Johnny Cage
XcarnageX Wrote: Cage is probably my least favorite character. He has no depth, he's a prettyboy, he's arrogant (see mk4 ending), and I don't think he fits the game. Plus, as he's an actor and a prettyboy, and as such he represents society's superficiality. Besides, one thing that pisses me off about actors: why the fuck do they make millions of dollars, when war veterans are starving and sleeping in gutters? I mean, sure, actors in movies take us on a vacation from reality, but how many have taken a bullet for your freedom? |
Well, that pretty much sums up everything I have to say on this issue!
I was VERY turned off when I found out Cage was going to be in MKDA. First of all, I wish the MK creators would get out of this thing where you like to revive dead characters. I didn't like it the first time, and I don't like it now. Cage's storyline is incredibly weak, and is very inconsistant with previous events. He's been riding with the "good guys" for too long now, I'm hoping he'll be gone by the next one.

I don't care what anyone says who the fuck cares about his story this is mortal kombat not the fucking real world stories dont mean shit i mean yeah i wish he had a more interesting story but mortal kombat is about fighting and i can fight with Johnny Cage and that's all that matters to me.

Well...that's a pretty shallow view of the game. Mortal Kombat is just about beating each other up, huh? The story is unimportant? The story is a HUGE part of MK, especially in MKDA. MK has an entire mythology behind it, it's a massive, evolving legend. Personally I enjoy MK as much for the story and interesting characters (the ones that ARE interesting, that is) as for the gameplay and violence. An actor in MK is, IMO, an insult to the game, and the MK legacy.

Just because he is an actor doesn't mean shit, he's a well trained martial artist as well. He's an original and had a good story in the beginning trying to proove himself to the world, but it just got a little stale. Same with Scorpion his story is getting really boring too, he's been trying to kill Quan Chi for 2 games now and it'll probably continue in MK6. Don't get me wrong I love following the story of MK and I didn't mean to say that it's only about fighting because I love seeing where each new game takes the fighters I simply saying that Johnny Cage is a great fighter and I think his fighting skills should be more important than his story.

Insult to the 'MK Legacy'? Hmm.... I do recall Cage being in the first MK, making him a pretty important part of this 'legacy' you speak of. There is no need to start a flame war here, if you like Cage, say so, if you don't then thats fine. There is no need to carry on and on.

I know Cage was in the first MK and I'm not tryin to start a flame war. I just don't like his character, and as an actor he just doesn't seem fit to be a part of the story. I dunno, maybe I'm just prejudiced against actors or something...

Yes, but unfortunetly, his moves, fatalities, and storyline has not changed since the first MK.
I wouldn't say many of the original combantants have changed much. Scorpion and Sub-Zero have the same moves/fatalities from the earlier games, and everyone loves them. Look at the people who like Cage posts, most say he does indeed need development. I've heard alot of people with good ideas for development, lets just see if he gets that same "movie" ending he always gets in future games, hopefully a change is coming.

I couldn't agree more, and talking about lame stories look about Sub-Zero's the original is killed and coincidentally his brother has the exact same powers and costume, look at Liu Kang's his never changes always winning the tournament, and I definitly think Cage is a better fighter than Liu Kang yet no one bitches about his repetitive story.
