It was.
Same shit happened here that happened with SFIIHDR, to my understanding: Backbone made promises they couldn`t deliver.
Last I heard, it was still failing submission, still full of problems, even after scrapping the entirety of the HD features.
Used to be I was salivating over everything I heard about this game. Now I barely even think about it.

....I don't get it, because Super Street Fighter II HD Remix is made. How could SFIIHDR fail when Super became possible?

Not necessarily, some remakes have been good. Resident Evil immediately springs to mind.

But most suck ass. And I mean in general. Any sort of remaking that goes on has massive potential for suckage. Thiw would have been no exception.
Thank god it was kancelled. I get to play the old arcade games for the first time and not some remake.

On this I agree. Some things you just can't replace....such as digitized actors. You can't necessarily polish and upgrade a photograph of someone's face. And for that matter I wouldn't want a different actor replacing my beloved actors of the classics. It would be a basterdization and insult to fans if anything. Just give me the good ol' classics. Nostalgia doesn't always have to have an HD ribbon tied around it.

Indeed. Some remakes have been good like King Kong, Dawn of the Dead and, hopefully that new Godzilla remake next year. Sorry I'm not too familiar with game remakes.
If those pictures are indeed real proof of that HD remake that was cancelled, this thread deserves some sweet DP!
I'm honestly not against a HD MK Remake. I mean, I assume they would be working hard to make such nostalgic classics be the best they can be, so, if they are indeed good, I'm not opposed to some more MK in my life.
That being said, I absolutely LOVE the classics and nothing can beat them (well, MK9, MKDA, and MKvsDC kind of did), so, I'm happy we are finally getting an Arcade Collection of those too.
Hopefully this "HD MK Remake" will one day come to be and it will look amazing.
That robot looks pretty ugly, though....huge head.

As much as i would love this to be true, i think these are from the scrapped HD version..
I remember Seeing a guy dressed as Kung Lao which was later taken down because it was cancled... it would have been nice to have a re-make with extra characters

Ninjas were the best thing that ever happened to MK

you know, when i see people replace the letter c with a k, just because they're such unbelievably hardcore mortal kombat fans, it really makes me cringe.

SO exactly what is happening in the second photo? Is Sindel's weave flying off or did someone already snatch it?

The remake was cancelled. MKO even had a news article about it, and it was removed. The HD MK is no longer being made.
With that being said, I'm moving the thread and re-titling it, as the photos are not proof that it IS being made, just that it WAS being made.

What was planned for SSFIIHDR was something very different from what we actually got. You can find early sprites of Ryu out there; the game was supposed to basically look like a painting in motion and literally be one of the most visually impressive 2D fighters ever made. Instead, it wound up looking like a newgrounds flash animation.
To be fair, there were also other factors; at the time online games for PSN had a strict file size limit, and the problems they had developing SFIIHD aside, it would have been way too big.
John Montenegro posts some pre-production mock-up shots of what almost was, and will never be.
Oh god, it burns me so much that this failed.
