to hear an opinion that really matters. I just assume it can't be that good since no one bothers to bring it up in MKT discussions.

Oh wow I can't believe I forgot MK3 for PC. That was the best home port of an MK game ever.

MKT for Game.com was a joke. Seriously, the manufacturers sat down and said "well this whole thing is going to fail miserably, lets have some fun"

mk1 = genesis only because it kept the blood intact (even if u had to do that easy code)

mk2 = snes. the genesis version actually made me cry....

mk3 = psx, but the snes and genesis versions werent as bad as i thought they would be

umk3 = i guess you can say the saturn because that was the only "arcade perfect" port, for the 16-bit systems i'd say genesis unfortunately.

mkt = psx easily, but i actually preferred the saturn version.

mk4 = hard to say, but i kinda liked it better on psx

mkda = xbox. and thats only because i feel more comfortable with that controller

mkd = same as mkda. but from mkda on they all pretty much were the same.

Based On What I Owned & Played

Best MK1 - Snes, Not So Great - Genesis - because Snes it look and feel more arcade like than the Genesis version, and I'm a Genesis fan lol, but what screwed the Snes version is that it didn't have blood.furious
Best MK2 - Sega 32X, Not So Great - Both Genesis & Snes - both the Genesis and Snes versions of MK2 brought me to tears when playing them, the graphics suck on both versions, but Sega got a second chance with the 32X version and did a somewhat good job with it.
MK3 - No Comment
Best UMK3(Not couting Saturn) - Sega Genesis all the way, smile Not So Great - Snes - if any of the MK games between the Genesis & Snes that the Genesis totally kicked Snes ass all around, this one would be it.
Best MKT - PS, Not So Great - N64, even with the long ass loading time PS had I would still play it over the N64 version, I owned the N64 & rented the PS version, N64 could had been alot better.
Best MK4- N64, Not So Great - PS, now PS made had the character movies, but it just didn't compare to the N64 in graphics & gameplay, and also the N64 version had Kitana(Tanya lighttoned with her yellow outfit being black) but with a Gameshark.

UMK 3 for the Saturn is hardly arcade perfect at all. It Looks good, but the load times and the timing of characters isn't all there and many of the backrounds don't play the proper music which often time annoys me.

The load times......goodness! How awful.

I second that! You could tell the devolopers really took pride in their work. With so many half-assed ports out there, especially in the MK universe, this truly stood out as something different. The stuff that really mattered was all there, and even the intangibles were handled with care and respect... a nice interface, elegant menus, great use of CD Audio, and heck even really nice packaging. Plus there were the CD bonus tracks and the PC-exclusive command line codes. I'm not even sure who to give credit to (GT Interactive?) but whoever is responsible did an amazing job. They should have turned MK Trilogy over to those people, the PC version would have been tremendous.

Yeah, definately. The neatest part I think was that computers at the time were far from powerful and this game would run on some pretty slow computers even by the standards of the time. And, they took the time to make it compatible with different levels of sophistication. So if your computer couldnt handle all of the sounds it would load up a smaller set of sounds. It got kind of weird when most of the guys in the game yelled the same "Hey!" off of everything, but its better then having no sound or having slow down.

Yeah I had a Pentium 133 Mhz when I got that game. I had to do all this config.sys crap to get it to run, but once it started up it always played smooth.
