Ok to me MK3 was a very good game gameplay wise. Sure it was not perfect but still very good. However I think that it was lacking on many other points.

1-the backgrounds: most of them were boring, I think that the coolest background in MK3 was 'the church' and it was mostly because of the music.

2-the gameplay too difficult for the average fan: even today I'm not able to do in a match the full combo for characters like Liu Kang and Jax. Ok I'm not trying that much but not everybody have this time

Also gameplay wise, I think that for example it sucks that we had to charge for Kano cannonball. I think that a back, front low kick movement would have been a lot better but it's just a personal opinion.

3-THE CHARACTERS. Ok today now that 10 years have pass, some people have nostalgia and start talking about how Stryker is a great character and all. True he was fun to play 'gameplay wise' but other then that he totally suck. I would have had no problem with lets say a red dragon member with similar cool moves and a better look, but please Stryker was totally out of place.

To me:

Cool characters in MK3:

Sub-Zero(I've got no problem with the maskless version it was creative)
Kano(other then having to charge for the cannonball he was cool)
Jax(the metal arms were a nice addition, his combos were hard to do)
Sonya(better looking then ever)
Kabal(only new cool character IMO)
Kung Lao(cool look, cool moves)
Liu Kang

thats it...

Bad characters:

Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor(only one robot would have been great, 2 would have been acceptable, 3 was just a waste of space instead of putting some classic returning character like Reptile, Scorpion, Cage, or Rayden)

Sindel(ok I hate her, they should have replace her with Kitana, if not they should have changer her look and make her more similar to Sareena in MKM with shorter hair etc)

Stryker(read above)

Nightwolf(he was looking too stereotypical and not original enough, he was looking like a complete ripoff of the indian dude in Street Fighter(forgot his name))

Sheeva(ok for the gameplay factor she was fun to play with, that's the only good thing I've got to say about her)

Shang Tsung(his look sucks!) they should have take a different actor to do him. Come on John Turk did Sub-Zero, all the ninjas, all the robots, Kabal, Shang Tsung and Nightwolf. They should have take a chinese actor to do Shang. Or maybe the guy who did Shang in the first MK movie.

I think they made MK3 exactly how they invisioned it, a game to make some money before they released the real version of the game, UMK3. Had they released UMK3 as it is (impossible because of the fixes they made and there would have been tons of revisions like MK2) without every making MK3, UMK3 would be heralded nearly unanimously as the greatest MK of all time.

Personally, I think everyone is cool.

I like the new characters from MK3 more than the new additions in MK:DA/D, although i never really liked the idea of the the cyber-ninjas.

And i think you'll find that kabal was played by Rich Divizio and Nightwolf and the cyberninjas by Sal Divita. But you make a good point about a chinese actor for Shang Tsung.

I think mk3 and umk3 where the last mk games with good characters.Mk4 was a distaster all the new fighters came along with there cheese and cartoonish look it really was the downfall of series. It became more geared to kids at least thats how i see it. After those cheesy mk movies and action figures, cartoons, comicbooks, rings, watches god enough is enough over exposure hurt the franchise big time.

Well, MK3 is one of my fave MK games...

As I've said a few times before, it has a fantastic apocalyptic aura. Obviously the story, the desolate arenas, Raiden's AWESOME message at the begining etc.

Imo, the cast is great too. The only characters I'm not thrilled about are Nightwolf and Sonya (and Noob - who was kinda pointless to put in), everyone else is cool. Good specials, and of course, kick-ASS combos! Most were neccessary story wise, and some of the best characters debuted in 3 (Cyber Smoke, Sektor, Cyrax, Sindel, Sheeva, Motaro and KABAL) As well as improving classic characters like Kung Lao, Sub Zero and Jax...

The combos and the addition of the run button really changed MK from the snail-paced mk1 and 2...

Overall, it is tied with Trilogy as my fave mk...

i never really focus on the backgrounds when i am playing this game or any other MK. when i look back on MK3's backgrounds the only ones that were really interesting were the subway, soul chamber, the graveyard, and the temple. as for the new characters i liked Sektor, Cyrax, Kabal, and Nightwolf. Stryker did have good moves but that was about it. i like Shang Tsung's costume personally. it looked more evil than his MK2 costume in the game. strangely when i see artwork of Shang Tsung his MK2 costume suits him more.

