I've emailed Midway almost five different times on this subject, and once on all the bugs in all the games. I asked is Smoke still accessable (fightable) in MKII on Midway Arcade Treasures 2? I got this reply:
Due to the button setup of Midway Arcade Treasures 2, this feature is no longer available in MKII, the same goes for the Random Select in MKII.
In other words, MKII is nowhere near 100% arcade perfect. Smoke, and Random Select are both gone from MKII. I emailed them back like this:
So much for "arcade perfect"
Now we know that, we can all now stop looking for a way to fight Smoke in MAT2's MKII because, he was removed. Damn midway!!
Since we now know that, what do you guys think of Midway, and MAT2? Since I have MAME, I am actually sending my MAT2 back to Midway. Not just for the MK games, but all the other games have major issues, and bugs as well. Let me know what you think. For me, it makes me not want to buy MAT3 if they make it.

They didn't REMOVE him he just can't be accessed.
I also have a feeling the programmers probably didn't even know you could play as Smoke in MK3 cuz you can't save him.

They also removed a significant amount of "fun" from the games by neither random select, nor Smoke, being "accessible" in the game.

I was refering to MKII not MK3. Since the buttons are set up the way they are Smoke, and Random Select are unaccessable. It is a good thing I've got MAME too. I can still have both of these options if I wish. Midway I am sure has now ticked off a lot of true MK fans with MAT2. They kind of ruin the chances for MAT3 sales if they have MK on them. They need to rerelease MAT2 with all the fixes on it, and distributes it to people who bought the first copy like they did when MK Gold had all those bugs in it. That's just my opinion, but Smoke, and Random Select are unaccessable in MKII on MAT2.

maybe just tell digital eclipse they suck, and tell midway we demand the game from them and no one else. sounds good to me. i'm gonna start emailing digital eclipse, and i'm gonna do it 500 times. then midway. see, i enjoy mat2, cause those issues don't ruin it for me, but it is a legit complaint and it deserves to be addressed. especially for those who live to have an arcade perfect home version for once. i have an mk2 machine, with umk3 board as well, and so that is why its no biggie. but i can understand to those who don't want to shell out 900 bucks for one.

That sucks...oh well. I hope if there are MK ports on future games, they address issues such as this. I'm still happy with MAT2 though...me, my brother, and my friend sat around all day Tuesday playing nothing but MK2. It was so fun...I wish newer games could do that for me.

MAT2 isn't done by the same team that makes MK so they probably had no idea MK2 and MK3 used the Start button for purposes other than pausing the game. It was predictable that something like this could happen.

Me a newb? Nope. Cursing will get you nowhere. We all know who the Newbs are on MKO usually, but aside the fact: Smoke is still poking his head in and out of the Living Forest, and still appearing giving clues on how to fight him except you can't. This is a huge error that can really get on your nerves after a while.
I just bought MAT2 this week and after playing nothing but MK 2 and 3 the last few days I noticed that Smoke seemed to be inaccessable....I didn't wonder too much about it but now I know the truth....lol
It's no big deal to me seeing as how you can't play as Smoke in MK2, only against him....and you can unlock him in MK3 but not save him as I found out....
I'm still happy with the conversions....

What audacity! This coming from the same one who claimed that MAT2's MKII and the Kollectors Edition/Premium Pack MK1 were taken from...*cough* SEGA CD PORTS OF BOTH GAMES? *cough* Where MKII didn't have Smoke and MK1 didn't have Reptile? Last I recall, there was no Sega CD port of MKII. There was a SATURN port, though, but that doesn't change the fact that YOU, "REALganondorf", said it was the SEGA CD port of MORTAL KOMBAT TWO! Not only that, but your claim of KE/PP MK1 being taken from the Sega CD port, with no Reptile was proven FALSE by an entire series of screenshots above your post.
And even after all of that, you still have the nerve to call us "NEWBS"? No wonder you get ridiculed! Smoke IS in the game! He DOES give hints! He DOES pop out from behind the trees in the Living Forest! He's just not accessable, unless some game hacker finds a way to find Smoke in MKII via a cheat device!
Those are my words! I am standing by them, and I will NOT take them back, even if I do get skulled for this!
