Hey all,
I just signed up finally. I've been coming here since it was mk5.org. Actually, I'm glad it still redirects you, because I still type in mk5.org, lol. Anyways, I was sitting around bored, playing some Killer Instinct and it just dawned on me....
Tell me if you hear anything similar in any of this...
Chief Thunder:
A Native American Chief, armed with twin tomahawks, who enters the tournament to find out what happened to his missing brother Eagle in the previous year's tournament.
Eagle is Fulgore. Fulgore is a robot. Encased inside Fulgore is Eagle.
Jago:
A Tibetan monk following the Tiger Spirit, which later turns out to be Gargos in the second Killer Instinct, is on the path of enlightenment to defeat the evil within him. He was soon betrayed by the Tiger Spirit which turned out to be the demon Gargos in disguise. Gargos used Jago to gain entrance to the physical world. Jago seeks revenge against Gargos's manipulation.
Gargos:
A demon lord that has returned to the physical world. Resembles a huge gargoyle that is very powerful and can also breathe fire.
Not that this matters or is anything important, I just never realized this and didn't know how many other people noticed it, given KI decline in popularity over the years. I say MK rips off KI because as far as I knew, the time when those KI plotlines came out, the plot lines in MK that are similar were still some years away from what we know.

Yes, the game intself, but think about when what plotlines came out in what games released in what year?
Nice try though. You didn't really think about anything I said.
Mortal Kombat Deception: 2002 Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance: 2004
Killer Instinct 1: 1994 Killer Instinct 2/Gold: 1996
The thing about the brothers, I just took as speculation towards Cyber Sub Zero and people having thoughts to it being the original Sub Zero's body.

KI wasn't the first thing to ever have a plot where a guy's family member is secretly another guy.
There's no such thing as new ideas. The human race is too old for that. It's all been done. Everything you've ever thought of, everything I've ever thought of, everything the best writer in the world ever thought of. Somewhere, somewhen, someone else did it first. What makes stories good isn't where you get the ideas, it's how you tell them.

There's nothing new under the sun. Fact.

You'd think a man your age would be wrong less often than you are. All that life experience, yet none of it was spent studying writing or literature, I suppose?
Come to think of it...didn't I JUST see you post a link to a TVTropes page in a different thread earlier today? Which proves you already know about that site, a site that documents how everything in the world is a trope and how many forms of fiction have done it all before.
So really, is the source of your jackassery at the moment telling lies, or is it being blind?

Yeah, I'm obviously not anywhere near as fluent in KI as I am in MK, but I thought Fulgore was full-robot, like Fulgore models came off an assembly line and they just misused the word "cyborg", and there was a hint that Spinal was Thunder's brother or something like that (which always confused me 'cause I thought Spinal was supposed to be ancient).

You're right. If you strip Mortal Kombat down to its most basic element, most basic storyline, it's a story of Good vs. Evil. Nothing original, it's been done since the dawn of time, and the Good v. Evil stories will continue to exist until the end of humanity. Almost all characters in MK, or any story for that matter, are character archetypes that have been featured in thousands of stories before. Johnny Cage is the comic relief. Kahn is the evil megolomanic, etc, etc, etc. However, the differences between the stories and the ones that have come before it are the combination of elements, the details of each story.

so far as i am concerned, fulgore was a robot, not eagle.
and family members being someone else, its not new, i mean: Luke, im your father.

Classic reoccuring thematism and symbolism which are part of the human conciousness for socialization. There is sinply put a biological-psychological need to retell stories. That is why -as tvtropes put it- Aesops reoccur in different cultures simultaneously.
Postmodernism also states sometimes that all basic ideas are already told or explored. We can vary.

Killer Instinct has elements from Mortal Kombat, that's true... Like Mortal Kombat has elements from Street Fighter which came before MK. So all in all, they all have "ripped off" one another... except for Street Fighter, of course, since it was the first of its kind.
However, should I choose between the original MK and the original KI, I would totally pick Killer Instinct.

Neither game is original,no one, every game took ideas, concepts from old stories, mythologies, movies etc.,and SF wasn't the first, maybe it was the first popular fighter, but there are games that predates SF,two of them being Karate Champ and Yie Ar Kung Fu.
