How did the final showdowns in MK3 and MK4 go?
Hey all, what are your theories for how the final showdown against Shao Kahn and Shinnok went down? Here's what I think happened in MK3:

(going by Scorpion vow and Cage dying story here)

While Earth's warriors are fighting Kahn's extermination squards, Stryker is killed. While Noob Saibot and Mileena are spying, Sub-Zero is fighting Reptile and Ermac, he puts up a good fight, but when Reptile turns invisible, he starts losing, but Scorpion comes to his aid and helps him out. Meanwhile Cyrax is also seen fighting along with Smoke, but Smoke is captured and Sub-Zero watches as he loses his best friend. Meanwhile Liu Kang follows Kitana, who has gone to free her mother from Shao Kahn's control. While Kung Lao challeges Shao Kahn to Mortal Kombat on the top of his palace, Lao puts up a good fight, but Shao Kahn gets the upper hand, and throws Kung Lao from the palace and he falls to his (apparent) death. Liu Kang can sense that something has happened and then sees Kung Lao falling to his death, which angers him... meanwhile Rain has attempted a failed suicide attack on Shao Kahn, but it failed and Liu and Kitana find his lifeless body on the ground. Together they press on where they find Shang Tsung with Sindel. Liu Kang fights Shang Tsung while Kitana fights Sindel. Meanwhile, Raiden appears before Shao Kahn and their showdown takes place. Liu Kang sends Shang Tsung running off while Kitana frees Sindel. Liu Kang goes to the top of the castle where he sees Raiden and Shao Kahn fighting. Raiden's about to win the fight, but Tsung strikes him from behind which ends the fight in Shao Kahn's favor, who delivers a crushing blow to Raiden. Kang knocks Tsung out, but sees Raiden on the ground, who is now dying. He gives Liu Kang, encouraging words as his eyes close. Thinking he is dead, Liu Kang stands out ready to fight. Liu and Kahn go at it while the other Earth warriors head to the battle. After a long fight, Liu Kang overcomes the odds and defeats Shao Kahn, which erupts cheers from the Earth's warriors. Johnny Cage obtains the orbs that merge both Earth and Edenia into Outworld, the others beg him to wait and see if there is another way, but he says there is none, he bids farewell to his friends and smashes the orbs. Suddenly millions of souls begin to shoot out of Shao Kahn as he screams in pain. Scorpion is pulled back into the Netherrealm though he is quite happy at having kept his vow. Johnny Cage's lifeless body falls to the ground.

So yeah, that's how I think the final showdown went. As for MK4, well I'll think of something for that later. How do you think it all went down?

For now, I'm going to work with the info that we know for sure is canon about the battle between Earthrealm and Shao Kahn, and who did what and who beat who.

Younger Sub Zero fought and defeated Cyrax. Rather than kill the cyborg, Subby reprogrammed him with the mission to go after Kahn.

Jade and Reptile fought each other. Both had been sent to get Kitana, but Jade later decided she couldn't kill her best friend. Unknown for sure who won, but I'd say most likely Jade, as Kitana got away from Reptile.

Shao Kahn defeated Kung Lao, in what was originally meant to be Kung Lao's death scene. We now know that Kung Lao managed to survive.

Shao Kahn defeated, and most likely killed Rain. As no mention has been made of Rain since, I beleive he was killed here.

Sonya and Kano fought on a skyscraper. Kano was winning and tore off a lock of her hair. This left him open for Sonya's leg grab, which she used to throw him off the roof. The dying Kano was saved by Motaro.

Kitana was the one to help Sindel regain her memory. And it's almost certain that the two must have fought, since Sindel was under Kahn's control, and is hardly likely to have stodd there listening peacefully to Kitana.

Either Kahn or one of his men (Shang Tsung being a likely candidate) defeated Scorpion, and banished him back to the Netherrealm. Scorpion had originally joined Kahn's forces, but turned against them later. If his vow to Sub Zero was canon, this is the reason why.

Smoke was defeated by someone in Kahn's forces, and ended up deactivated in an Outworld dungeon until Noob found him for MKD.

