Li Mei is one of the most underused characters in MK:DA, and I thought I'd start a thread that would help players become good with her...
Li Mei's first style, Baji Quan, is her second best style. This style mainly revolves around her 4, 4, 4 combo and the three pop up moves, F+1, B+2, B+4. Because of this, the Baji Quan style can get a little predictable so it's usually a good idea to start a juggle combo with her Klock Kick rather than her normal pop up moves.
Li Mei's strongest style is Lui He Ba Fa without a doubt. It has a lot of simple combos like 1, 1, 1; 1, 1, 2, 4; 2, 2; and 1, 1, 2, 2. Her Lui He Ba Fa stance also has a good knock away move, U+1
What seperates this style from the her other styles is that she has one good combo that ends with a pop up move. 1, 1, 2, B+1. After they are popped up into the air you have a lot of choices on how to inflict damage. My favorite way to finish this combo is with her Klock Kick, which knocks the opponent up into the air yet again and then I hit them with either her Flying Fists attack or her Kartwheel Kick. A Sparkler would also work as a final hit to the combo.
Li Mei's Sai stance is her worst stance... There just aren't many good moves in this stance. It's slow, predictable, and the damage isn't all that great. The style's only pop up move, U+2, is way to slow to be effective. In fact, the only good thing about the style is that Li Mei can impale her opponent, which is probably the only reason you should use this stance.
So, anyone else have any strategies for her?

Baji Quan is her most powerful stance. That's where all of her damage comes from! A simple combo starting in Baji Quan (4,4,cs,b+1) ending with f,d+3, d,b+4 does 32% and the same combo starting in Lui He Ba Fa (1,1,2,b+1) does only 20%!
Using Baji Quan's 4,4 to poke with is very safe and if you are quick enough to see when it hits and when it's blocked, you can end the string with cd,b+1 and do a good damage combo with ease. She has a good low attack that is hard to see where it hits with d+4, it looks like it should hit mid or high, but it's a low attack. I use Lui He Ba Fa mainly for the sweeps. I mainly use b+3, it's slower but if you are walking towards your opponent and want to sweep it's your only option because using d+3 would make you do her Klock Kick (f,d+3).
Haven't played her in a long time...but yeah, Sai is almost useless...too slow and like Drahmin, no chains. The only mixup is b+4 (sweep) and u+2 (popup). b+1 is a good setup move because you can BDC (Back Dash Cancel - b,b once the move begins recovery frames) out of it...but if it hits I would JFC (Jump Forward Cancel - d~uf) to stand over their fallen body and you are free to do any low/mid mixup you want.
My brain hurts...anyone else?

Cool
Ok, now for some Special Move analysis!
Sparkler - The Sparkler is basically just your very average energy ball attack. It has decent speed but probably won't catch seasoned MK:DA veterans off guard. It's always a safe move to use at a distance though, and it can also be used to end a juggle combo if you're quick enough.
Klock Kick - Li Mei's pop up special move. This attack has a bit of start up so most people can see it coming before it even comes out. The best way to use this attack is to use it to continue a juggle combo. Not only that but it looks ultra stylish.
Kartwheel Kick - This kicking attack has decent range and isn't a bad move to try and surprise your opponent. It's typically a pretty safe move to use, and just like all of Li Mei's special moves you can use this one to end a juggle combo.
Flying Fists - I'm not quite sure how I feel about this move. It looks kinda cool and is pretty quick.... But basically if it gets sidestepped or blocked you're screwed. This is just a move that you use ONLY if you're sure you'll connect with it. It also makes for a good way to end a juggle combo... Moloch seems to eat this move a lot more than Li Mei's other special attacks....
So, anybody else have any opinions?

