I'm just asking because I never figured this out, what in the name of hell is the Inner Sanctum?

I know it is a regeneration chamber, but "altered from his previous form" does not necesarily mean he had been returned to his original human form.

its a regeneration chamber..as it it revives things

once restored he is human(oid)

we can see this by his hands which are human

Well, in the Kript, there is a drawing of the Inner Sanctum, where it explains what is, and it puts that it is a place where Quan Chi left its body so that its soul made trips astral.

The Koffin is the AX.