Raiden and Kahn fought, and Kahn was most likely the winner. Other MKT endings make references to these two fighting, and Raiden was probably weakened by having to go through various Kahn goons first.

Liu Kang was almost certainly the one to finally defeat Shao Kahn. The apparent death of his friend Kung Lao, and Raiden's loss giving him the extra drive to win. This is mentioned in the MKD bio for Liu Kang's Tomb, and there are medallions for his FOUR victories, (MK1, MK2, MKT, and MKG).

What he said. but i'd like to add my 2 cents about MK3

I like to believe that Kung and Liu fought Kahn together al-la shaolin monks. this is where kung meet his apparent death and liu was there to witness it. then liu defeats kahn.

I think Smoke was defeated or wounded by sektor. He defended sub instead of killing him. while sub fought cyrax, smoke took on sektor. sektor survived and retreated. cyrax was reprogramed. smoke went his own way and shut himself down for self repair. this is when he was abducted.

Raiden didn't fight kahn. He most likely did the same thing he did in DA, fight the masses while the mortals fought the individuals.

Wow! I have read a lot of good ideas and though myself about sharing my vision of MK3. This is the story I'm currently following to make a novelization of the events. I have ended all until pre-MK3 (Shang Tsung beggining Sindel's ritual), but I have done a straight line of events from the MKT storyline. I'll also following Scorpion's vow and Cage's death here. EDIT: I had changed Scorpion's story, extended over his original status in the conflict. Thanks to ProudNintendoFan to point out my error.

After the merging of both Earth and Outworld, the first to be attacked by Extermination Squads are Liu Kang & Kung Lao. They fend off the masked soldiers and, after a short battle, receive a message from Raiden to go to Nightwolf's lands.

In the main city Sonya and Jax are running from Motaro's Squad. They know about Raiden saving their souls and went to find Johnny Cage. They meet, but the powerfull centaurs force them to split again. Johnny decides to serve as decoy. Altough he believe he could make it, Motaro defeat him and throw him out the building. Sonya watch over the window as Cage's corpse is falling. Both escape the centaurs' attack, and run into the streets. In the middle they found the cop Stryker, who was hiding. He had those strange visions, and decided he would believe in those myths for once. The three decided to continue into Nightwolf's lands.

Kabal, wondering why is still alive, was found by Extermination Squad's troops. He fought, but the Centaurs slaughter him and left him for dead.

Sub-Zero was still being persecuted by the cyborgs and the squads, but he defends quite good. In the Subway he found the cyborgs and a bad new: Smoke was in his team. He fend off the attackers and made his escape. After that Raiden told him about he is a Chosen One and directed him to meet the others.

Kitana was still hunted by Reptile and Jade. She has run into Earthrealm after the Court comdemned her for Mileena's assasination, and is now searching for Liu Kang, as she knows how to save Earth.

Motaro is leading the Extermination Squads alongside Kano, Ermac and Shang Tsung. During their scouting they found Rain, who decided to join his forces rather than die.

Baraka soon joined after the uprising was cooled down. Shao Kahn, trying to take Hell's souls, accidentally free Scorpion, Mileena and the dark warrior Noob Saibot. Mileena returns to her side, and Noob Saibot joined him also, but the two are only spying for Shinnok. Mileena also can read Kitana's thoughs, so she can predict her sister's steps.
Scorpion was wandering through the death streets. He was in neither team, and was finally found by the Extermination Squads. Altough he wasn't an Earth warrior, the squads attacked him, but were obliterated by his hellspawn strenght. Ermac, who was leading the unit, step to take the action and both had a furious fight. With neither gaining the advantage, the battle would have go forever...but Shao Kahn, hearing about Ermac's difficult time, step and offered Scorpion an alliance: Since Scorpion isn't in Earth's league, he sides with Shao Kahn, who told him that while the merging of both realms exists, he could maintain his form outside the Netherrealm.

