I posted a topic saying that MK3 had the worst storyline of the MK games, but I would also go as far as to say that it was the worst of the MK games as well. First, what the hell was up with some of the fatalities? Liu Kang dropping an MK 1 machine on you? Jax morphing into a giant and stepping on you? Kabal taking of his mask and scaring your soul out of you? Smoke blowing up the world? Cyrax blowing himself up, only to fight in the next match? I can go on and on about how horrible most of the fatalities were in this game. Second, the addition of the mercy feature. Aside from being required to do it to perform an animality, why would anyone use this? Third, the new characters aren't very good. Has any character besides Cyrax and Sektor that first made their appearance in MK3 been in any other MK game, no. That's because they were lame characters. An indian, a cop, a chick with bad hair, a Goro rip off, give me a break. Fourth, one thing that I always hated was that when you performed a fatality that blew up your opponent, your opponent had about 5 skulls, 3 rip cages, and half a dozen leg bones. I know this is a video game, but can we please be a little more realistic. I also hated the two new additions to the MK series, these being the run button and combo system. In MK4, the combo system was much better than it is in MK3 and MK:DA has a great combo system. I found it difficult to pull of combos in MK3, however. I also found it incredibly annoying when my opponent would run up to me and hit me with a huge combo. When I tried to do that, I usually got my ass kicked. Not to mention that the "Uggggggggggggggg" sound that your character made every time they ran got old very fast. Finally, Midway released MK3, then they released UMK3, then they released MKT. The story was horrible, too. You can read my other post to see what I mean. It seems that they spent a lot of time trying to make this game better than the piece of junk that they originally released to the public.

you're wrong. MK3 was tight it was when they tried to add on to it with UMK3 and MKT that the game took a dive.

... and look what midway did. They improved! MK3 was made 8 years ago... so they realized their mistake and made the series better in MK4/MKDA.

I thot Kabal's scream was pretty tight, as well as Cyrax's self destruction. Sure it's odd to see... but like you said.. it's just a game. And thats funny... I never really realized that the only new characters to be in another MK game is Sektor and Cyrax. I guess they weren't all that great... but I'd like to see Kabal and possibly Motaro return.

I thought the story was kind of interesting. I liked the twist of Sindel being reborn on earth and that being the key to let the portals open, and the fact that the planet was practically wiped out by the stealing of souls and the annihilation squads.

As far as the fatalities I thought they were pretty funny. After MK2 introduced friendships and babalities I was expecting more stupid stuff and thats what they had. As far as they are concerned I think MK2 started the trend towards joking fatalities which led to the MK3 ones being not so great.

As far as the characters, I liked Sindel and the robots, I still think Stryker and Nitewolf are terrible characters as far as their story and their look.

But, despite me feeling the look and feel are below the standards of MK2, I still prefer UMK3 because it had some really outstanding and fun gameplay. It was faster, more complex and more entertaining then the previous MKs, and even MK4 IMO. I haven't played enough MKDA to say whether that has become my favorite. I played probably 2 dozen rounds against people and so far I still favor UMK3.

I am a fan of MK3, but I read anyway because I figured you meant a fan of MK3s fatalities and story because gameplay is often overlooked.

Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke are all part of Sub-Zero's story in MK3. So how can they suck if everything about Sub-Zero is so great?

I liked MK3. I liked it better than MK2. I was suprised when people didn't like the dail up combo system. funny how people say MK:DA is better than MK2, yet MK:DA has much more and longer "dail up combos". I personal think that MK2 was a Fad back in 1993 . I mean kid's parents hated it, and you know how that goes, and I talk to alot of people and they say MK2 was the 1st MK game they played. I for example was playing MK when it 1st game out back in 1992 when I was 8 years old. I loved MK1 when it 1st came out. As for as storyline goes liked MK3 storyline. Khan finds a way to open the gates of Earth and finding a "cheat the MK torney system" and stealing everyone souls. To me pretty good storyline. To me the run button was great it made the gameplay much faster. Before in MK1 and MK2 you had to walk up to people, and that could take a while, not long, but a while. The run button add a suprise element of attack or even trick the other person into thinking you were going to attack >:.). As for as 3 heads, 4 arms,5 legs after the aftermath of a Fatality, true that was a bit odd, but Ed Boon said it best in the MK:DA 's history of MK. Eb boon said " no one wants to pay for reality, games go beyond reality to the point where you can do it is through a video game" I couldn't agree with him more. MK isn't ment to be 100% reality. it is beyond reality. Heck most games are beyond reality. I do agree that MK3 fatalities were a bit silly, but give it a break, some where good , some where bad. When it comes to the multi parter MK3 storyline it was cool to me. MK3/UMK3/MKT all linked to one another. Think of it of as a star wars film to be continued was like in MK3 and UMK3,MKT the KHAN downfall couldn't be explained in 1 game, so the MK team made it into a mini triogly that explain all the pieces are put together what do you get( like noob sobiot reporteding to the fallen elder god** Shinnok***). To me in the End MK3 is a fine example of storyline and mythogly in a game. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying anything about you or anyone that feels that MK3 is lame, nor am I saying that you should like MK3 over MK2 or anything like that, but from a MK fan overall, I just want to voice a MK3 POV. Thanks for your time. :.l

When people complain about MK3 having overload of bones, they need to look at MK2 and realize that they did the same thing with that game. No one has 3 pelvic bone sets, or 8 long bones in their body (one in each arm and leg, should be only 4), but that's how many you can expect in MK2. MK3 only added the skulls, arms, and legs, but yes, both games have a bone overload, and that only carried on until MKT's super bone fest, and ended with MK4 having the body parts seperate instead of deboning them.

MK3 rocked in my opinion. They'll never be another one to top MK2, no matter what...but MK:DA is 2nd best, then MK1. I HATED MK4. Just plain sucks! The characters are goofy looking. The announcer talks proper instead of scary/mean sounding. The combo system sucked a$$! big time! I did like the addition of the weapons though. This is all just my opinion. So, dont anyone hold it against me. Everyone has their own thoughts, so these are mine.

Mercy is hold Run, press up 2 or 3 times and then release run about a half screen away on the third round.

Wrong direction. It's hold Run, Down, Down, Down, release beyond sweep range. 3rd round.

If you're looking to decide which MK was the least entertaining then i would have to say MK4!
MK had the original edge; new game exploiting violence in a way that was rarely seen before. The story was good and the ending FANTASTIC!
MK2 was a good continuation of the MK tournament saga; Shao Kahn getting pretty peeved at poor Shang so he decides to get off his throne and kick some ass himself. Yes, the fatalities and friendships for some characters seemed a bit far fetched but it was things like that that got people hooked!
MK3 was probably a very brave move. Having already made 2 games wherein the second game you actaully get to kill Shao Kahn (i love the turning to stone and exploding bit :), to have him then re-appear and then go at taking the Earth realm AGAIN was a bit of a head stratcher.
MK4 took the original idea and kinda put it through a shredder, stuck it back together and put it back on the shelf. Shinook, who until MK4, had never even been mentioned - as well as Quan Shi - and to now see these two was a bit of a shock. Ok, it did help carry the MK games to another level being now fully 3D with better moves, weapons and fatalities, but let's face it, Shinook only got a cameo with ONE game in the great MK world!! At least Quan Shi got to play pals with Shang Tsung in MK:DA!!!
and finally, MK:DA, probably one of the best MK's: Konquest, Krpyt, Pratice, and the ultimate treat the Making of Mortal Kombat video!!!! What more could you ask for?! Let's just say, can't wait for another installment!

Well, it's just my opinion, as everyone has their own - looking at the entried above!
