I looked over the entire Mortal Kombat Encyclopaedia, and created a reference of every unknown or abandoned character in the timeline. Hopefully these descriptions will inspire some of you with illustrations or fictions for the Fan Submission forum. Though some of the characters were killed, Midway has always enjoyed resurrecting them... Special thanks to the person who created the Encyclopaedia, if I knew who they were!

Adrina - Princess whose altar was located in Sin Kiang.

Apep - A disciple of Bo' Rai Cho.

Baphomet - An Elder Demon, Baphomet was a mysterious warrior from the Netherealm.

Belokk - An elusive warrior who fought in the war between the Earth realm and Shinnok's forces.

Ben - A professional martial arts expert who fought in the aftermath of the Deadly Alliance conflict.

Beran - A soldier in the US Special Forces. He was with Jax when their patrol found Johnny Cage in the middle of the ocean. After interrogating Cage, they received a signal from Sonya Blade in Outworld, warning them that Outworld warriors were out ot get Liu Kang and Johnny Cage. The pair arrived at Cage's Hollywood studio, where Shang Tsung and his warrior had already shown up. While Jax attacked Kintaro, Beran provided covering fire. Mileena took on the Special Forces officer and, even though he had a gun, she managed to defeat him, performing a fatality and spitting out his bones. Cage found his remains after Tsung had disappeared with his warriors.

Blade, Daniel - Sonya Blade's twin brother. He died before she entered her first Mortal Kombat tournament.

Blade, Erica - Sonya Blade's mother.

Blade, Herman - Sonya Blade's father who served in the US Army as a Major.

Braan - A fisherman in Outworld who had a dispute with Gohsk. He paid Shujinko not to tell his opponent of hisl ocation.

Carlton, Robert - Johnny Cage's father.

Carlton, Rose - Johnny Cage's mother.

Carlton, Rebecca - Johnny Cage's sister.

Chow Kang - Liu Kang's brother.

Death Knight - An ancient warrior who wielded the Thor Axe. An inscription depicting this warrior adorned the walls in the Beetle Lair, where the Thor Axe resided up until the time of the battle with the Dragon King.

DJ - A Black Dragon member who tried to stop Jax from pursuing Kano and the Eye of Chitian.

Edenian Ambassador To New Realms - Queen Sindel's amabassador after Edenia was freed from Shao Kahn's rule. However, his daughter, Tanya, betrayed her people by allowing Quan Chi and his minions into Edenia, posing as refugees from Treche.

Eliza - Queen whose alter was in the lost city of Sin Kiang.

Evil Sumo - A mysterious warrior about whom little was known.

Ford, Cindy - Johnny Cage's ex-wife.

Gemini - Jax's operations contact at Special Forces Headquarters, she provided support and intelligence on his mission to investigate the Black Dragon and find Kano. She seemed to have quite an affection for the Major which may have gone beyond friendship.

God of Earth - One of the guardians of Shinnok's amulet in the Shaolin Temple. An immense entity made of rock, he guarded Shinnok's amulet after it had been placed there by Raiden. His part of the temple was also guarded by Shaolin Monks and contained many traps for the unwary intruder. He was defeated by SubZero.

God of Fire - One of the guardians of Shinnok's amulet in the Shaolin Temple. The entity dressed in the attire of a samurai warrior. Able to teleport, he could direct fire at his opponents. He was the last of the guardians to be defeated by Sub-Zero whilst stealing the amulet.

God of Water - One of the guardians of Shinnok's amulet in the Shaolin Temple. An entity made up entirely of water, he guarded Shinnok' s amulet in the Temple of Elements. His part of the temple was a huge cistern which contained many traps and snares. The God of Water took on the form of a human, but was able to return to his natural state when needed. He was defeated by SubZero.

Gohsk - A man in Outworld who hired Shujinko to find his enemy, Braan.

Gorbak - Goro's father and king of the subterranean realm of Shokan.

Grimm, Michael – A fighter who resembled Johnny Cage in the tournament on Shang Tsung’s island.

Hachiman - A red-clad warrior who carried a long sword, who was dressed in a ninja-like outfit.

Hornbuckle - A unknown fighter in Shao Kahn's Outworld tournament. He resembled Liu Kang and was seen in the distance near the Pit arena, but not even Jade knew who he was.