Liu Kang & Kung Lao are ambushed by Shang Tsung, but they defeated him and proceed, but Rain was following them. After a short walk they reach Nightwolf's lands, who are protected from Shao Kahn's powers. Soon enough Sonya, Jax and Stryker joins in. The last to appear was Sub-Zero. Raiden appeared before them, and announce about Kahn's plot of reviving Sindel and that the last tourny was a set-up. He also tells them that he give up his God's status, and will fight with them as a mortal. Rain observes, and he was right to return and inform about the good guys' HQ when Kitana shows. Jade had sided with her and buy time fighting and defeating Reptile, and Kitana has reached the only land not devastated by Kahn's power. Kitana recognized Rain as one of Edenian's habitants and son of one of his father's generals. Rain stop the fight and decided to turn against the Emperor. Kitana and Rain meet with the Earth Champions and told them about the orb that merge both realms. She knows that Sindel may knew where Shao Kahn hide it, and she was decided to save her mother. Liu Kang would of course help her.

Meanwhile Mileena, who has read all what Kitana is saying, informs Shao Kahn about the Chosen Ones' location. Rather than sends the squads, he give the job of killing all of them to Baraka and his Tarkatan.

It's a bit long. For now this is the beggining. Later I'll add the final confrontations and Kahn's defeat. Hope you like my little story.

^That's good. But Scorpion did not join Shao Kahn at first. First, he was neutral (like he usually is), a "wild card" if you will. But then Shao Kahn offered him a place in his army (presumably under the term of that as long as Earth and Outworld are merged Scorpion can't go back to the Netherrealm) so well... the rest is a story for another time as I imagine you'll cover it in the next one.

Kahn offered Scorpion a place in his army, which Scorpion accepted. So for a short time, he was part of the Emperor's goon squad. It's shortly after this that he turns against Kahn. You will find this info in his MKT ending, although that has Scorpion defeating Kahn which we know did not happen.

As for Raiden fighting Kahn, it isn't 100% certain, but as it is referred to in a few other MKT endings (such as Baraka's) it seems very likely that the two did fight.
^Yes, but I was going by his bio, I did not say Shao Kahn DIDN'T offer Scorpion a place in his army, but at first he was a "wild card" he declared alliegance with no one and then Shao Kahn came along and then he found about Sub-Zero and joined the good guys.

Hello again. ProudNintendoFan, thanks for your comment. About Scorpion's story, I almost forgot to expand on his "Wild Car" bit of story, but I'll edit that after this post. Well, Here I'll summarize the final confrontations in the Invasion of Outworld.

In the last post, Shao Kahn had find, thanks to Mileena's mind readings abilities, the location of Raiden's chosen warriors and send Baraka and his tarkata to battle and kill them.

Meanwhile in Nightwolf's land they are discussing about how to counter this act. Liu Kang and Kung Lao offered to help Kitana reach Sindel, and Jax, Sonya and Sub-Zero offered to defeat the Extermination Squads for good. Raiden was determined to fight Kahn to save his realm. Stryker didn't really know where he would fit, and Rain decided to scout the surrounding if any attack were visible.

Soon enough Rain see Baraka's small army coming, but before he could return he was ambushed by two Tarkatans. Rain was stopped and begin to fight.

The rest of Baraka's men irrumped the meeting and a fight ensued. Altough the warriors of Earth didn't have problem taking care of the Tarkatan, their were more and, if they could find them, Shao Kahn was next to send a more expertised Extermination Squad to back up Baraka. Nightwolf, seeing as it was a matter of time, offered to fend off the attackers, giving Raiden and the veteran fighters a chance of escape. Stryker decided finally to help Nightwolf. He though if he die, he would rather die fighting for something worthy. So both warriors step forth and the others move to a safe place.Altough Baraka tried to follow the escapees, Nightwolf stop his move and challenged him to kombat.

In their escape Kitana and Liu Kang found Rain, who had been able to free himself from the Tarkatans. Liu Kang attacked him thinking he informed Kahn. Rain tried to explain, and Kitana decides to let him talk. Altough he explained himself, Kitana had still doubts because he was once Kahn's servant. Rain, pissed about this, decided to show them who his loyalty lies and left both to challenge Kahn alone. Altough Kitana tried to stop him, he didnt' hear her.

