The guys over at IGN have just posted the motherload when it comes to the upcoming Ultimate MK for the Nintendo DS, which they just got their hands on. As previously reported, UMK is the combination of the arcade port of Ultimate MK3 and the Puzzle Kombat minigame from MK Deception.

The first significant change one will notice from the screenshots is that you can flip the way the information is displayed on which screen – you have komplete kontrol over which whether the the actual fighting itself will take place on the top or the bottom, leaving the other screen free for move lists, Fatalities, and other such information. One area which looks to be completely revamped is the Ultimate Kombat Kodes used to unlock the hidden characters – they now use only five different symbols instead of the original ten. One presumes this means that with the recoding of the UKK system, a save feature will be built-in.

Puzzle Kombat is much the same as it was before, with the bottom screen containing the actual puzzle game and the top containing a visual representation of how the game is going with two kartoony versions of your kharacters engaging in kombat. One of the videos shows a slightly revised version of the Puzzle Kombat ladder which as never been seen before. The screenshots also depict the Puzzle Kombat select screen with some darkened (unselectable) characters, and at this point it's unknown how they will be unlocked. Some possibilities are Ultimate Kombat Kodes, or "rewards" based on your performance in either UMK3 or Puzzle Kombat.

According to the article, the game already plays as if it's 100% completed, except for the occasional lock-up here and there. This should, of courase, be removed by the time the game reaches.... finality.
