First off let me say that MKII is the best out of both. The only glitch there that is noticable is with the shadows and that is understandable. If you guys wanted the possible closest arcade vrsion of MKII, then MAT2 is the game for you. However, if you wanted an arcade version of MK3 then I suggest sticking with MAME, or PS1. The music keeps playing during a Fatality is the one biggest glitch of all. It never seises to amaze me why they would not throughlly test the game to get bugs like this one out of the game. The other huge possibly most missed glitch is with the blood during Fatalities. On PS1, my Wavent UMK3 machine, and on my MAME version of MK3 if they bleed green or black, then the Fatalities will be green, and black. Here, in MAT2 the blood is always red. Huge major let down. Don't believe it, try it yourself. The Fatalities blood is always red. Last time I checked, Sheeva had green blood, and the robots had black? The shadows problem also occurs on MK3. Another thing that made me mad was this was not the "final" version of MK3, and in the extras section you'll understand what I mean. UMK3 is the final version of the 3rd game last time I checked. MK3 was just the start of the game. In the videos we see pictures of Becky Gable but she isn't in the game, so why have that video feed? Midway get with the program, we want UMK3. It's better, more fun, and harder to play. MK3 is way too easy and all the CPU bugs are there too. I.E. CPU runs and always throws you. In my opinon if you want a good MK3 version with no load time, get the MAME version. If load time isn't the issue, then the PS1 but MAT2's MK3 is a major let down. In all I'd give the whole MAT2 package a 4 out of 10. Not too many games that fans would realy love, and who in the world would want Xenophobe? I had an exact arcade replica of that on my NES!! That is my personal review. smile

The MK II version in this game reminds me of the Sega Saturn version, with the real music and sound effects. It still doesn't give me the feeling of the arcade like MAME does. I'm just happy they finally released a close-to-arcade-perfect MK II to the public. Despite the differences between these games and their arcade originals, this game is only $20. Yeah, we were promised a bunch of stuff (arcade perfectness and such), but we have to realize that this was made to be sold for only $20, so that's how much value they placed on making this compilation. I don't know, just a thought...
Peace.

The reason Mame gives you the "arcade" feeling is because it IS the arcade version. It's not a port, it's adapted software to match the performance of the hardware using the exact same software the arcade used, on a different medium. They tried to do the same exact thing with MAT2, but did a lousy job of it. It's possible, but they weren't willing to put forth the effort. Weak.

MK3 on PSX is not as good as this. PSX MK3 is missing a TON of animation.

And I thought it was only me. First of all, hello to all here. I'm seriously new.

I picked up MAT2 for the xbox yesterday and MK3 has to be one of the worst ports I have ever seen. I can deal with most of the bugs, but the "Music during the fatality" has to be one of the most irritating bugs I have ever seen in any game. And the PS1, while lacking in animation is a far better port. At least the music and sound is right.

Thoughts?wow

The music in the PSX version was remixed and each track only last about 2 minutes

Holy fukn crap!!! This game is only $20 people. I swear, if someone sold you a brand new Corvette for $5,000 you would probably complain that it didn't have leather seats!

That has got to be the biggest example of apples and oranges I've seen in a very long time. It absolutely has no basis in reality whatsoever.

Let's stick with your example, for the sake of argument, and modify it to be more accurate in comparison to what you're saying.

Sale ad says: 1995 Corvette for sale, $5000, mint conidition, zero miles, new parts.

You get it and it has 100,000 miles on it, sounds like it's going to break down, and the seats are ripped, your favorite radio stations don't stay in memory after you turn it on, and oh yeah, add this to it:

THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO CHANGE IT VIA CONTRACT THAT DOES NOT EXIST IN HANDWRITING.

Lame.

Has anyone noticed that when playing on the Pit 3 stage it slows down and sometimes the music just stops for no reason? i personally i liked the SNES versions of MK2 and 3 better than these "arcade perfect" ones.

Yeah PSX Mk3 really wasn't that great a port. I mean it was better then SNES, but nowhere near as good as say MKT as far as graphic quality.

I swear, you people are the biggest drama queens I have ever seen. I mean, it's pathetic, really...

"Oh no, he didn't say 'Kabal'! The game's RUINED!"

"Oh no, the shadows are flickering! The game's RUINED!"

"Oh no, I can't fight Smoke! The game's RUINED!"

Well, while you folks are busy crying and quibbling over nothing, I'll be enjoying beautiful, arcade-perfect (close enough) graphics, sounds, and gameplay, finally, on a home console. It's $20, and it's Midway we're dealing with here, what did you expect? Besides that, doesn't anyone enjoy Primal Rage? Personally I'm getting a pretty good deal of entertainment out of "Hard Drivin'," "Timber," "APB," and "Wacko," even moreso than the MK games.

I have been playing MAT 2 since Wednesday and I must say that I am pleased with the MK games on the compilation. I would much rather play the MK games on this disc than the SNES, Genesis, or in MK 3's case, the PSX version. I own the Playstation 2 version of Treasures so this is the basis of my reply.

I would also like to point out that I own the standup Arcade of MK II and Ultimate MK 3. And a lot of my views will come from comparing the two.

Mortal Kombat II (Treasures)
I am most pleased with this emulation of the game. It is the arcade game. Its not a port, it is the actual arcade rom emulated by means of the PS2. The MK II is great in treasures. The music plays loud and clear, and the sound effects are wonderful. That scream that occurs when a male combatant is thrown into the spikes is priceless. The only things I noticed as most people have are the flickering shadows, which aren't really a big deal and there seems to be a little bit of slowdown, especially in the Tomb, and Shao Kahns Temple( I think thats what it is called. Its the level with the clouds moving in the backround) Its a great source for classic MK II. Fans should love it. I do. Now I don't have to go out to the garage to play it. Too bad the MAT menu interferes with gameplay. No Smoke(haven't been able to reach him) and no random select.

Mortal Kombat 3(Treasures)
I like MK 3 a lot. This version is again the Arcade game and is not a bad port. It just has some issues. Of course there are the flickering Shadows, which isn't a big deal but happens more often in this game than in the MK II. The music has issues here. The music runs into Fatalities, which is downright annoying sometimes. When you want to hear screams and the dun dun dun of the music change. Its not a horrible flaw. It doesn't interfere with the fighting. The music overall could be clearer, a lot clearer but its still a great version of the MK 3 arcade. Just a few minor bugs.

I wish UMK 3 was included on treasures II. I am determined to find it hidden in there. You'll see!

You fail to realize that playing these games at home is old news to most of us. We have been playing our [arcade backups] on PC for quite a while, so MAT2 had to be PERFECT to warrant a purchase. I mean, we already [hunted down all 20 respective arcade machines and purchased the PCBs through eBay], so there's no reason to spend $20 on IMPERFECTION!

Okay, I just got the game myself and I must say, I'm very happy with it. The MK's play exactly like I'd hoped. All my old combos work and the graphics and sound are very awesome (minor bugs aside). No big deal. I don't have any PC versions and this is as arcade perfect as I've ever seen and I couldn't be happier. Primal Rage is very cool too, I havn't played it since the Genesis version. I'm also sure there is some way to fight Smoke in MK 2. Someone will figure it out.
