MAT2 versions are supposed to be arcade perfect, but they really arent. Infact the version in MKSM is a ripped version from MAT2.
Although they should be the same, there are small differences here and there. First, they are all faster than the arcade. On some arenas the game becomes even more faster than it is, especialy on Shao Kahn's arena (most noticeable on Xbox version). In PS2 version of the game it loses a bit of framerate in Dead Pool when 1 player game cause the words Press Start flash on 2 player's side. aaHP seems to be fast as hell and are very easy to be done in PS2 and Xbox, while the GameCube versions acts more like the arcade, but the sound there has some awful lag (actually that applies to all games in MAT2 for GameCube). The shadows in all 3 of them for the characters are flickery (notice how they appear when you jump or if the opponent is in the air). In PS2 and GameCube versions the game often slowdowns in Living Forest stage, but in Xbox its fine.
All 3 of them have sound issues. For example even after beating Shao Kahn you will hear in background that the music continue playing, and while the cast of characters is showed there is no music in background. One of the biggest mistakes the development team did in all 3 of them was that there is no way to fight versus Smoke, due the Pause button they decided to put.
Bottom line is that if you can play with xbox's controller its the best version, otherwise go for ps2.

The code you found is the right one, but remember to input it in the main menu and to release the white button immediately after pressing X (blue one). You will hear a sound if you entered the code correctly, so try a couple of times with different speed.
P.S. Welcome to MKO!
Thanks glad to be here,,,thanks for the explanation as i will most likely choose the mat version of xbox because of the controllers playability..hopefully a perfect emulation comes to the xbox 360 one day or it would be even better if they made a 2 player version like the super nes port instead of just a direct arcade emulation..
where can i get instructions on how to perform the fatalities for mk 2 on sm xbox version ?
ps...im still trying to unlock it but which button do i use for the u,d, r, l ? there are 3 navigational buttons on the xbox controller, 2 mini joysticks and a round navigational shaped button which is to the right of the 2 black buttons..Also is the main menu when i press kontent and then do the code ?

Since these Fatalities aren't performed differently because of the game being the SM version, you can find the combinations here for example.

The Xbox joypad has 2 analogs (mini joysticks if you like) and a directional pad (D-pad). The latter is the one you have to use for the code. But since it could be rather awkward to input the code normally, you can make it easier by putting the controller down (at least the right part with buttons) and entering the code like by the use of a keyboard. And remember to enter each part of the code precisely.

No, the main menu is where you have Single Player, Ko-op, Versus Mode and so on. Don't choose any of those, just enter the code there.

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but the MKSM version (on the PS2 at least) seems to have an incredible lag – like 1 - 1.5 seconds between the time you do the move and your character actually performs it. I don't have this problem at all on MAT2 for PS2.

PS2-to-Xbox controller adapters are always a good option too.