Jagatai - The son of Genghis Khan, this Mongol warrior originally ruled a large part of Khan's empire. At some point, he and some of his warriors found the gateway in Sin Kiang and travelled to Outworld, where they were defeated by the Guardians of the Eye of Chitian. They became a part of the undead army guarding the Eye.

Jataaka - One of Quan Chi's personal assassins, working with Kia and Sareena. Her uniform was that of a Netherealm ninja, with Shinnok's mark on the front. She also bore his mark on her arms, and held one of the keys to the teleport which operated between Shinnok's fortress and Quan Chi's lair. Jataaka was defeated by Sub-Zero on his quest for Shinnok's amulet. As her master was also defeated by the Lin Kuei, she was spared Shinnok's wrath. When the fallen Elder God launched his attack on the other gods, she served in his Army of Darkness alongside Quan Chi and Kia.

Jerrod - Former King of Edenia. He tried to prevent Kahn's invasion by instigating a form of the Mortal Kombat tournament, which his fighters lost. Kahn stepped through the portals and laid claim to the realm, overcoming Jerrod's forces with his own army of mutants. Jerrod was killed by Kahn, while his wife, Sindel, was taken as his empress. Their daughter, Kitana, was placed under Kahn's guardianship.

Jonas - A man linked to the attempt to steal an experimental nuclear device by the Black Dragon. Killed in Outworld by the Guardians of the Eye of Chitian, he became one of their number.

Kang - A king whose alter was in Outworld. Jax used a Dragon Eye jewel on it to open a portal.

Khan - A warrior who fought in the battle between Earth Realm and the combined forces of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. It was unclear if he was related to Shao Kahn, or even the last emperor of Outworld himself.

Kia - One of Quan Chi's female assassins in the Netherealm. One of Quan Clii's personal assassins, working with Jataaka and Sareena. Her uniform was that of a Netherealm ninja, with Shinnok's emblem on the front. She also bore his mark on her arms, and held one of the crystal keys to the teleport which operated between Shinnok's fortress and Quan Chi's lair. Kia was defeated by Sub-Zero on his quest for Shinnok's amulet. As her master was also defeated by the Lin Kuei, she was spared Shinnok's wrath. When the fallen Elder God launched his attack on the other gods, she served in his Army of Darkness alongside Quan Chi and Jataaka.

Kid Thunder - Raiden's offspring who accompanied him on trips to tournaments. He had inherited his dad's powers, but he still needed to borrow one of Raiden's hats.

Konga - The biggest of the Makeba drummers, who would challenge both warriors in the event of a tie during their trials.

Krypt Keeper - The guardian of the Krypt.

Kun-Lo - The Face of Kun-Lo was modelled on this individual, of whom little was known.

Lee Kang - Liu Kang 's father.

Lin Kang - Liu Kang 's mother.

Lucifer - Former ruler of the Netherealm, whose demons tormented Shinnok for thousands of years. With Quan Chi's help, Shinnok waged war against Lucifer and his forces, which lasted for hundreds of years. Shinnok emerged victorious and destroyed his predecessor.

Mai - Goro's mother and Queen of Shokan.

Malcolm - A doctor who led a top team of surgeons, implanting Kano's prosthetic eye after he escaped from USSF jail.

Mekko - A bully in Shujinko's home village, who extorted lunch money from other boys. The victims asked Shujinko to get their money, which he did.

Mongol Warrior - A unknown warrior who fought in Mortal Kombat.

Muchacha - A female warrior who was seen during the invasion of Earth Realm by Shao Kahn.

Mystman - Black Dragon warrior who guarded the gateway to Outworld, working with Tremor and an elite team of fighters.

Netherrealm Hound - A creature which was mentioned in Earth Realm mythology; it existed within the Netherealm itself.

No-Face - One of Kano's Black Dragon members. Sprung from the Special Forces jail, he helped Kano to find the Eye of Chitian. Defeated by Jax soon afterwards. Weapons: Flamethrower, Explosive Charges.

No Neck - Black Dragon thug who was involved in the theft of an experimental nuclear device from the US Special Forces.

