Hmmmm sounds like the disc maybe damaged, have you tried having a look at it for scratches?? How many CD drives do you have?? if you've got 2, try the other.

do not insert the cd, run *.reg file, and then run the *.exe. If it runs ok, insert the cd and do everything again with your mk4 cd in the cd-rom this time.

My son, who is 5, is totally hooked on Mortal Kombat. I bought the Kollector's edition of deception and he played MK1. Now he wants all of the MK games.

Not sure if I should just get a PS1 and get all the MK games that way or just get the PC versions.

What do you suggest? If I get a PS1 am I able to get all the MK games or most of them?

if you have a powerfull pc, the best choice is to buy the games and emulate them on your pc. There are just great PSX emulators like ePSXe, its freeware and has 99% compatibility. You'll be able to play all mk games for psx with this emu, i have only problems with MK3, but you can always play it on MAME or PC. The only MK games that are not come out for PSX are MK1 and UMK3, but they are fully emulated on MAME. MK Advance is released only for Gameboy Advance but I'm sure your son will dont want to play it, this game sux and its a shame for MK Universe. As for the pc games mk1 and mk2 are runing only in DOS mode, otherwise there are some problems with sounds, you can get MK1&MK2 compilation but i have some problems with them too, MK3 has both win and dos versions, while DOS version rox, WIN is the same as PSX version. There are DOS and WIN versions for MK Trilogy also, but i like more the PSX version. For MK4, there are almost no difference between psx and pc versions, while the PC version have only one patch that fixes some movie bugs and adds 640x480 rezolution, PSX version, if you emulate it with ePSXe, can be played on a higher rezolution, and looks really great. MK Gold is released only for Sega Dreamcast, this game is just like MK4 but with 6 new characters (who actually are old from previous mk games) and some new backgrounds. Some people like it more even from MK4 arcade, but overall this game is nothing special. At last, there is MK Tournament Edition, this is something like MK Gold but done with MK Deadly Alliance. Some new characters, few new backgrounds and Weapon Fatalities. This game is released only for Gameboy Advance so do not expect much from her too

Don't forget that for MK4 for PC you can edit skins, and download updated character models from MKG to get higher poly counts. All that at high resolution can be interesting to look at. Unfortunately they didn;t change the gameplay.

you are right dreemernj! there was mk4strip program that allows you to correct the graphics, edit sounds and skins like you sayied. The gameplay for MKT and MK4 for PC versions is a little faster than PSX versions too, but overall i choose psx versions of these two games. Of course other members may prefer pc versions.

I have MK1 for xbox, the one that comes with the Kollector's edition of deception.

Now I'm on the search for the other ones.
My PC is only a Pentium 3 but will be getting a new one soon. I'll still try what you suggested on the Pentium 3.
