In this instance, even the arcade version is pretty shitty with all those glitches (even Reptile's face eater fatality freezes the game :(). I've played every version but the PC version and I hear it's even better than the arcade. Someone wanna give some detail on the pc version? Yes I own MKG but that's also so glitchy it's not even fun. Are the graphics on the PC version remotely close to the arcade using 3d accelerator? Also where to get patches for the game after I buy it (if I do depending on reviews here)?

Man, do not believe it...I played every version of Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade, Pc, N64, Playstation, Game Boy Color and Dreamcast)And the Pc version is still worse than the arcade and Dreamcast versions (graphicaly speaking).
But i confess you that i never played it in 3dfx accelerator card and i like to see any images of mortal Kombat 4 running with this card and i will like a lot, too, for anyone who run this game in this card, a litle Graphic review of it, too...

I believe that N64, PS and PC versions all used the same lower poly count models for the characters so thats why they are all the same. Even with a 3D accelerator the graphics of the PC version don't look all that spectacular except you get coloured lighting effects. The box actually says "3D accelerator cards are supported but not required". If you can find a copy of MK4 Enhanced then the graphics are the same as the arcade/DC versions.
If only MKG was on PC or even better MK:DA.

Ok I got MK4 and downloaded MK4E. Everything's gravy. But how do I change the select screen back to normal without Mileena, Cyrax, etc?

Nevermind I got it. Answers my question too. PC version is without a doubt the best version of MK4

What are you talking about? I've got a MK4 cabinet in my home and I have never seen the game lock up after that Fatality.
Revision 3 boards have a glitch where doing Reptile's acid spit to Scorpion can reset the game though.

The PC version isnt the best version if you ask me. Theres no loading time but when you do fatalities theres no music, plus its easier to ue a controler then the keyboard when playing this game.

Yeah I read this faq and got confused. I only played the arcade game a few times.

Uhh yeah there is. You can use controllers. I use a Dual Shock with the PSX/PC controller converter. Works perfectly.
3d acceleration in the PC-version licks ass...I guess every Mk4 version (except MK Gold) have the same poly count, the N64 version seems to have slightly compressed textures...
All in all N64-MK4 still is my fav port !! Coz it has few glitches, runs stable and fatalities aren't glitchy too... MK Gold has the best graphics but has horrible bugs !!!

I'm intriegued (and I can't spell), where did you download MK4E? this is the first I've heard of it and I want it... I have MK4 for PC and am dissapointed by the low polys compared to the arcade.. where do you get MK4E?

MK Gold is by far the best version, IMO. Sure, it has it's share of glitches but all MK games do.
I built an arcade joystick for this game and it feels like I'm playing it in the arcade! All Sega controllers suck, going back to the Master System and up to the X-Box.
Sektor and Kitana are the best in the game.
Sektor = Unlimited heat seeking missles...sorry, but you're dead.
Kitana = One fan hits you and you're in max damage (Kung Lao is like this, but it's harder to setup his hat throw).

don't get me wrong, i love mortal kombat and i thought mortal kombat 4 was clever. but it was the worst one.
graphically - it had the most glitches, was totally unrealistic, and when body parts were servered, they became hollow.
story line - it completely interrupts the story line about shao kahn going into shinnok and quan chi and completely taking the story from mythologies and putting it into a fighting style mode. (and i'm sorry if this happend in mythologies before mortal kombat 1 even took place, how the hell could it have also happend in mortal kombat four?)
codes/cheats - lame.
mk gold was even more usless. but i won't get into that. now i know people are going to bitch but, hey, it's true.

You have to know how to solder and do woodwork. Get buttons, cherry switches, and a joystick somewhere whether it be a local arcade or from an internet site like massystems.com. It gets pretty expensive.
It's a real pain in the ass, but the only way you can get the MK3/U/4 button layout. This was before I got my X-Arcade stick though.

I had the X-Arcade but it pretty much sucks ass with MK Trilogy and MK Gold. Since the DC only used 6 buttons you can't configure it with the arcade style controls unless you manually take the stick apart and move the buttons to where you want them. MK Trilogy was weird when I played it. Floating characters, game freezing up, etc. Not sure why.

Man...you must be playing MKT some wierd way cuz I don't get any glitches and I play both PSX and N64.
As for X-Arcade, use the Playstation adapter with the Dreamcast. You'll need a DC->PSX converter, but then you can use the bottom button for run.
Kitana = Cheap bitch! Her fan throw is really Hold HP, F,F+LP...hit with that and you can do 2 more fans then run up and uppercut for 52%! I'd have to say that Kitana is better than Sektor because of those MAD FANS of hers!

I was thinking about getting a DC/PSX converter. Which buttons work for a regular Playstation Dual Shock with MKG? The bigger question is does it work well?

I like the PC version. I felt it had the best sound and graphics. U have cheats in the Pc rather than playstation. I wish they did have the one button fatalies
. They had the movies ( N64 movies sucked). I felt they made it perfect( well as long as your not using a keyboard).

I disagree. I think MK3 was the worst. I do feel they could have put more time into MK4, but three was just repatition of two with lossy characters. Thats just my opion though.

Yeah I know, I didn't even like to play as them because they are so cheap. Scropion was probably the strongest in MK4, but in the new characters are so damn cheap.
MK4 has better balance, but I liked MKGold more because I could choose weapons. That and I really enjoyed Cyrax.
I use an import Ascii 6-Button Controller for MKGold, found here http://www.toysnjoys.com/access_dc_2.html
Great controller.

Glad you topped this post ;). My arcade just got MK4 in (yes I thanked them for being 6 years late). What are some of the differences between the home versions and arcade and what kind of nifty stuff can I try out? And I changed my mind again. MK4 for arcade is the best version
. By the way it's revision 3
