Liu Kang was killed at the hands of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. It's In Intro of MKDA. However, I have a feeling he might return, somehow, since in Quan Chi's ending...Kang's soul went Into Kano's body.

Liu Kang dying in the intro to MKDA sparks a new start to the series. Liu Kang was the main character in the previous MK's (What I mean by that is, that according to the story he was the big hero) and with him out of the equation, it's brought a whole new beginning to the MK storyline.

He won't be returning, that's one thing you can be sure of.

i read in an earlier post that some character was brought back to life by someone in a previous mk. i think it was cage by raiden. but i forget. is it possible that it happens to lui also?

Well, it'd be 'theoretically' possible, and I while I wouldn't rule it out completely, I doubt we'll see Kang back as the main character anytime soon. From what I've gathered, The Outer World Investigation Agency/Black Dragon, and the new Lin Kuei seem more prominent now, but you never know what they might cook up for MK6...

Liu Kang is dead, but he should come back (though maybe not in MK6) as a wildcard, having no memory of his past, and searching for the truth.

Sheeva is dead and not important enough to bring back.

I think I've heard that the MK team has been working on a new design for Jade so her chances of returning are pretty good (I'd say 50/50). I'd like to see her and Mileena back, as long as they're not just Kitana palette swaps.

Stryker and Nightwolf were some of the most ill-concieved characters in MK history. I hope they are dead and stay dead.