Nightwolf and Stryker were succesfull in their battle. Many Tarkatans fell in battle, and Nightwolf overthrow Baraka's unfocused rage with skill. Baraka, rather than continue this fight, retreats to Kahn's castle. Altough victorious, both warriors were exhausted from battle and heavily wounded, so they decided to left all in the realm Earthrealm Warrior's hands.

The warriors meet again outside the city overrun by Kahn, and found that the Extermination Squad had been reunited. Jax, Sonya and Sub-Zero would fight the army, giving Raiden, Kitana, Liu Kang and Kung Lao an opportunity to enter Kahn's castle.

Sub-Zero, Jax and Sonya step in front of the squads and spread a fierce battle. In the middle of the confusion Sub-Zero is dragged by the cyborgs. The three sprung a surprise attack on the cold warrior, but Sub-Zero fend off the cyborgs the best he could, and at the same time trying to restore Smoke's human soul. In the middle of their fight, Smoke began to malfunction due to his returning memory, and Sektor trying to blast Sub-Zero with a missile finally triggered his memories. Smoke attacks his former ally and Sub-Zero takes on Cyrax, defeating him and reprogramming him to "defeat Shao Kahn". Unfortunately, he didnt' find Smoke or Sektor.

Meanwhile Jax and Sonya were cracking the masked soldiers' heads in battle, when Sonya spot Kano entering the Bank. She went after him, and Jax with the returning Sub-Zero continue defeating their enemies. Kano attracks Sonya to the Rooftop where its epic battle begin.

After owning almost all the masked Soldier, the big guns of the Squads shows out: The Centaurians leaded by Motaro. Jax takes on Motaro himself why Sub-Zero does his best to defeat the most of the others.
Jax and Motaro had a brutal encounter, but at some point Jax lose track of him and find himself surrounded by centaurs. Meanwhile Kano got the upper hand fighting Sonya, but he understimated her persistency and found himself falling from the roof. Motaro see him fall, and seeing that the only two mortals were easily outnumbered by their troops, decided to return and inform Kahn of his inminent win, carrying Kano with him.

Baraka, who had returned, got chastises after his failure in capturing the Earthrealm warriors. He was left to live for his skills, but he was aware that after the invasion was complete he would be likely killed.

Inside the castle, Liu Kang and Kitana splits ways. Liu Kang went to defeat Shao Kahn and Kitana to find her mother. After defeating some guards he found her mother secured in the Belltower, and Sheeva as her protector. Both engaged in combat, but Kitana was able to stop the fight telling Sheeva about the Shokan's enslavement. Sheeva was suspicious of Kahn's treason when he gave Motaro the leadership of the army, but now she has no doubts. She lets Kitana proceed, and went to enact revenge on both Kahn and Motaro. Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Raiden were stopped by Shang Tsung and Noob Saibot. Both shaolins decided to fight the sorcerer and Raiden evades them and advances to his fight with Shao Kahn.

Sub-Zero and Jax were almost worn out, and even with Sonya's return they were easily outnumbered. When the hope seems lost a fighter enters the battle: Kabal. After almost died, he was able to save himself and have come to help the others survivors. He also had Raiden's visions, and finally decided he would change his live for good. Kabal fight savagely, fueled by the wounds still burning from his defeat at the Squads hands, and the four warrior were also received an unexpected help: Johnny Cage. He was returned, but he wasnt still sure of the reason.

Kitana fought Sindel meanwhile trying to recover herself. At one moment Sindel stop the fight, as she was confused as to who believe. Then Mileena appeared ready to take revenge on her death. Kitana tried to defeat her sister, but Mileena could read every movement of her sister and had the upper advantage in the battle. But before she could give a fatal hit, Sindel restored her memories and help her daughter defeat Mileena, who escape swearing that Kitana will die. Sindel and Kitana were finally reunited, and after a brief emotive scene (?) Sindel tells her that Earthrealm bonding orb was hidden in Shang Tsung's old island. Kitana and Sindel exit the Belltower to try and find the Earthrealm warriors.

