In a nutshell: Reptile is only unlockable as a secret non-playable character in-game. You must fulfill the following requirements:

Play on the Pit stage.

A shadow (or Dan Forden's head) must float in front of the moon.

You must get two flawless victories against the opponent.

You must not block at all during the match (except during Sonya's and Scorpion's fatalities. Many people will tell you it's not possible to get to Reptile with these characters, but I've done it multiple times).

You must perform a fatality on the opponent (and, no, the Pit fatality does not count. You must perform the character's fatality on the opponent).

If these reqirements are met, at the end of the current match, you will fight Reptile at the bottom of the Pit.

I'm not sure, but I think there are some game genie codes that let you play as Reptile, but other than these, there is no way to play as him in-game.

The only way to unlock Reptile in MK1 is a gamegenie code, I have made the code available on my website, I apologize that I only have the code for SNES.

My favortite game glitch happens to involve 'green"crack"ninja'.

Fight and beat reptile once with any character. Then on the second time you are on the pit stage you should be fighting in an 'endurance match'. You MUST get a DOUBLE FLAWLESS against BOTH opponents w/out blocking. Then do your fatality. *Here, an odd glitch occurs and you fight a GREEN version of one of your opponents*

If you want a good laugh I suggest you turn on the 'flag' in the Cheats menu that makes the computer do a fatality when they win..

One last crazy thing that everyone who fought Reptile in MK1 should have seen was his version of Scorpion's finisher..green skeletons..incredible
