I know that you all love the fact that Liu is dead, but don't you think that it disrupts the story?

I mean, there hasn't been an official tournament since MK2, and Liu won that, so technically he should be immortal. MK3 was an invasion, MK4 was something of an invasion, and MK5 was something like a war. I thought the stipulations of MK were that the champion (Liu) had immortality until the next official tournament.

If anyone could clarify this for me, I would appreciate it.

No I don't think it disrupts the story. But I thought that myself.. it is supposed that the MK champions are immortals so I never understood how could it be possible that he was killed...

But besides that... MK:DA is a tournament actually... can't remember which ending or character profile says so. Ah, Li Mei's story, that is... it says that she needs to "win the tournament" in order to free her ppl...

No it's not...that was only something Li Mei participated in after Quan Chi gaveher the offer to free her people, but all he wanted was her warrior spirit. A tournament isn't mentioned anywhere else in the game.

Winning the tournament didn't make you immortal, it just made you keep your youth.

Anyway, the MK storyline needed a break from Liu Kang, so it doesn't disrupt the story.

Yeah, like the others said. The Mk Champions from Mk1 became Immortal, they remain young, not getting old, but can DIE if killed by anyother way.

About Li Mei, Quan Chi "invented" a little tournament that promised Li mei to free her people only IF she won. She did, but he cheated. So Tsung would take the soul of the warriors that lost, and finally the champion soul.

It's like Shang Tsung, while the soulnado is open. As long as he consumes souls he's immortal, and as long as he has the soulnado he can keep consuming souls. But that doesn't mean none of the earth warriors can kill him.

But I think it DOES disrupt the story that he died, not in the sense that it breaks the rules of the story, but it's such a huge plot twist, such a major turning point, it means Mortal Kombat will never be the same.

No, no, no. "Mortal" means susceptible to death, so thus 'immortal' means that you can't die. I don't care about vampires, as I think they're a shitty example. If immortality was weak and wiry like the examples you're providing, then so many people in MK wouldn't be after it. You can be immortal and still not be indestructible, (example, able to still feel pain) although they would sort of go hand in hand.

Unless there was some MK rule saying that a threat to earthrealm is an official MK, then I don't get this. Hmm.. I've just answered my own question with an assumption.

Okay, I've answered my question. You can discuss this some more if you want to, but I'll only check in periodically.

No offence but you guys are really stubborn... take a look at Li Mei's Bio...

Take a good look where it says: "DEADLY ALLIANCE TOURNAMENT"...

They offered her the chance to free her ppl if she could beat everyone else... It's not some aside tournament or something like that...

Uhhh... No where else does it say that it's a tournament. Plus, it says "Deadly Alliance tournament", inferring that it's just a little sham contest that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung are holding.

Let me repeat: NO WHERE else does it say anything about a tournament. If you're still stubborn, maybe this will change your mind, although I have low expectations that it will. Just stroll through with the Find/Search utility (Ctrl+F) until you find either Li Mei's story or the basic synopsis of what happens in MKDA.

I don't mean to argue your definition of "immortal" as I agree with it, but when exactly did they say Kahn was immortal? I thought all the Outworld characters just had long-ass life spans.

This bring up something that's always confused me. Aren't MK tournament sceduled in some way? Or if I feel like taking over the world, can I just start killing people and call it Mortal Kombat?

Okay, let's put an end to the definition of immortal bullshit. Here's the dictionary definition:

im·mor·tal ( P ) (-môrtl)

adj.
  • Not subject to death: immortal deities; the immortal soul.
  • Never to be forgotten; everlasting: immortal words.
  • Of or relating to immortality.
  • Biology. Capable of indefinite growth or division. Used of cells in culture.

  • n.
  • One not subject to death.
  • One whose fame is enduring.

  • If someone is immortal, they can't be killed. Take it or leave it.