Liu Kang and Shang Tsung were in his 3rd battle, and Tsung was eager to take revenge on his past failures. Noob Saibot fought Kung Lao, but eventually Noob retreats. Shinnok had commanded him to side with the winning team, and Shao Kahn was apparently running out of soldiers.

Motaro had returned to the news to Shao Kahn, who encourage him to return and finish the job personally. He also healed Kano and ordered Motaro to imprison him for his failure. As Motaro was throwing him in the dungeons, Sheeva ambushed him and killed him. Kano made an offer to help kill Shao Kahn to Sheeva, and both headed towards Kahn's throne room. Altough Kano went to serve as a distraction, he backstab Sheeva telling Shao Kahn about her and he kills the Shokan with a sword. Kano is ascended to General and ordered to return to Outworld and bring the remaining armies to finally took the realm.

The five Earthrealm warriors fought off the remaining Centaurs with Kitana and Sindel's help. They tell them about the orb, and the group went to find a way to go to Tsung's island. But Kitana had other things in mind, as Sindel told her about Edenia's orb being found in Outworld's wasteland. So both queen and princess enters Outworld and headed towards the place.

Liu Kang and Kung Lao overthrow Shang's new powers and knocked him into one of Motaro's statues in the Balcony, but didn't kill him. Both continue their way, guided by Raiden's track of defeated soldiers and Tarkatans.

Raiden had reached Shao Kahn's throne, and after a verbal assault both engaged in Mortal Kombat. Altough still powerfull, Raiden was surpassed by Shao Kahn's force, enhanced by the souls he captured.

The warriors found a portal to Goro's Lair, provided by Noob Saibot in secret (It could be him as Classic Sub-Zero or (if you don't like the idea) he didn't showing helping them). The group jumped through. In Tsung island Shao Kahn, knowing Kitana told the Earth warriors about the orb (thanks to Mileena), had set a defend team leaded by Ermac and Scorpion. Jax, Sonya and Kabal fend off the soldiers and Sub-Zero take on Ermac and Scorpion. Johnny was on his way to find the orb. Scorpion, during the fight, find out he was younger Sub-Zero and, after Ermac could strike him down, attacked him and teleported him to other location. Both battle, but Scorpion was finally defeated. Still, Ermac was thrown far away from Tsung's island so he decided to return to Kahn's castle.

Kitana and Sindel found Chamelon (or a bunch of soldiers, if you don't believe him cannon) guarding Edenia's orb, and both fight their way into the castle hiding it.

Liu Kang and Kung Lao found Raiden defeated, and stopped Kahn from killing him (in this state of power, Raiden couldn't restore his god essence so he would had died for real). Both Shaolin battles Shao Kahn, but his strenght provided much to both to handle. Kung Lao was struck hard and fell to the grinders bellow Shao Kahn's throne. Liu Kang, though he was dead, was enraged and gained the little edge he needed to overcome Shao Kahn's forces. Shao Kahn was defeated, and lost control over the souls he took. All the habitants of Earth were slowly restoring their souls. Liu Kang, rather than finishing Shao Kahn, carry Raiden out of the castle to a safe spot. Kung Lao had found himself outside Kahn's castle. He didn't know who did it, but (seeing the people getting up) guess that Liu Kang had won. Rather than return to him, he decided to fade in the shadows and retire from fighting. Unknown to him, his savior, the cyborg Smoke, was heading towards Kahn's throne. He wanted to redeem himself from what he had become, and though killing Kahn was the best he could do. Smoke reached the throne, but didn't count on Ermac's appareance. Ermac blasted Smoke before he could kill Shao Kahn and shut him down.

Johnny, Jax and Sonya were succesfull in finding the Orb inside Shang Tsung's demolished palace. Johnny had a feeling he will no be alive after the realms were divided, but there were no other way. After saying goodbye and that he enjoyed fighting alongside the greatest fighters of Earth, Johnny smash the orb, destroying the bond. The Earth returned to normal, and Kahn's castle (with all who was inside) was dragged to Outworld again. Kano, who was ready to re-enter Earth, found his way cut when the portal closed for good.

