How did you develop your skills? Did you play your friends or use Konquest or what?

The only thing that will truely make you better is playing poeple who are better than you. You can screw around in practice mode, run the ai paterns, but nothing makes a person better than getting their ass kicked by another human being. Then asking your self - or the other person for that matter - why did I get my ass kicked? Then you study the game, ponder, and fix the issues.
There is no substitute for simply playing the hell out of the game. When T4 first came out i was playing at least 5-7 hours a day, four days a week. In my eyes, that was nothing. Considering Korean peeps where playing it 10 hours a day O_o. The old adage, practice, practice, practice. Keep an open mind, IE, don't be a fan boy - heh, look who's talking
- and get your ass kicked.

Pretty much what this guy said above. I learned most of my skills from Konquest and from playing other MKDA players. I learned alot from them and the Konquest mode. I suggest everyone do the same, just play other human oppenents that are far better than you. It's worth it.
If only there were more MKDA players around where I lived, GOOD players that actually know how to play excellently. Oh well...
Basically play A LOT. The more you practice, the better you get. Human opponents aren't necassary all the time. Playing against the computer will help you get comfortable with the game. Basically the computer helps your timing. Helps blocking, side stepping, tech rolling, everything. It's like basketball. The more you play by yourself, the greater you'll get at offense. But playing against other people helps with your defense. Always try to balance the two. Also the more you play, the more stuff you can memorize which always helps.
Bottom line: Regardless if you have anyone to play against or not, the more you play, the better you get. It's simple really. Why is Korea considered the best in Tekken, they play more than everybody. The same pretty much applies to everything in life.

It's not just time I think.
You also have to have it "in" you. If you don't, too bad
. Everyone has different talents for different games, some have no talents at all and some can play them all.
But since you ask this question and like to play DA, I assume that you have an amount of talent to start with.
Here are my personal "MK player wisdoms":
* Experiment. Try to play creatively. If you use the same strategies or tactics too much, you'll be beaten (unless you face dimwitted opponents).
* Empathise. Try to figure out what your opponent is thinking or planning. If you just rush into the battle - even though you may know all moves - you may very well lose if you don't know what your opponent's tactics are.
* Remain calm. Don't become angry because something isn't working. Most likely it will work someday, but remember that everyone has different learning curves and that there are always bigger fish.
* Be thorough. Every now and then I read about people who only specialise in two or three fighters. That is very unwise, because if you know all moves or if you are at least familiar with the basics of each warrior it can make things easier for you to plan your strategy or try to guess what your opponent is going to do.
* Don't take anything for real until you've tested it yourself. Needless to say, lots of BS floats out there and many people are gullible. On the reverse side, keep an open mind. Don't mistrust people because what they say sounds strange or weird.
* Don't give up! ;)
Peace,

I don't do much, really. I have almost no competition, so it's just me and the computer. It's best to play on the highest difficulty to get the basics down tight, then try finding competition and work from there.

Well, just try to stay away from playing the computer. Firstly, the computer sucks at punishing. So playing the computer will give you a false illusion that certain unsafe moves are safe. Secondly, the computer cheats. I've seen the compter trick slide all the way from escrima straight into TSD and reverse. Now we all know thats impossible since before reachin TSD from escrima you must go to broadswords. The AIs reversal time is also flawless, which is not the case with any player. Lastly, the computer is just plain dumb. Random branchs..unsafe projectiles..just stay away from the computer.
Now you ask me how did we get better? I can't speak for everyone, but I definately got better two ways..
1. this site is the MKDA law book. By searching through the threads on this board you will learn lots of stuff about pretty much every character. Try not to give into the flame hype and look into the meat and potatoes of posts.
2. Get your friends involved. School friends, bros, sisters or even girlfriends. Teach them things that you learned from this board and by yourself. Tell them about tiers, universal tracking, etc. Then let them figure out new stuff on their own as well. It's always good to know a player who doesn't play MK but is into games like tekken and soul calibur, for if their versatile(HAHAHAHAHA) they'll give DA a chance and may become your sparring partner. This is how me and my friend spazz became good.
And that's pretty much all the advice I can give you. Everyone in here gave good advice...peace.
