I say gameplay wise mk3 is better but graphic and music wise mk2 is better MK3 has more fighters and more finishing moves. But still i think mk2 had better fatalities if i had a choice to choose what arcade machine i could have mk2 or mk3 i probaly go with mk2 its just a great game.It brings back memories of going to the arcade in the mall its a nostalgic feel to it for me.

Thats your opinion....
I own a MK2 and UMK3 arcade, i fabricated the cabinet to toggle between the 2. My favorite is MK2. Its not that i dont like UMK3, its "ok" some of the new characters were cool, nightwolf, Kabal, Cyrax and Sector, but there were too many ninjas ermac noob rain, i mean come on man....its like they ran out of ideas, they started sweating the fact that MK3 wasnt going to be as successful as MK2 was so throw anything in, however rediculous it may be. The fatalites were horrid, not all of them, but most of them. The duplicate ninjas all having the same animations, Human smoke was a mirror image a scorpion, combos and all. What was the point in that? There are so many gripes i have with UMK3 i cant remember them all.
MK2, i cant say enough good things about this game. Skipping class to go down to the arcade spending every quarter i had on it. The had to change the coin box out 3-4 times a DAY! Thats alot of freaking quarters man. And its not even a large town that i grew up in. 1 arcade in that whole crappy lil town, no bigger and a 1 bedroom house. I have so many fond memories of that game ill never forget them.
Breaks down like this for me
MK2 PROS:
Awesome graphics
Great sounds and music
Great atmosphere
The replay value is through the roof, even single player
Great lineup of fighters
Awesome fatalties and pits, the introduction of the PIT II was revolutionary
Great gameplay
MK2 CONS:
Having to wait in line to play the damn thing
Getting migraines from starring at the screen all day
Babalities were lame, but good every once in a while when you played a crybaby
UMK3 PROS:
Some cool new fighters
The tournament mode was cool
Most of the new backgrounds were pretty sweet
Classic sub had the ground freeze, thought it was pretty lame that the other one didnt have it.
The Story line was decent
Saved me A WHOLE LOT of money. Spent about 1/10th of the money compared to MK2
Didnt have to wait in line to play this one, infact after about a month of its release you could walk right up to it and play the computer while everyone else was playing KI or SF.
UMK3 CONS:
The introduction of the combo system was a good thing. If they had put a little more time into it, it might have made my PROS section. Auto combos takes the imagination out of the whole concept.
Duplicate fighters with duplicate animations was cheap
Run button wasnt nessesary
Animalites were a stupid idea to begin with
Fatalites were dumb, 50FT Jax stepping on you is pretty lame.
Motaro was a poor sub-boss
The PITS did not do MK any favors, very poor
Gibs at the end of fatals were crappy
Many of the MK2's were replaced because of its release, the beautiful RAIDEN art work painted black and a cheap ass MK3 sticker to cover it. What a shame.
Please keep in mind that these are my own opinions, no need for flames. We are all on this board for the same reason, we all love MK and thats all that matters.

I think the following has been more than established on this board that the majority of the people:
Like MKII for the graphics, sounds and music
Like MK3 for the gameplay.
More people like MK3 for it's graphics, sounds, and music than people who like MKII for it's gameplay.
There's only a couple things that are certain though, MKII does infact have higher quality graphics, and MK3 has more indepth gameplay, this is because it includes everything about MKII's gameplay and added more. Theoretically, it is possible for two people to play MK3 as if they were playing MKII by removing things from its gameplay and not altering. This doesn't necessarily make MK3 better to everyone, but it does to me =)
MK1: Sliced bread.
MK2: Greatest thing since sliced bread.
MK3: Greatest thing since sliced bread with meat.
UMK3: Greatest thing since sliced bread with meat and cheese.
MKT: Greatest thing since sliced bread with meat, cheese, and fries.

Yeah, when you quoted me earlier, I actually realized that was my Opinion :) I was just clearing up because someone had made a claim that I would like MK2 more if I played it for the arcade. Also, I think when you point out that MK2KungBroken is expressing his opinion, that is kind of pointless to do. Everyone knows its his opinion. Even he knows its his opinion. Thats why he said "This doesn't necessarily make MK3 better to everyone, but it does to me =)"
So thank you for the opinion notices, but they can end now.

I'm noticing that even the people who vote for MKII tend to cite cosmetic/nostalgaic differences, such as graphics, music, "atmosphere," fatalities, the box art, etc. I will agree that MKII had better "intangibles." But gameplay-wise, it's MK3 all the way. If I have a group of MK players to play with, I will choose MK3 for the greater depth.

The cheesy fatalities pissed me off on the MK3s... the cutting people up with the cheesy animations, decaps were lame, explosions are okay despite the many body parts, and Sub-Zero's body Breaker was freakin' sweet... MK3's were okay though... I'll make my desicion when the MAC2 comes out... I haven't played the arcade versions in a while...