If you want to win, you will stay in Baji Quan. Poking with 4,4 is just as good as anything she has available in LHBF.
About special moves...to add to DanHibikiFan's thoughts above:
Sparkler - Never use projectiles against Scorpion because they make you stationary and are susceptible to hellfire cheese. Other than that, I like to throw one out after I throw my opponent because they are forced to block it. I'm sure there are more moves like throwing that are good for this.
Klock Kick - This move is great used with her sweeps in Lui He Ba Fa as a mixup. If you are right next to your opponent and get blocked, you will be destroyed. BUT...if you do the Klock Kick from a distance and still get blocked, you are relatively safe because you are sweep or more distance away after they block it. Mainly used as the second launcher in combos followed by the...
Kartwheel Kick - If your opponent is always running away, this move is great to close the distance (it's faster than walking forward) and it recovers pretty fast. I wouldn't use this move for much else except ending combos with. Kind of like...
Flying Fists - Absolutely useless move...only for flash (isn't that what Li Mei is all about though?
) in ending combos with.

I too personally like the Lui He Ba Fa stance the best because I love big combos
Ok, I'll share some of my best custom combos!
Baji Quan:
Basically, to make a really good combo you have to start off with one of the three pop up moves in this stance. When your opponent is airborne you have two options, hit them with yet another normal pop up move or bust out with her Klock Kick. I ALWAYS use the Klock Kick because it looks cool and I believe it does more damage. Then to end the combo you have yet again a few options. You can end it with any normal attack, end it with another Klock Kick, end it with a Kartwheel Kick, end it with her Flying Fists attack (my fav), or if you're quick you can end it with a Sparkler.
Lui He Ba Fa:
Like in the original post, my favorite combo is her 1, 1, 2, B+1. The final hit is a pop up move and I always continue the juggle with a Klock Kick. For the last hit, it's a toss up between the Kartwheel Kick or her Flying Fists attack.
Sai:
As it is well known the Sai stance sucks... The best custom juggle combo I can come up with is to start with the U+2, then follow with a Klock Kick, and end with either the Kartwheel Kick or the Flying Fists attack. What sucks about this though is that not only is the U+2 attack ultra slow it REALLY launches your opponent in the air... They stay in the air so long it's sometimes tricky to hit them with the Klock Kick.

Li Mei's strongest style is Lui He Ba Fa without a doubt. It has a lot of simple combos like 1, 1, 1; 1, 1, 2, 4; 2, 2; and 1, 1, 2, 2. Her Lui He Ba Fa stance also has a good knock away move, U+1
This was from my first post and I have to make some corrections. The combos 2, 2 and 1, 1, 2, 2 don't actually exist lol.
They are actually 3, 3 and 1, 1, 3, 3. Sorry, I don't know how I messed that up...

Thank you for finally telling us. i actually tried that combo, and it didn't work, so i kept on trying it and trying it. Very stupid of me...I didn't even bother looking at the moves list, that could've helped me, too.

lol, sorry about that. I should have spotted the error when I first posted it. Dunno why I didn't see it...

I'm glad you posted this, Li Mei is pretty good I use her frequently. I dont really have a preference between Baji Quan or Lui He Ba Fa because I think they are both effective in there own ways, the main issue with Li Mei is that she is not very powerful, the other female characters for the most part are stronger, but she is quicker which can also be an advantage, her sai stance, as already stated, is practically useless although it has a decent sweep move, but it is slow like Nitara's kamas.

I'm glad you approve!
Li Mei is my favorite character to use and I just thought it'd be cool if other people started to use her more.
I used her Baji Quan stance a lot today just to check on a few things. It does appear that you can do just a bit more damage in this stance then in Lui He Ba Fa. Then again, you're pretty limited on what type of combos you can do normal or custom.
That's why I prefer the Lui He Ba Fa stance, it's more versatile. The lack of damage is more than made up for with the large number of combos, the knock away move, and the sweeps

Li Mei is a good character. Her styles are not the best, but are very effective. She sure is fast, especially in Baji Quan I think. She has A LOT of Special moves, and her combos are big.
I think MANY use her. Shes not my fave, but i dont hate her. Probably, the only thing taht people dont like about her is the fact that she isnt really original. She dosent really (and her story) have the Mk feeling other characters have. I dont know, probably is just me.
I give her 8/10.

Ok, I've got another issue about Li Mei
Anyway, this is about the special move in her Lui He Ba Fa stance. The shove move.
Does anybody seriously use this move? I find myself almost never using it because U+1 sort of has the same effect and does damage no less. I just think the shove move in this stance is a little useless. Any thoughts on this?
