I was looking through the concept art section of MK:DA the other day. Some of the sketches (assuming you've unlocked everything in the Krypt) featured new characters that were meant to be in MK:DA but they didn't make it. After looking through everything, I found out there were five new characters that were designed but were unable to be playable in the game. They are:

Baphomet
Siobhan
Dairou (2 sketches)
Hachiman
Tiamat

Which of these characters would you have liked to make it in the game? I thought Dairou looked pretty cool. It would've been interesting if someone like him was in MK:DA. His swords were cool-looking and his costume in one of his sketches looked great. I also liked his story that you can see under the info for one of his sketches. What do you think? Would you have liked it if one of these characters made it in MK:DA?

for some reason, baphomet, i really liked the way he looked for some reason, dairuo(how ever you spell his name) would be second, he was cool and i think he is the reason that scorpion didnt use the swords on his back...that made me mad...also Tiamat, they left that idea i think, because it says they took a lot of his properties and but them into reptile, which was a mistake IMO.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Hachiman. Yeah, he's cool too. Aside from Dairou, he was the character I wanted to make it into MK:DA. It's a shame a few of the characters in the sketches didn't make it in the game. Some of them looked pretty sweet.

Yes, that's true. But it seems to be a general rule since MK3 that the "new" characters have very little chance of making it into the next game. I also liked Kai and had hoped to see him in MK:DA but alas.

Well anyway Hachiman is in my fictional MK Legacies :p. I think I like him because he looks so evil and mean. Baphomet was a bit too MK4-ish for my tastes, reminding me of Shinnok & co.

It's been the case since MK2. You do realise that only 3 of the new characters introduced in MK2 have survived? Kung Lao, Jax and Kitana (not counting UMK3, MKT or MK Gold). They've been doing it since then too.

Back to the topic at hand though, I also found it interesting about the battlegrounds concept art as well. There's a few arenas in the krypt (the swamplands one comes to mind) that didn't make it into the final game. It's a pity too, that swamplands arena look pretty cool.

Yes, I had thought of that but realised that Midway rectified that "mistake" with UMK3. Still of the "new" warriors in MK2 (not counting Sub-Zero), three playable and one unplayable made it into MK3. That's more than the amount of "new" characters in MK3 that went to MK4 (0, to be precise sad).

Peace,

Yeah but Cyrax has returned in MK: DA, and Sektor has been confirmed to be in MK: TE. I'd say there's a pretty good chance that Sektor will return in the next mainstream installment of the MK series (in fact if you look at some of the stuff in the Krypt you can tell that they were definately considering putting him into MK: DA but he never made it). I still think Kabal has a chance of coming back too. He was a popular character in MK3. Who knows, he might come back in MK6 to get revenge on Mavado for attempting to murder him and stealing his hookswords. Maybe even Sheeva will return to avenge the death of Goro. You never know what they are thinking...they definately surprised me by putting Cyrax MK: DA. They'll surprise us again.

While we're still on topic, I've also noticed that some of the classic characters were meant to be in the game but didn't make it. In the concept art, there are sketches for these classic characters meant to be playable in MK:DA:

Sindel
Kai
Shao Kahn

If you like, you can also say which of these classics you wanted to make it in the game.

I noticed that you wrote this and decided to include the classic characters in my thread. Anyway, I also liked the Kai concept. My guess is that if he was in MK:DA, he would still be with the White Lotus society, maybe helping out Kung Lao. I liked the drawings for Kai. So, anyone else want to reply?

I don't think they were ever considering Shao Kahn to be playable. That concept art was probably their drawings for how he was modelled in the opening cinema.

I don't know why they put Shao Khan. After all he was killed.Unless they found an excuse to bring him back from the dead...
