Sub Zero's ending in MK1 for game gear is different than in all other versions of MK1, as far as I know... I never played PC version, but I doubt that it has this ending:
"After receiving the title of grand champion, Sub-Zero disappears back into the shadows from which he came. His only goal in the tournament was...
The assassination of Shang Tsung. He was paid a large sum of money by one of Tsung's wealthy nemies. With his mission accomplished, Sub-Zero will collect his fortune and retire from his dangerous profession."
Now, I know this doesn't happen, obviously, and, like Reiko's ending for GB version, this one was probably not even written by Midway. But I think it's still closer to the original story line than his other, I mean, Sub-Zero's mission WAS to assassinate Shang Tsung... I just thought it's interesting, that's all...

That's pretty wild, let's throw a huge monkey wrench into this and for shits and giggles say that "one of Tsung's wealthy nemies" is Scorpion. Well, he's probably not rich but u never know.
Anyways, that is pretty cool, never knew the GG had that ending.

It's the EXACT same ending as the Genesis version. When you say "as far as you know", does that mean that you played the other versions of the game and saw this difference, or that you looked them up on various websites? I've only played the Genesis version, and the ending is the same as the one you just posted for the Game Gear.
What is the other version of his ending?

Just checked your site. The GB version doesn't have their normal endings? That's a piss off.

U sure about Genesis... Damn, you're right, I haven't seen his Genesis ending in a while, all that I remember is that he had the same pictures as the arcade version... ... Holy crap, it IS the same as the arcade... I have no idea why I thought it was different... That's odd... For some reason I don't remember THAT being Sub-Zero's ending, EVER... I wonder why? Well, thx for clearing my head, pal...
The PC version (as well as all other versions I think) has the same ending for Sub-Zero, which states that his goal was to assassinate Shang Tsung. But in the ending cinematic of MKM you can see Shang Tsung inviting Sub-Zero to "a small tournament..." So killing the person who invited you to the tournament would be quite impolite, don't you think?
Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei said to Sub-Zero:
"I would like you to meet the retainer of your services. His name is Shang Tsung and he would like you to compete in a small tournament... it's called Mortal Kombat".
So it wasn't exactly an invitation, more like another mission. I didn't say it's a plothole, but let's face it, when John Tobias was writing Sub-Zero's MK1 ending he had no idea that some day he will create MKM.

All versions of MK1 have that same ending for Sub-Zero. The Genesis version is the only one other than Arcade to have the images with it, but they all say the same thing.

Now my question is regarding this wealthy enemy of Shang. I assume he/she/it is from Outworld but he may not be. If he/she/it is not from Earth what wealth or payment could they offer Sub Zero? Could it be something mystical? If heshe/it is from Earth who could it be? Maybe Kano. Kano might be wealthy and has something to gain from Shangs death.
Genesis is not the only version to have the pictures. Sega CD and PC do too.
Bo' Rai Cho is the perfect person to be the one that hired Sub-Zero if they ever decide to reveal it. In the story he hated Shang and wanted Earth to win all along, but could never enter since he was from Outworld. So since he couldn't enter, he paid someone as sort of an insurance policy in case Liu Kang failed.

So does that mean Sub_Zero didnt die because scorpion supposedly killed him (Liu killed him in the movie). But if his ending is true then he still lives. Or am i confused?

My idea is that Sub-Zero was invited to the tournament by Shang Tsung.
However, an enemy of Shang Tsung's then went to Sub-Zero and asked him to kill him since he would be competing in the tournament anyway.
That's what I say.

About Me
"Is it so important that you win one last argument with him?" "No, it is not, but it is true that I will miss the arguments; they were, finally, all that we had."

No. Sub-Zero's ending did not happen. He was killed by Scorpion before he could kill Shang, and his brother took over. Shang Tsung survived to form the Deadly Alliance after the defeat of Shao Khan and Shinnok and was probably killed by Kung Lao, with some help from Kenshi. Elder Sub-Zero is dead and buried. The 'Classic' Sub-Zero in UMK3/MKT was even revealed to not be the 'original' Subby, since he pulled his mask off, and everyone recognized him as a long-lost warrior from a past tournament. Elder Sub-Zero never revealed his identity to anyone in the first game, so 'Classic' Sub-Zero's probably someone with similar Kori powers to the 'Zero brothers that was never mentioned in the game, or someone who could mimic their abilities. My guess? It's probably Shinnok, fresh from the Netherealm, ready to kick Elder God ass and chew some mortal-soul-flavored bubblegum. But first, he needs to make some bubblegum...
