I have had trouble with winmugen myself, I can't seem to get anyone to work at all. I have a bunch of characters on my site and they are all arcade quality rips I would say averaging 90% of their total frames, however no one plays like they are in MK. DreemerNJ is working on a basic def file or whatever it is that controls them so they all have a block and run button, LP HP LK HK etc, functioning like they would in MK. Let me know if you're interested.

im very interested, the prob is that i cant find any working mugen character editor or updator that runs on win xp and is easy to use, or fully functionable.

what we should do how ever is create a basic root set of functions, like a standard each fighter has, providing basic moves, combo, specail moves, and maybe one universal fatality if possible.

then in this one basic file set, put insert name where ever the fighter name is supose to be, so ppl have a refferance on what to make, and can add new features to the basic root collectivly.

i know all the fighters would then fight the same, but it can speed up the development of some fighters, and be great for new comers to mugen such as myself.

with the recent creation of MK:Kompletions, we put a couple projects we were working with on the side, like a MUGEN character of our own, and various other things, we'll start up again soon and once some progress has been made I'll post it.

Ive heard some of you all talk about Mugen in the past, what exactly is it? From what ive pieced together, it sounds like an engine where you can combine characters from all different games.

Yup, thats what I started to do but haven't had time to work on. Right now I can drop any character into mugen and it'll have an MK style buttons, mk style run and block, no air blocking, supers, pretty much all the tweaks that are easy. I figure I'd do things like that that are identical from one character to the next and then start to retrofit MK mugen chars to play in a completely UMK3 style.

My original plan was pretty straightforward and similar to what you suggest.

Step 1: Create the common moves in the main DEF files.

Step 2: Redo the characters so they are all basically identical as far as play. At this stage they will have kicks, punches, uppercut, roundhouse, sweep, run, etc.

Step 3: Add combos one character at a time and begin balancing them.

Step 4: Add special moves one character at a time and start balancing the special move and continue to balance combos.

Step 5: Once we are happy with the balancing we can start doing the fluff stuff like fatalities, intros, and the like.

But, all that stuff requires a bunch of time that I haven't had for a while.

that sounds like a pretty good plan.

what programs are you using to create the fighters, and maybe we should post links to sites that have win mugen compatable fighters to et ppl familiar with the software

http://www.attic7.com/unofficial/

for win mugen btw for the guy who asked about it, comes with one fighter, easy to add more

I used to play MUGEN a while ago, but I've lost interest in it. I heard they were working on a Windows version, but I just lost track. Where can I find it?

I am currently not editting their graphics files because I can't stand editting graphics at all. So instead I am editting the CMD, CNS, DEF and AIR files. I am using notepad for all of them.

Yeah I on the other hand love editing graphics lol so things work out. I took a character from a game that had literally 21 frames of animation and he now has well over 100, eventually we'll have a full MUGEN character.

The files are nothing but simple text. The extensions on them are only there to clarify their use. The only one of them that has any editor that I know if is the AIR file which you can edit fairly successfully with MCM, but even that kinda sucks. The other stuff is pretty much all notepad as far as I know.

It's a tweakable engine that you pretty much just slap handripped sprites of characters (which you have to program yourself or have someone do it for you) into the game, however people edit characters as well beyond their original styles, making them all DBZ level insanely powerful. Some of the stuff is criminal. The concept we will eventually go for is something so close to feel of UMK3, you won't know the difference between it and the arcade except for the intentional tweaks. Again this is all stuff we want to do, I don't know how likely it is any of it will come to fruition. MUGEN is way more in depth than a flash game, the only point and click stuff that I could do is collision box editing.

My brother was playing around with MUGEN the other day. Obviously it's incredibly broken and unbalanced, since pretty much any character you download has been created with completely different standards in mind. My brother did a 500-hit infinite combo just by repeating the bicycle kick over and over again. I think MK2KungBroken mentioned in a different post that those sprites and SFX were taken from the SNES version of MKII.

There are also a number of sprites and sounds taken from the arcade, I have about 27 different arcade quality MK characters, but I want all of them. If anyone knows where to get more than what's regularly available let me know.
