Na. When it first came out, it was sudden and silent, just appearing in the arcades. It took awhile to spread by word of mouth. The huge anti-violence whining reactions didn't come about until it was being developed for home systems, "Mortal Monday" was hyped on t.v., and then the media jumped on the violence issue. If it hadn't been so popular, no one would have complained. But it was popular, because it was a good game.

I don't remember It because I just bought MK1 a year ago. I've beaten it on a Sega game gear years before, but I couldn't even tell you when it came out.smile

I remeber not liking the game because it was hard to beat and I couldn't figure out special moves and fatalities on my own. Then the violence issue hit the media and it was all the rage. When I went back to the arcades I was supprised to see all the gamers in line to play a friggin video game. It was like "wow man", everyone here just wants to do fatalities to woo the crowd. I believe that this caused the level of competition to go up. To do a fatality meant you had to win. To win meant you had to be the best in a field of 30+ players in one arcade. You could only do this if you knew all the moves and had a winning strategy. I fell in love with the game because I am a true competitor and I was enticed by the thrill of engaging in a video game that took alot out of you just to win. And if your heart wasn't pumping enough, you still had to do a fatality for the crowd or else get booed. You want some ? Then start feeding my addiction with your tokens because the winner stays and the loser pays.wow