I disagree. MK3 is my fav out of the 2-D MKs. I think they have a wide selection of characters. Each of the new character in MK3 saga have there own style in not just look a but as well as they handle in terms of moves that have as well as combos.

i hate the MK3 roster. i dont like any of the chars that were new in MK3 except for Sektor (Sektor 4th all time fav). only others i played as were Liu Kang and Sub-Zero. well Shang Tsung is in MK3 and hes like the ultimate char but i could never remember how to do all the morphing so i never played as him. every one else i pretty much hated. only a couple i didnt hate but still didnt like really. having Scorpion, Reptile, and Rayden in MK3 would of been so much better. hell if that were the case then MK3 would maybe of been my fav for some time. i do like the backgrounds in MK3 tho. a couple of my all time fav backgrond r from MK3 like the Roof Top and tha Subway and the Desert with Cyrax out there. lol. loved those. also another thing i really liked about MK3 was Motaro. hes my 2nd fav sub-boss/boss ever in MK (Onaga first). and even tho i couldnt play as Motaro (i didnt know how to unlock him for 2 players) he was one of my top fav characters back then. primarly there was only 5 chars i liked back then. Liu Kang, Reptile, Sub-Zero, Sektor, and Motaro. liked Rayden/Raiden, Scorpion, and Baraka as well too i guess...

any ways ya MK3 is the 2nd MK game i dislike the most of them all (not including adventure ones). MK1 has to be first. simply how i choose wich i like better and dislike better is by what roster i like better. plus in MK3 the whole run button and combos i never used. i never knew how to do any combos. so another reason y MK2 is my fav 2D MK (not including MKT) cuz it didnt have the run button and the combos.

I love the MK3 roster. All the new characters are great, and the new look for the old characters (if there is one) looks nice. All of them have nice and easy combos. But, MK3 didn't have things for Stryker (Gun), Liu Kang (Pop-Up Combo), and Sonya (Pop-Up Combo) that were added in UMK3, and these new things made it more fun. MK3 is still the shit, though.

I agree with this statement. In MK1, all I had to do was rotate the D-pad, then in MK3 I had to charge a button, which totally sucked.

Charging LK for the cannon ball was a balancing act, makes it less spammable.

I did not like characters like Stryker or Nightwolf at first becuase I thought the story side was weak. But its very hard for me to thing of them as wrong now since MK3 and later UMK3 were such enormous improvements gameplay-wise.

Actually, I LOVED the backgrounds and music of that game. They were amazing, memorable mentions are the Church, the Demon Soulnado, Kahn’s level, the Tower, the belltower, the graveyard, etc.

New Characters like Sindel, Motaro, Sheeva, Kabal, Nightwolf and the robots were very cool.

Classics like Sonya (who was improved a lot), Shang Tsung, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kano, Jax (improved) were great to see again.

I did miss though Rayden and Johnny Cage. Also Mileena, Jade, Baraka.

Mk3 is my favorite 3d game. I think it had many flaws like many great things.

MK3 was a little disappointing, in that they could have done so much more with the Earth invasion storyline. But, I guess it was good at the time, and what they had to work with. Quite a few of the characters, old and new looked pretty dumb or cheesy imo. But for what it was, MK3 is still cool, and Kabal and Stryker (yes, really) are two of my favourite characters in the series.

Personally, I'd like to see them try another invasion storyline. With the technology, and using 3D rather than actors, I think they could do some pretty amazing stuff. For example, rather than empty streets with papers blowing, how about streets overrun by Kahn's (or whichever villain) armies.

Cool characters, imo.

Kung Lao (probably the coolest character)
Kabal (the best MK3 newcomer)
Stryker (fits very well into the invasion plot)
Sonya (Kerri Hoskins is much hotter than MK1 Sonya)
Kano (not keen on the outfit, but I still like Kano)
Shao Kahn (best MK boss, far tougher than MK2 Kahn)

OK characters, imo.

Sheeva (I didn't think she was so bad)
Sub Zero (didn't like the MK3 makeover)
Jax (got a bit stale here, plus the purple tights!)
Sektor (don't like the cyborgs, but I'm good with him)
Shang Tsung (looks stupid, but hey, it's Shang)
Nightwolf (inferior replacement to Johnny Cage)

Crap characters, imo.

Liu Kang (got stale, plus the old actor was better)
Cyrax (my worst MK3 fighter)
Smoke (why bother?)
Sindel (never liked her all through MK3/MKT)
Motaro (got nothing on Goro and Kintaro)
