Anybody still interested in playing the game? There is always so little talk about gameplay. I personally believe its still one of the best fighters out there for competition play, but I also understand that hardcore UMK3 players are more of an underground group. But if any are around that still like to discuss the game, and like to go out and kick butt in it too then go ahead and respond.

sure. umk3 is one of my top favs..(after mkt) it was all about the combos. i havent played it for about a month or so. my fav characters to use were noob, scorpion, cyber smoke, kung lao, and sub-zero.
everyone always called scorpion cheap, but imo, noob was the cheapest. easy infinites. df+lp-hp-hp-lp-hk-d,u-repeat. theres no escaping it.

Yeah, Noob was pretty cheap in MKT for PSX. Mainly because of the infinites and his speed. But he's not alone. Kung Lao has an easy corner infinite in UMK3 and MKT, just hat spin jump kick, and you can start it far away from the corner and use spin, jump kick, whiffed dash kick, spin, repeat until you get close to the corner.
Also, Sindel has an infinite but the timing and repetition is too annoying to really be useful.
Its tough to pick favorites in the game personally, but I'd have to say I favor Ermac and H. Smoke because they are the stronger of the Ninjas. Robo Smoke is also a good damage bringer, but I haven't found any combos for him as damaging as the ones for Ermac and H. Smoke. After that I'd have to say Nightwolf just because he is totally aggressive and probably the fastest killer in the game.

yea, nightwolf was cool. rain has a few infinites as well. i think almost every character had one in one way or another.lol. and what i liked best about the game is that every character has something thats useful. theres not one character that just plain sucks.

I wouldnt say every character has an infinite of some kind unless you're talking about MKT for N64. For some characters, the combos are totally limited, like Unmasked Sub Zero whose comboing ability is pretty weak. Plus with infinites for characters like Sindel, anti-air HP, cancel to flight, hp, cancel to flight repeat in the corner, the timing is so hard its not something to really depend on in gameplay.
Also, I totally agree with the idea that every character is good. They are almost all good for something. The weakest character, IMO, is Shang Tsung because the morphs take too long and the morphing back to Shang is too uncontrollable. That is coupled with a bad uppercut, a slow and low roundhouse, plus bad autocombos. The only plus is that his ground eruption move has very few limitations and can be used for a nonrepetative 100% damage combo.
