MK4 is....Awesome.

When has MK ever had a good fighting engine? MK4 may have had shallow gameplay but it was fun, fast and great when playing with a friend who has never played before. The graphics for the Arcade and Dreamcast version were beautiful. MK4 is poorly judged thanks to the shitty PSX, PC and N64 ports. The music was wonderful, the camera was done well and the fatalities were awesome. I <3 MK4, it's my favourite classic MK. MKDA is my favourite current gen. Mk4 + MKDA > All others.

I kind of like MK4, but I would hardly call it awesome. There were things I liked about it such as the practice mode options, music, and dark ambience. It's too bad it suffered from lots of downsides.

MK3 is far superior to MK4. MK4 just plain, sucks.

I gotta say that you aren't right here brother.booN himself told, that MK wouldn`t have been so hugeley popular if there were not FATALITIES.
I speak very cool english
Mortal Kombat 4 was great when it came out, I think. I remember me and my friend trying to find out that secret kombat code to get to that cheat menu. I think what they did for Mortal Kombat 4, as most of you, was try and bring the franchise back to the darker roots of it, sseing as how the games before (mk3, ttrilogy) were kind of jokes in the eyes of true mk fans.
-Great fatalities, i konw that you cannot base the greatness of a game just by one feature, but i beileve these fatalities were some of the best, plus seeing some old favorites in 3d was awesome (toasty, spine rip, liu kang dragon). Also, there were great ideas for the fatalities, like the liu kang fireball one, plus reptiles acid spit.
-Characters. This is the last game where i think i actually liked new characters. Fujin, Quan Chi, and Shinnok were great additions to the game, and are now big names in the storyline. Though some characters were just filler (Jarek, Tanya), Most characters introduced in this game have become fan favorites.
-This is the game where i think the storyline started to get as deep as it was, plus, the backgrounds set the tone for the story. The backgrounds were dark, in addition to returning arenas such as Goro's Lair. If we count Gold as part of it, its also where Sub Zero starts to become his own person ( I beileve Gold is when Sektor challenges Sub for the grandmaster title, correct me if im wrong). I'm pretty sure everyone wanted to know the fate of the Amulet, and its disappointing to see the idea scrapped in Armegeddon.
Dont get me wrong, DA and D were great additions to the MK universe, but DA had non intereseting characters (with some exceptions) and D jus completely lost the dark edge that MK once had, and Armegeddon....well, nothing can be said that already hasn't been said. If games like Tekken and VF didnt go as in depth as they did with there fighting engines, you would love this game, but since other games stepped up in the fighting department, i think its time for MK to do the same.

I thought MK4/gold was pretty awesome, I found MKDA pretty dissapointing when I played it(1 fatality gets VERY boring after a while) and perfered MK4 over. Then I played MKD and so far thats my favorite, I havent played MKA yet but I am willing to get it and play it online for the PS2.
I might get MKDA and I maybe like it better than MKD for some reason, probably I might realize its a much better game than MKD (anyone else ever do something similar like that?).

Ya know wut, i agree. I hear a lot of Mk4 Bashin, and I personally dont c wut everyone is bitchin about. In fact, dare i say it, I think mk4 is the best mk to date. Before u all start sharpinin ur saws, hear me out. It has all of the features that made Mk classic, with the addition of gorgeous graphics and without all the things that mared previous entries ( i.e. tobias and boon trying to be funny, gross character brokeness, e.t.c.).
And Anansi, u said it man. Da and D BLEW!!! I miss the old graphics, and i think adding the new combo system was the worst decission in Mk history (even over reptiles monkey animality....). The characters loose all of there swiftness and feel clunky as hell. I wont deny the greatness of Mk1-3, but put simply, Mk4 ruled. End of story.

I can tell you are new, so all I can say is this: Do not reply to threads that are not found on the first two pages of the forum. I guess I might as well, put my input: I loved MK4 And MK3, BUT: MK3 kicked its ASS!!

"Face it - you know nothing about fighting games, and I can tell just from that one comment".
Damn, whose dick are you on? Im just expressing my opinion and you wanna question my personal knowledge of fighting games? lol. You and "RyanRaiden" apparently have nothing beter to do than make personal attacks in a FORUM!!!!Haha.
BTW: All I was suggesting when I made the combo comment is that said combo system makes the game seem clunky, slow, and eliminates entirely the airborne combat that so many people loved. Get off my dick, homey.

Mk4 is an enjoyable game. BUT MKDA-MKA are much better than MK4.
Out of the 2-D, MK3 due to the Run button and Mk1 for the original.
MK2 enjoy it and don't care for it. It is still better than MK4.

Well here it is again. The big "This game is great because I like it" debate.
Honestly folks, you can all like whatever games you want, and no one's stopping you. The only thing people cannot do is say a game is a "good" game, in terms of what the content is, at least compared to others in its genre, when it completely and totally is NOT. No one here can say or explain why MK4 is a better fighting game than UMK3 because it is not. Anyone who responds with "Dude it's my OPINION that it's a better game" is fooling himself. It's got nothing to do with opinion, it's all about taking the games apart, comparing the pros and cons of the gameplay because gameplay is what stands the test of time and fun factor, not graphics, etc. You can say you like it more regardless of how bad it might be because your opinion doesn't have to include any facts to back it up. Saying "MK4 is the best MK game ever made" is a straight up delusion.
In closing, MK4 can be fun to play, but it is a horrible fighting game.

yeah i kinda agree on mkda but i havent played decption so i cant gudge it

Well MKD and MKA are better than MKDA. But they are all the same game with different characters. MKA has every character. MK4 had great gameplay compared to the newer games. The newer game have stif controls and dial a combo crap.

MKA does not have every character.
Dial-a-combos have been in MK games since MK3.

I can help you out there, UMK3 simple. The engine in that game is good.
Also, I know some here might disagree with me but I don't care.
MK:A is the best of the 3D mk's MK:DA, MK:D.
If you play it online at high level, then you'll see what I'm referring to.Yeah, the air cancel makes for good 50% combos however online....it ain't happening, trust me.Lag ALWAYS plays a role when you play online but the addition of the parries and wake up help the current state of MK a lot.MK:D wasn't playable because it was so broken, all you needed was Bo or Dairou and you owned the whole game with those two.
MK:A, it's a lot more balanced.
But as for MK 4, well....personally I love and play EVERY MK game ever made because I'm such a huge fan of the series more then most.
But I enjoyed MK4, it's not the best MK IMO but it is fun to play.
The maximum damage as someone mentioned is a good point as far as being "limited" more so then in other MK games.
MK4 I like it, I have mine for my N64(much better then the PS version btw also) as someone else mentioned it was shit for it with loading times and freezing so it's much better on the N64.
MK4 is definitely the most hated, but MK:D is up there also.

There were a lot of things that made the PS version of MK4 stink :-/ The loading really wasn't that bad and I never had a freezing problem, but the graphics are Terrible. FMV endings and CD musics were kind of cool though.
Overall I'd say MKD or MKA should be the most hated now. MKA is just a broken steaming pile. MKD was also a broken steamining pile. MKDA was probably the best of the current gen. Mk4 was boring to me and it seemed very shallow, but I'd say overall it was a much better game than any of the MKs that came after it.
But UMK3 is still the best
