In MKT, Rayden and Baraka were returning characters from MK2, so how come they had running sprites while MK2 Jax and MK2 Kung Lao didn't? I mean if they created running sprites for all MK2 characters and then gotten rid of the run function back in the MK2 days, then the other sprites would have running animation right? But if they created the running animation specifically for MKT, then why not create it for Kung Lao and Jax MK2 versions, as well as Kano and Rayden MK1 versions?

In short, where did the running sprites for Rayden and Baraka came from?

That's a good question! Recently I was wondering about the sprites for the blade spin and Kung Lao's superman. I remember hearing the blade spin was originally going to be in MKII. But in MKT, I think they actually got the frames from his victory pose. I'm not sure about Kung Lao, but it can't have been that hard since it's pretty much just one frame. Maybe they took his lying-down sprite and flipped it?

I'm stumped on the running though... maybe Dreemer or MK2Kung will shed some light.

If you notice, everyone in MKT on 64 has running frames, but all of the "select" hiddens who are not in it, and are in PSX, do not. They were last minute add ins, they didn't decide to film new running animations for them because they are lazy, I'm surprised they even gave Baraka and Raiden running frames, but it makes N64 MKT uniform. They used another actor to record them as well, maybe just Raiden, but probably both since you can't see the face and that didn't matter. It all comes down to laziness.

I don't think they'd use another actor for Raiden, I mean the guy, Carlos Pesina still works with the MK team. And as for Baraka, I guess it IS possible, but I'm sure they still kept in touch with Rich Divizio at that point in time I just don't see why they couldn't have used those guys to edit the running sprites for the others, I mean, guys, where did MK1 Kano's knife spin attack come from?

Quite a few things were refilmed for MK1 Kano, like his knife spin, his heart rip fatality and his victory pose. I guess the originals were just too poor a quality to use for the new game.

Baraka's blade spin, was indeed filmed for MK2 and not used. It was actually in a magazine a long time ago when they were filming it.

MK2 Kung Lao's superman could have been from MK2 originally, but I don't see it being difficult for them to just make that new, even if just by editting the existing frames.

Someone on here before said that the actor they hired to play Johnny Cage in MKT actually redid the running for the MK2 characters. That would kind of make sense since he would be the only actor (aside from the guy that played Kano) that was really involved in the filming of characters for MKT.

MK Kano's victory stance is pretty much shoulders up from MK3 Kano in white. It looks weird and hacked. And yes Chris Alexander was used to film the running frames for Baraka and Raiden. In N64 Nightwolf's friendship is juggling axes and it is a bunch completely new (or not used) frames they already had. Chances are some of the stuff was lingering around and they just decided to use it.
