not in the arcade version

i'm talking about the PS1 version. i know how to do the level select, but i was only able to choose it when i choose my fighter, when i went up the ladder i want able to choose.

You can only choose which level you start in for the 1p game, but in 2p, you can choose for every fight. If I remember correctly.
