Like I said, I really miss the first game. Reason being, despite the fact that the graphics of the day were done extremely crudely by today's standards, to me they were the shit at the time, and now that I think about it, certain parts of MKDA feel like throwbacks to that era. But what I miss most is the simple concept of fighters fighting in a tournament just to see who can survive, and who can defeat the big, bad boss (Shang Tsung). Although in the arcade attract mode, I believe Outworld is mentioned somewhere (if memory serves, I could be wrong), most of the backstory to the game, including the story of the prequel that eventually destroyed the evolving storyline completely until MKDA, was added with the release of the second game, and going forward from that. I'd like to see a future MK that doesn't need the everybody fighting to save or rule the world concept - it's just so very tiresome by now. I just wanna see a bunch of different personalities battling it out in a true tournament.

I completely agree with you. That's the reason I was drawn to MK1. At the time I was hyped up with all the Tournament Martial Arts movies that came out with Jean Claude Vandam (spelling?) and that Karate Kid movie.

I wish Kung Lao would just take the damn tournament in his control (or whoever won MKDA) and turn MK back into the tournament it used to be. "A fight for honor and glory" I believe. There should be fighters from across the glovbe competing, that way we can see characters with varoius fighting styles, weapons, and looks.

I too am sick of the same bull shit about the chosen warrios having to fight off ugly mutant beasts and big bad bosses who want to take over Earth realm. If the MK Team can't just trash that idea, they could just say people from other realms join the new MK tournament to defeat Kung Lao (or whoever won MKDA) so THEY could take control of the tournament.

Whatever... I'm going now.

So true.

I hope for MK6, the Dragon King hosts a new Mortal Kombat TOURNAMENT, grand prix being the control of earthrealm. And of course Raiden and his earthrealm warriors would all compete in it, along with wild cards like human Drahmin, Scorpion and Nitara. Ah you know, just like the good old MK1 and 2.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as cool and good as MK:DA is/was, I'd give anything for a 'new, yet old-school MK'...as in the 'primitive' graphics, the secrets, the uppercut an roundhouse kicks, etc...but that won't do to keep up with the big boys (SC2, VF, Tekken, etc), so it's not going to happen, but believe me I live everyday for hope of an MK Kollecion someday....

Whoa, take it easy there, I didn't mean I want to return to the same graphics and simplistic gameplay MK1 had. Of course I'd love to see an MK kollection, but I meant that I'm nostalgic for those things, not that I want them to continue. What the next MK should be is a beat-em-up with no save-the-world crap muddying things up. Advance the gameplay and push the graphic engines, but adhere to the KISS rule as far as the storyline (Keep It Simple, Stupid). I think that could more than match up with the fighters of the current era, don't you?

If you want to play a fighting game that is just about honor or whatever, then go play Tekken or Street Fighter.

Then in a few years when you are sick of fighting in an honorable tournament you will be whining about how weak the storyline has become.

Um, NO. Okay, yeah, MKDA helped reinvent the story behind the game a lot of you seem to cherish so much, but the way it's running the series doesn't have a lot of years left anyway. What would be so wrong with trying something different, instead of more of the same?
And to Alpha_Q_Up: If I wanted to play a different game, I'd be doing that. I'm talking about reinventing the MK series. Does the idea scare you or something?

I wouldn't mind seeing it go in a different direction, like 'ok this one isn't about saving earth' but really it doesn't matter to me, I just like playing the game, the endings and stories are just secondary to me. I must admit tho, MK does not seem as 'dark' as it used to, but that's probably for a lot of reasons...honestly I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the arcade scene is pretty dead and they won't make any MK arcade games...I think that 'feeling' of playing MK in a dark arcade for hours trying to figure out "Kombat Kodes" and buying cheat sheets from the dude in the back is what I really miss... sad

The problem with MK is Ed Boon. He is an idiot and all his game have been totally crap.

MK1 was a total fluke. It was just another game churned out by Boon and Midway. But magically it was actually decent! True it was the blood that made it so popular but I quite like the game itself anyway.

MK2 was another fluke. For the first time in his life, Boon improved on something and made it cool. This never happened ever again.

The story line is messed up because Boon has no judgment. Unfortunately, he will always be in control of the game. Even if he was to mysteriously disappear, the game would go to another bunch of idiots at Midway.

The only thing that can save the series is some other company buying the rights at firing Ed Boon. He couldn't even copy Soul Calibur without making a mess of it. WHAT THE HELL IS IT WITH YOU AND DIAL A COMBO YOU MORON?!?!?