Shao Kahn was really weakened from the battle, but a final strike was about to be dealt before all ends. Kitana and SIndel defeated Chameleon (or the soldiers) and destroyed Edenia's orb, freeing Edenia from Shao Kahn's control.

Raiden, having restored his god status after the victory of Liu Kang, carry Liu Kang, Jax, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Kabal, Nightwolf and Stryker to the Wu Shi Academy, where Raiden gave Liu Kang his third honorin medal for saving Earth yet again. They let a minute of silence for Johnny Cage, Smoke and Kung Lao, whose sacrifice was vital to saving the realm.

After the ceremony Liu Kang received the visit of Kitana and Jade. Jade was victorious in defeating Reptile and had brought him Edenia to pay for his crimes. Kitana thanks Liu Kang for all his help in saving her mother and her realm. Liu Kang asked Kitana about Rain, but she didn't have any new about him. She though he may have died trying to prove his worthy. After another emotive chat, Kitana bids farewell and returns to Edenia with Jade.

Shao Kahn imprisons Shang Tsung after his failure. Kano was appointed to lead his army in Outworld to cool down the revolts that started after his defeat. Ermac was the lone warrior who returned to his side. Baraka, feeling the punishment for his failure, had left Shao Kahn and his race and embarked to another realms. Mileena and Noob Saibot had returned to inform about the results of the war to Shinnok.

Cyrax, without reaching Shao Kahn after his defeat, was left to malfunction in the desert. Sektor, having survived Smoke's attack, returned to headquarters.

Nightwolf and Stryker returned to his daily routines, after a blessing from Raiden to all his aid. Kabal decided to fight evil, and Jax and Sonya finally form the Outerworld Investigation Agency. Liu Kang mourns his friend's death, but carry on the restore of the Temple of Light. Sub-Zero went his way, without a clear path to follow. And Raiden returned to his duties as Thunder God (whatever he does). Earth could rejoice of a moment of peace, unknowing that an ex-Elder God had plans to take the weakened forces of Earth...

TO BE CONTINUED.

Sorry for the size. I wasn't expected to be so big, but I got into a lot of details. Hope you didn't hate me if you read all this mess :) If you liked it, I will put forward my take at MK4 (hopefully, not that long) and his rather forgotten (Thanks to Deadly Alliance) events.

Thanks for reading! The_Blind_Kenshi.

Oops! I had forgotten poor Khameleon. I couldn't believe I had remember Chameleon (A.K.A. "One Sentence Story") and forget about her female counterpart.
Well, to redeem to her about my mistake, this is the last bit of the story about her:

Khameleon had been searching Reptile since the last of their specie died. She went to the torn-war Earthrealm. In there she was attacked a few times by some masked soldiers, and finally found Kitana and Sindel, going to Outworld. Kitana recognizes her as a Saurion, and Khameleon (knowing Kitana was Reptile's target) asked what was of him. Kitana told her that Reptile was stopped by Jade, and that the result of the combat is unsure. Khameleon rushed to where Jade was fighting. But before she could reach the spot, the Earthrealm was disbanded from Outworld, leaving Khameleon stranded in Outworld.

It's really a bit rushed. If I can think of anything better for her I'll write it down. Feel free to comment. Thanks and Bye.
That was good. I'll think of my own version to MK4's final battle shortly. Meanwhile... I have an adaption of MK1 up at ff.net

The third chapter provides some made-up background information for Liu Kang. It's quite sad near the end... sad

Well, one thing is confirmed

- Liu Kang kicked Shao Kahn's ass at the end of mK3.
- Liu Kang kicked Shinnok's ass at the end of Mk4.

I always said that there should be adventure games that detail what specifically happened in MK3 and MK4, but seeing Shaolin Monks.....well, now I don't think they should. Really, it all just showed it from Liu Kang and Kung Lao's p.O.V., no one else's, so there's still alot open. How do you know Shao Kahn didn't send his warriors after the others? We don't know what they went through WITHOUT Kang and Lao.

They wouldn't have to do anything for MKDA and MKD, since we pretty much know what happened in there.
