On Wikipedia, it states in Johnny Cage's trivia:
Johnny's death in MKT and resurrection for MKG were retconned by John Vogel into "bad writing." Possibly part of the script for The Death of Johnny Cage. Johnny doesn't officially die until the opening of Mortal Kombat: Deception, where the Deadly Alliance kills Raiden's warriors (and Onaga resurrects them).

That's a dumb retcon. It takes away some of the depth Cage might've had in MKT and MK4. i refuse to recognize it unless they make a game set in the MK3-MK4 era where they have that in.
I think it is the best of the retcons so far. Cage has been ruined IMO by the death sentences, and he is not the one who could fit the supernatural cri-teria of a character. He would have looked ridiculous as a reborn fellow with a death experience and still look like a cheezefeast.
I like how they "sugegst" in my interpretation the MK3 stuff. Johnny didn't die, he was probably mortally wounded -"thus his soul lingered around, meaning he was between life and death".
Also, this makes it look that everything in the MK plotline is bearabl;e, and wghen it comes to cage's plotline it can be interpreted as his movies scrip-ting. When you change the prespective it goes back to normal MK.
Sideline note: Cage is the Spiderman of MK, using the overconfident and arrogant taunting movie star as a disguise against his foes and...uhh, against his comrades?

Nah. Cage's storyline is just utter crap and he should've stayed dead after MK3. His MK4 story is bland and his MKDA story is garbage.
To me, Cage is the Han Solo of MK in that he's cocky and egotistical, but deep down is a good person who helps his friends.

they should have never retconed his MK3 story, the fact of the matter is, his death and resurection in the 3 was never the problem, it was when they brought him back in 4 that they killed his story.
Story wise, MK3 was Jonny's time to shine, he actually died doing something important, becoming a hero. When they brought him back in 4 with Raiden just snapping his fingers, thats when his story became bland.
MKDA did nothing for him a well, but that's was because of MK4's story.
Jonny should have stayed dead in MK3 and made his return in MKD under the control of the DK. That would have been interesting.

I agree. He's a good break from all the demons, monks, sorcerers, vampires, ninjas, army people, criminals and basically every single no-bullshit character in MK.
Despite being a big movie star, he plays the Normal Joe who got caught up in it all by accident - wrong place at the wrong time. His goofy personality really adds to MK's diverse cast.

Nice thought about Johnny never officially dieing and like it was said before, I believe someone goofed in writing his bio in MK4 and it was never corrected in MK:DA.
To me Johnny has always been the most underrated and misunderstood character of Mortal Kombat. Remember he was ment to be a spoof of Van Damm in the first game so you know he was to be comic relief from the start, but since then there has to more to him than meets the eye. The odds of someone as self-centered and egotisical as he acts having the patience and perseverance to become a good enough martial artist to even be invited to Mortal Kombat almost impossible. Becoming good enough must have taken years of serious training something I don't see someone who is truely what Johnny Cage acts like being able to do. Also, how many 'clowns' do you know of would be so willing to jump into another realm and back into danger as Johnny did in MK2. He already made a name for himself surviving the 1st tournament...he didn't need to take part in the 2nd to do that. He wanted to help for little or no gain for himself, something a self-centered person would rarely if ever do.
So I believe, or perhaps hope is a better word, that the clown act is only that--an act. Perhaps he's been in front of the cameras so much, he's forgotten to act like himself or he is trying to 'protect himself' emotionally......who knows. Or maybe I'm putting too much thought into this....after all he is only a video game character. *grin*
