Unmasked Sub Zero in UMK3 / MKT. I think it's time someone updated the tier listing, cus I just don't think he is the absolute worst in the game.

I'd agree with Kang in mk3/umk3/mkt - if only his combos did a resonable amount of damage. I guess they thought his speed compensated, but c'mon - Hp starter, pop-up combo, JK, air fireball, flying kick = 7 hits - 30%, that's just weak... (thankfully after reading a post on here, if I land the Hp starter, just go straight into his regular 7 hit ground combo, cus it = 8 hits - 37%...)

I always though Baraka got the short end of the stick. He is often seen as a one-trick-Tarkata. His blade moves have been criticized as risky, and always leaving him open. I’ve heard people say they aren’t safe enough, and the rewards are not worth the risk. I believe differently. You just have to know when to use what. I think that every character has the potential to be a powerful champion, it all depends on someone willing to perfect their skills on that character. BTW: I always though Liu Kang’s idiotic screams were funny as hell. Every time he screamed it’s like someone got kicked between the legs. Also, I don’t think Sub-Zero was underrated, he’s always been praised as a good character. It’s those who don’t know how to use him that claim he is bad.

I could name quite a few, as I tend to like some of MK's less popular characters, and use them well. I also do not trust "official" tier lists for this reason. And the fact that if you ask ten different people to rank every character best to worst, you'll get ten different lists.

Underrated characters.

Stryker- I don't see why he's so hated. A very useful character, who fit the Earth invasion storyline far better than many other characters, and unique in not using super powers.

Mavado- People say he's weak. But his hookswords are one of MKDA's best weapons, and learn long fist right, and he's got a lot of juggle combo potential.

Kai- Hard to use. But he was one of MK4's most interesting new characters, and something different from what we'd seen before gameplay wise.

Kira- A prime example of why I hate tier lists. Usually ranked low, but she combines good elements of Sonya and Kano, for a nice mix of power moves and combos.

I am also tempted to say Hsu Hao and Jarek. They're boring characters with no real need to return, but I was good with both of them in their respective games.

Liu Kang an underrated character? I know some people don't like him for what I think are silly reasons, but I've always thought his simplicity in moves, plus speed, made him a character to be feared when played by someone skilled in the game. I thought people would be complaining about him being too powerful a player, if anything. His moves aren't fancy, straight to the point, and quick! I always liked that about him. Although, they did slow his fireballs down in MK3, which I hated, but adapted to. And by the way, I love his yells! They tell you're opponent they're about to have it handed to them with flying kicks of fury! hehe

But anyway, there are a lot of underrated characters in the MK games, but one that always bugged me was how people underestimated Nightwolf in MK3. Nightwolf's instant recovery time with his quick shadow ram, plus the ability to reflect projectiles (a move I barely see anyone use) was a lot of fun for those who could easily see and predict when an opponent was setting you up to throw something at you. Especially annoying for Sub-Zero users. He also had that nice combo where you start out with the dail-up, then juggle twice with the ax, then finish with the shadow ram that did a good amount of damage. Nightwolf was one of the best characters to use in MK3 IMO. He was quick too (due to his shadow ram), and I love the characters with speed.

Stryker was most likely the most underrated character of MK3 though, and though I was good with him I didn't use him much. A cop character just didn't appeal to me, but I do think he went along well with MK3's story of an Earth invasion, especially since the portal to Outworld had opened over a large city in North America. I don't think he would have fitted in well in the other MK games though, but I think the Konquest mode in Deception hints him residing in the Realm of Order now. I think that's a perfect place for him to end up, and maybe they can fit him in a future storyline relating to that realm.

As far as underrated characters go though, I think it depends on the player much of the time. People who want to be good with a certain character usually take the time to become good, so I think even if another character does have advantages in terms of moves, it all depends on the skill of the player. Even the worst character can overcome a good one if in the hands of the right player. Just takes timing, skill, and strategy sometimes.

fujin: cud have tried to stop sektor for a while during mkda. and cud have led the heroes. and either he cud have gone crazy in mkd, or cud have tried to stop raiden from being crazy. fujin ruled and it wud have been cool to see him with raiden in mkd intro. fujin cud have been evil instead seeing as he was new to the mortals and hadnt have stuck by them for as long as raiden did. he is the most underrated

hsu hao: he looked kinda gay in mkda but in mkd konq., he looks alright. cool fatality

mavado: they soooo shud have used him in mkd. it wud be cool for him to fight the lin kuei. kabal was the worst returning male char in that game. and it wud make more sense for mavado to be looking for new recruits.

(stryker sux and i dislike him but he had a few good moves. same with sheeva)

basically: fujin shud have continued the series coz its stupid that none of the new good guys from mk3 or mk4 have returned til mkd.-(stryker,kai, fujin etc.) otherwise they have no reason to enter like johnny cage

I'd say the looky-lews underrate Stryker because they don't know the gameplay well enough to know he's a monster.

id said kitana based on how much i enjoy playing as her, ( umk3 ) but that she isn't considered that good, unless im wrong

Stryker was always one of my favourites in the series. I would love to see Kurtis Stryker come back for the next MK, with all his weapons, and maybe a couple of new ones too. Perhaps a SWAT battering ram they use to break down doors?.

All he really needs is to lose that shirt (which looks like an unwanted Xmas present from his granny) and maybe replace it with a bullet proof vest. It was great having an unwilling hero, relying on weapons instead of special powers.

Maybe Jax was a unwilling hero too? HE HAS FRIGGIN METAL ARMS!!!
I say Hotaru because the fact that he's gay, only has 2 specials, and a suck weapon mean nothing! Actually it does but still!
