What was it like the first time you ever played MK? When was it? What happened? What were your first impressions? etc etc, if you can remember that far back...
The first time I ever played Mortal Kombat was about a week after the original arcade game came out. I was about eight or nine at the time, and I was in a local arcade where they'd just got a bunch of new games, including MK. I figured "Hey, new game, might as well check it out" so off I went. For some reason (probably because of the 'amazing' graphics) it cost a dollar for one Kredit. A whole friggin dollar! I mean, there were still games there which cost 25 cents, so I thought to myself "This had better be good". So, in went my precious dollar in quarters, and up popped the select screen. I didn't have the faintest idea who any of the characters were, so I spent some time looking around. Ninja guys, one eyed dude, fellow with a funky hat... I finally settled on 'that blonde girl' (Sonya), since I found that I usually played well with female fighters in other fighting games.
My first ever match was against Scorpion (or, as I saw it, some yellow ninja guy) in the Arena level. i remember the announcer sounded quite intimidating when he said "Round 1, Fight!" Now, I'd like to say that my first ever battle was a glorious triumph of man over machine, but there were a few factors that quickly became apparent 1. I had no clue how to do any moves, in fact, I wasn't even sure there WERE moves 2. that yellow ninja guy was NOT going to take it easy on poor old Sonya and 3. At my young age, I had not yet mastered the fine arts of gaming i.e. I sucked terribly. Sonya threw some kicks and punches, landing a couple, but Scorpion quickly overpowered her. I wasn't really much of a help, she'd of probably faired better if I had of just let go of the joystick and left at that point, but what're you going to do?
Round Two was a bit better, Sonya actually managed to beat Scorpion by a hair. Woohoo! I remember seeing blood every so often, interesting, but I was more worried about beating that friggin ninja than appreciating the revolutionary graphic system. Anyways, Round Three was horrible. All of a sudden, Scorpion chucked some sort of spear thing right out of his hands and proceeded to skewer Sonya, dragging her in and shaving off oh-so much life with a single uppercut. I mean, WTF? How fair was that? There I was, honorably fighting him with my bare hands, and he had to go and whip out a weapon. Granted, had I known any of Sonya's moves, I would've been using them, too, but I didn't so I was ticked. Anyways, to make a long story short, Scorp beat down on me hard and suddenly the announcer shouted "Finish Her!!!" Sonya reeled... darkness fell... and off came Scorpions mask, revealing a grinning skull! A huge jet of flames, screaming, and before my eyes my precious Sonya was reduced to nothing more than a pile of charred bones.
Now, I'd like to say that at that point I rubbed my eyes, opened my mouth and exclaimed "Holy crap, that was the coolest thing I ever saw!!!" I'd like to say I fell in love with Mortal Kombat, and vowed to return every day until I'd mastered every point of it. I'd love to say that at that point, I realized that I'd be into the series for more than a decade and more. Heck, I'd probably settle for saying that I was shocked and appaled by that brutal display and that I felt it would corrupt young minds, y'know, something MOVING, but in truth it was none of those things. Actually, my only thought at that point was "Christ, I payed a dollar for THIS?!?" I mean, I could've played PacMan for like fifteen minutes for that price, and here I was, beaten after less than two. I at least wanted to revenge myself on Scorpion, maybe get to the second fight AT LEAST, y'know, get my money's worth. I plopped in yet another dollar in quarters- and cried in dismay as the friggin machine promptly ate them. Despite frantic jabbing of the Coin Return button and a barrage of kicks to the cabinet front, there was nothing I could do. I'd just blown two dollars on the friggin game, and all I got out of it was a minute of assbeating administered by Scorpion. I left at that point, vowing never again to play that god awful game!!!
It wasn't until a few weeks later that Mortal Kombat started getting big and kids started talking about it. At first I didn't get what the big fuss was about, when I heard my friends talking about it I was like "Oh yeah, the one that ate my two dollars". But I decided to give it a chance, and it ended up growing on my like wildfire. Or Scorpion fire? Anyways, I kept good on my vow though, I never again played that MK game at the arcade, but I rented it for the home systems and watched friends play. Still, it wasn't until MK2 came out that I REALLY became a fan... but perhaps more on that later?

I was in a local video rental place and I was renting a Godzilla game for NES. The guy asked behind the counter was telling my mom about this violent new video game that came out for Super Nintendo and Sega that was getting sensors all angry cause it had blood and guts. So I rented a Genesis and MK1 and played it for a while, thought it was cool. Then, when MK2 came out, I got it for SNES and played it endlessly.

The first time I played MK was in a local arcade in Turkey in 1992. It was configured to 3 button layout and no fatalities.
But later on they've changed the arcade board to bigger arcade cabinet with 5 buttons and it was not censored. That's when i got a taste for blood and violence in video games and still loving it since then.
my first time was christmas the year it came out when my parents got me a sega genesis. I gues i was 5 or 6 years old anyway mk1 came with the genesis so it was the first game i ever had. i played it and thought it was cool then one day my cousin came over to my house and said he knew the blood code and i was like sweet. so he typed it in abacabb i remember my first punch it was great the blood shooting out of scorpions face "i was sub 0" and then i learned the fatalities and they were cool and i remember liu kangs fatality when he did the cart wheel and upper cuuted you that was ok i thought until i did it on the pit it was so awsome.