Prison Keeper - Keeper of the Prison of Souls. Appeared as a giant mecha armed with a chainsaw attachment on one arm. He held one of the keys to the elevators which allowed movement around the prison. This creature was responsible for the imprisonment and torture of all souls in the Netherealm. Under him was an army of guards to enforce the law, which was made by Lucifer, Shinnok or whatever ruler there was at the time. He captured Sub-Zero, but was subsequently defeated by the ninja as he sought to escape from the prison. Weapon: Chainsaw.

Quin - Member of the Black Dragon who served under Kano.

Rhiana - Queen whose alter was in the lost city of Sin Kiang.

Rokuro – Rokuro belonged to a race of demon warriors called the Rokuro-Kubi (Demons of the Dark). Reputed to be savage barbarians, Rokuro used this misrepresentation against his opponents. He used the tournament to restore the pride and respect of his race

Sanchez - Special Forces lieutenant killed by Kano's gang in an ambush.

Sandman - Armed with two buzz-saws as weapons, this warrior reputedly took part in the war against Shao Kahn's forces during his invasion of Earth.

Shil Kaad - An evil sorcerer who allegedly enslaved the people of Treche. In reality, he was an invention of Quan Chi's imagination, used to trick Queen Sindel.

Siobhan -Siobhan was a martial arts mistress who fought in the Deadly Alliance conflict.

Skab - A warrior who fought in the aftermath of the Deadly Alliance conflict.

Soo - General in the Peoples Republic of China Army, who tried to stop Jax from reaching Sin Kiang.

Sophia - Red-haired special agent who helped Jax in his pursuit of the Black Dragon.

Surgeon - One of the medical staff who gave Kano his eye implant, working with Dr Malcolm.

Takeda - founder of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan. Formerly a Lin Kuei warrior, the Japanese warrior went rogue and established his own clan. He eventually died from poisoning, but his body was kept by the clan as a mark of respect. The sorcerer Quan Chi took his remains from them after he had destroyed the clan, presenting the skeleton to the Lin Kuei Grandmasters as part of a deal.

Tasia - A ninja who worked for the Black Dragon, she was captured by US Special Forces. She and the rest of the gang were released by Kano, helping him to find the Eye of Chitian. Tasia tried to stop Jax as he pursued Kano, but failed. Rumours spread soon afterwards that the the ninja was far from dead and would surface again to take her vengeance on the USSF.

Tiamat - A reptilian warrior who fought during the Deadly Alliance conflict. It was unknown if he was related to the Raptors.

Torch - A mysterious fighter, also called Blaze.

Tremor - A ninja with the ability to control earthquakes, who worked for the Black Dragon. He wore a brown uniform. Defeated by Jax in Sin Kiang as he tried to stop the Special Forces officer from pursuing Kano.

Trom – A warrior from Shao Kahn’s tournament, about whom little is known.

Tsung - A king whose alter could be found in Outworld. Jax used a Dragon Eye jewel on the alter to open a portal.

Tundra – A Lin Kuei ninja in Shang Tsung’s last tournament on his island.

Undead General - The leader of the Dragon King's army, answerable only to the Dragon King himself.

Xian - An individual associated with the Black Dragon's attempt to steal an experimental nuclear device.

Yoshitsune Minamoto – Huge barbarian-like fighter who fought in the tournament in Outworld. Yoshitsune was a direct descendant of Japan’s great Minamotot Clan, and was highly skilled in all the martial arts. Earth Realm mythology had it that he received secret tuition from the Tengu Mountain demons who were expert swordsmen and masters of all martial arts.

Zebron - Mysterious warrior who appeared to be a circus ringmaster: he was a bipedal zebra who utilised a staff and hat as weapons. Prince Zebron led his race of Zebramen to freedom as they chanted the call "Viva Zebron!"

Zeffeero - The Overlord of Lei Chen city in Outworld. He rebelled against Shao Kahn after years of serving the emperor. Mileena had Shujinko deliver a message to him. Either Zeffeero gave his own head, or Mileena and the Tarkata army would take it anyway and the lives of all who lived in the city. Zeffeero sent Shujinko to the Realm of Order in an attempt to get reinforcements. He told Shujinko the location of Outworld's Kamidogu and the Earth Realm warrior fought Jade for its possession. Damashi demanded that it be placed at the altar in the Nexus, leaving Shujinko with a dilemma: what to offer the Seidan Guard in return for their aid? He offered Hotaru the city itself as payment, which he duly collected. Zeffeero was stripped of his rank by Hotaru.
