I'm asking cause in CANON storyline, Sub-Zero spared Sareena's life....but why?

and then Sareena saves Sub-Zero from Quan-Chi (or helps him out against him). Judging from the music in the background when they're talking afterwards kind of leads me to assume there was some emotion involved.

What do you think?

maybe they were secretly in love with each other but couldn't get married because sub's clan wouldn't allow it. or it's probably because sareena was pretending to be in love with sub-zero, then when she got close enough to him she would backstab the shit out him. (sub would kick sareena's demon ass back to hell).

I think it is very possible. I never played the PS1 version of MKM:SZ , so I never heard the dialog to get the full emtion of the dailog that they shared together. I did play /rent the N64 version a bit, and I would think so. They way the looked at once another sort of gave it away, especially when she died Sub and Sareena seemed to have a special monment together. Just a thought.

It's possible but I don't think they were. If they were then they fell inlove very quickly and Sub-Zero forgot about her being killed very quickly also.

I think Sub-Zero just spared her cause maybe he liked her(wanted a piece of ass) or maybe thought she went easy on him in the fight. Now the reason why she helped him was clear, he spared her life and most warriors do have some kind of code and realize a debt when they see one. Plus she could have liked him for sparing her life and probably also didn't want to be controlled anymore by Shinnok and Quan Chi and knew Sub-Zero could be the one to do it.

In an earlier FMV She reports to Quan Chi that a mortal has escaped from the prison of souls area and is heading towards the Sea of immortality. Quan Chi orders her to dispatch the Keepers ( 3 Robotic creatures and a dinosaur) to intercept Subzero. Sareena hesitates and says,"But he's just a mortal." Quan Chi warns her not to question him and, more importantly, do not fail him. To me it seems she must have a sense of morals on what's right and wrong. I don't know why Subzero spared her life because He was described as a heartless murderer. And while Subzero was defeating Quan Chi, She came in at the last moment and delivered the knockout blow to the sorcerer. I guess she wanted to repay him for sparing her. There did seem to be some chemistry going on while they were talking.

Perhaps Sub Zero found her attractive, or saw honor or something of a true warrior, or whatever and decided to spare her. But in their conversation, all he could talk about was the amulet, so it's clear that all that was on Sub Zero's mind was his mission, he was a dedicated Lin Kuei, and perhaps IF he did develop a feeling for Sareena, he probably tried to avoid the thought, but subliminally, he DID like her, probably the reason he spared her.

These are all very good points that everyone has made. I would like to add that I don't think either Sub-Zero or Sareena are capable of "love" - especially Sub-Zero, he's too cold-blooded! LMAO!!!!1111

I got the feeling they might have liked each other too. I have the N64 version, but it does give they impression that there was something going on there. Sareena dies in Sub-Zero's arms and he gets unusually upset and angry about it considering he'd only just met her.
As for why he didn't kill her, maybe he was impressed by her fighting, or maybe he started to like at first sight. Or maybe Sub-Zero doesn't like killing women. It never says he killed Kia or Jataaka, they're just defeated and disappear. Even though Sub-Zer was a heartless mercenary, he probably did have some sense of honor and princible.

And Fujin exploded into a pool of blood at the end of the Wind stage. I don't equate what happened to a character after you defeated them with death.
And for the sake of arguement, he didn't even really kill them, he just beat them up. Not his fault they disintergrated afterward.

Sub-Zero isn't completely Cold-hearted or evil. This is obvious based on him sparing Sareena, and his love for his younger brother. Sub-Zero is most like the main character in the movie the Transporter. He is a man who seems like a cold hearted-killer, but winds up taking down a whole crime syndicate for a girl. Now I can't see Sub-Zero doing that for a girl, but for his brother? Sure.

Yeah, I think his younger brother was probably the only person he cared about (this is evident through Sub's MK4 storyline, which says that his older brother passed a secret down to him that is key to stopping Shinnok. I don't think Sub-Zero would've said anything like that to his younger brother unless he knew it would help him survive just in case Shinnok ever reappeared).

Still, I can't help but think Sub-Zero and Sareena had this mutual attraction to eachother (though Sareena says she helped Sub-Zero because he was her only hope out of the Netherealm).

I mean, the way they make eye contact, and the romantic music in the background. Actually, now that I think about it, the acting in that cinematic scene is like a soap opera. LMAO

Sareena:"Sub-Zero, I am not carrying your child, it is Scorpion's!"

Sub-Zero:"What are you talking about you crazy woman, we never slept together!"

I only played the N64 version, so I haven't seen the FMV, but I don't think that they had any kind of attraction. Maybe Sub-Zero spared Sareena because he didn't have to kill her; when she just fell to the floor, whether or not the fatality was done, he still got the key to get to Quan Chi. As for Sareena helping him against Quan Chi, I think she did it for one reason only; to gain his favor and to get a free ticket out of the Netherealm.