First time I played MK was at an arcade. I missed the entire MK1 hype. Anyway back to mk. I was watching my friend play some dull racing game when I heard screaming comming from the back of the arcade. I went to investigate and I saw two characters fighting. A yellow ninja and a purple female one. I watched the demo intently as they did various moves. It seemed like an interesting game so I poped in a couble quaters and played away. Soon as mk2 was releaced on home systems i got it and played it 24/7.

The first time I played MK was when I was like 5. My older brother (13 at the time) had the first one for SNES. He would always want to play me because he new moves and it made him look kooler woopin me he thought. Only until finally he taught me the simple setup of it and it made it a real match. I would beat him on and off with Scorpion (my character of choice to this day) and he taught me the moves and some fatalitys.I thought it was so awesome kause it was the only game i was kinda good at and because,I mean, violence is always kool right? The next Christmas we got MKII and MKIII.I loved them so much it was awesome. Couple Christmas's after that I got a N64.I bought both MK Trilogy and MK4 shortly after.I liked them but would probably of liked MKSP just because it was a mk game.Couple years later PS2's kame out.By then I was a really devoted gamer and was very smart for my age (still am).I heard that Microsoft and Nintendo were making next-gen consoles.I decided to get a PS2, but they were 300 friggin dollars. I sold all my snes stuff and most of my n64 games (except for the mk ones) for money.I bought a PS2 and it was awesome. Then at a family gathering thing i found out I had a cousin who was like a classic gaming guru (michael thomason www.gooddealgames.com). I then got a computer and found out there was a new mk game coming out. Then i found this site and realized theres all kinds of people with devoted lives to mk.I became really knowledgable of the mk series and loved it more then ever.I bought MK:DA the day it came out.I got interested in classic gaming thru my kool cousin and am kollecting all sorts of vintage gaming stuff now (even though I'm only 12)
including all the mk games for most of the systems released.Thats my life MK story if youre still awake.

The first time I ever played MK I was about 11 or 12 years old and a HUGE Street Fighter II fan. I was visiting Florida with my family and they went to a local shopping mall. Well, in that day most malls if not all of them had arcades. I went off on my own to the arcade as I hated shopping with my parents. I was browsing for SF2 and stumbled by MK1 but passed it without much though ... at first. I played SF2 for a bit then I heard sounds coming from the MK1 direction, someone was playing - the sounds blew me away, better and more realistic than SF2 so I went to investigate after my game ended. I was blown away by the violence and realism. I played it (using Sonya as well if I recall) and got the shit kicked out of me on the second guy. I used cheap SF2 tactics to beat the first guy (jump kicks and eventually sweeps when I realized how to do them by accident). Anyhow, to make a long story short when I finally returned home a few days later MK1 was the BIGGEST thing ever. Every magazine and arcade was packed full of it. I got addicted. However, for me the real love began with MK2. That is another story for another time.

Wow, honestly, I can't really remember when I first played an MK game, because it was so long ago. It must have been like about 8-10 years ago and I'm only 15 years old right now!!
I really grew up on MK even though I did play some of the other fighting games such as Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct, and Tekken 3. I remember playing the MK1 arcade when visiting Canada a few years ago. It was very addictive and I also played the MK2 arcade in Florida. Also, in Atlantic City, I would play MK4 and UMK3. So I've been a fan for such a long time and I guess that's why it's my favorite fighting series.

the first time I played mk was back in 1994 in a b-day party, at the time I didn't care about videogames, but that day changed my life, I played mk1 for master system all day long with my friends. It was awesome, but I will probably forget that day...someday

MK2 was the first one I played. I saw it in a magazine and thought it looked cool, so I rented it. I played as Mileena cause she had the coolest moves and fatalities. When MK3 came out, I played it with other people and thought it was real fun. Long story short, I've become a MK fan.
I played it for the first time in the first Nintendo. God it sucked, no fatalities, no good graphics or colors or good sounds. I didnt know english, the game just sucked....but for somereason. I liked it.
I just loved playing it. Always with Sonya and Cage. After I grew older, I went to the arcades with my couses, and I just coudlent beleive that the most popular game there was Mk!!!! It was SO COOL! The fatalities, sound, graphics, everything! It was love at first site.
Then, some years later, the game was out replaced by anotherone!!! AHHHHH! I was so mad! And then found out it was MkII. I was SHOCKED! How can a game improve so much!!??!! The only thing I hated was the fact of Sonya being held capture.
The first Mk I ever had to play in PC was Mk3. And I beleive since it was the one I most played, having combos and Sonya looking awsome. It was my fave out of those 3, and still is. Mk4 shocked me as well, Trologuy more, and finally, MKDA is my fave game! and fave Mk game.

