On the SNES (I use zsnes) anyone ever play as johnny cage, do his shadow kick, and it turn red? Is this an extra move, b/c it makes a different noise and everything. Anybody kno?

I've seen that too. It's red, and sounds electrified. Never got explained, I don't think.

I think it's just a glitch that happens every so often, like the Street Fighter 2 Red Hadoken. Not sure if it turns out stronger or not.
For some reason, on the Amiga (old computer, used to be quite popular in Europe) version of MK2, Johnny's Shadow Kicks/Uppercuts either came out red or blue, depending which colour the outfit was, rather than the usual green.

because Nintendo hates Johnny. nobody knows why, they just do. I think they've been really offended since the Zedox chronicles. Mario and Luigi make fun of him behind his back... and sometimes in front of his back. they walk up to him and say, "haha! you're fat! haha! you're ugly! haha! you're Johnny Cage!" Luigi took a dump in his car once.
The red shadow kick is like a rare thing to come across with him. It's a spontaneous move that happens like once every number of times you perform the shadow kick. It has a greater range of attack and does just a slight more amount of damage. That's what I thought of it, instead of a glitch.

Thats what it is actually. After a certain number of green shadow kicks, he will do the red one, which is faster and more powerful.

and it`s surely not a glitch (see mk2 challenger hack)
I remember reading an old game magazine with an interview with I think tobias might have been boon, where they had asked about turning glitches from mk1 into offical moves in mk2 (IE scorpions flame from anywhere on the screen, and johnny cages triple head uppercut) during his response to this question he mentions johnny cages red shadow kick, so obviously it's not a glitch in 2. I had heard before this that it was originally a glitch in mk1(or possibly one of the ports) which they added into mk2 and happens after 100 shadow kicks. I can't say for sure if that's true because he never actually says that the glitch is in a previous mk from what I remember.. anyone else remeber this interview?

I assumed it was a glitch, until I noticed it actually had a different sound and everything. And that was straight from the arcade rom.