First time I played it was in the Arcade against some kid who had obviously played it like 50 times before (he knew all the moves off by heart). There was a lot of hype so I decided to check it out for myself. I was Scorpion and got my ass whooped by Johnny Cage.
My love for Mortal Kombat grew when I got a loan of the game for my Megadrive. Then Mortal Kombat 2 came and my life was changed forever.

i remember going to the arcade everyday it was open to play it, probably about 1-2 hours, and i played it on both snes and genesis, i started at MK 1 and still am addicted to the series in general. the old days just cant be replicated though. all the excitement cause it was something new and violent for its time.
we would bet on the fights and my life revolved around MK, it never got old.
too many reasons why its a classic. the new ones that come out though...i hope they are genre breaking titles too and not just a cartoony 3d fighter clone, mk5 was alright part of the reason its not seen as good as the classics is its not shocking or innovative really, its still good though.
i just hope mk6 and beyond really bring some good fatals/violence and secrets to the plate with a revolutionary engine so it can kind of reclaim its status, i would like to see it at the arcade too it just feels like MK is dying :( my all-time favorite series.

I remember i wasnt allowed to play Mortal Kombat for a long time. I really wanted to play it because i would always hear kids at school talking about it. My parents also heard about it and thought it was too violent for my age, and i'll admit i think they did the right thing. But i do remember the first time i played. I think i was about 7. We were at a restaurant and i noticed MK right by the doorway. While we were waiting for dinner, i asked them for some quarters to play pinball. But of course and spent them on MK. I was sub-zero i think, and i got stomped by liu kang. When i got back to the table, they noticed how short of a "pinball" game it was. Yep, when we got home i felt bad and told them i played mortal kombat. No big deal. Anyways, by the time MK3 came out for snes, they thought i was old enough to play, and i used to rent MK 1,2, and 3 all the time from the video store (5 SNES games for 5 nights for $5.00). The first MK game i ever actually owned was MK:DA, but since i've hit the used game stores (and ebay) to buy MK 1,2, and 3 for snes.

I WAS OVER MY FRIENDS HOUSE AND HE HAD A SEGA GENESIS AND MK 1 AND 2. I HAD NEVER PLAYED ANY VIDEO GAME SYSTEM EXCEPT NES AT THAT POINT. (SAD I KNOW)
AND HE PUT IN MK 2 AND I GOT HOOKED ON IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS INCREDIBLY HARD THEN AND I STILL DO! (DAMN MILLENA ALWAYS COUNTERS MY MOVES, LOL) THEN HE PUT IN MK 1 AND ALMOST BEAT IT ON MY FIRST TRY AND WAS HOOKED ON THAT ONE ALSO. (GORO WAS MUCH HARDER IN MK 4 BUT FOR SOME REASON NOT AS COOL.) HE NEVER GO MK 3 BUT ONE OF MY OTHER FRIENDS HAD THAT AND WE PLAYED IT A LOT. I REALLY DONT SEE WHY PEOPLE SEEM TO HATE MK 3, I ADMIT IT WASNT THE BEST MK IN THE WORLD (TRILOGY) BUT IT WAS STILL VERY FUN. I HAVE PLAYED EVERY MK SINCE AND THINK STREET FIGHTER SUCKS COMPARED TO THE ALMIGHTY MK!

Back when MK was so popular, I actually stayed away from it, and kinda preached against the violence. Well, in time I decided to check it out. I decided to go watch some of my friends play, and showed up just in time to see my friend deliver an uppercut that sent his opponent into the Pit. I was blown away, and immediately stopped preaching against it, and I was hooked. I watched some more, and had the pleasure of seeing Sub-Zero's fatality for the first time. Well, when my friend was finally beaten, I popped in the 2 quarters to play. I chose Scorpion, only to have my ass promptly handed to me by Sonya. In the end, I got toasted with her fatality, but was still happy to be able to play once. The next day, I had the pleasure of seeing MK2. The first thing I saw was the Pit II stage kill. Wow. I couldn't find words to describe the thoughts in my head after seeing this! That is what solidified my status as a MK fan.

The first time I played MK was when I was 11. I was really bored and decided to go up to the video rental store to get a video, but decided to get a game instead. So I decided on MK2. I'd heard about MK but didn't really know what it was. *lol* So I took it home (It was the crappy Master System version which meant it had less characters in it.)
I first chose Kitana and kept getting my ass kicked. I got fed up and left it...I had no idea how to play it!
But then I came back about an hour later, became way better and actually started to like MK...And I've loved it ever since!

My first time playing Mk, was when the hype started, I was playing SFII which was strategically placed about 1 arcade cabinet away from MK, I saw a bunch of people crowding there and I went to check it out. The guy who was playing was Sub Zero and did only his freeze, and he didn't know what he was doing, he made it to the mirror match, and the other Subby whooped his ass, and did the infamous head rip, I thought the guy was gonna have a heart attack, he jumped and screamed, while me and 6 others where standing there eyes wide open and one guy said "whoa."
Ever since then I went to the arcade and mastered all the characters until the console versions came out.
