I dunno if it's just me but, I think that the MK series is so special. Not only as a game but as a whole different dimension in life. It has become an addiction for me to play every MK game that has been released whether it be the arcades or home versions. Some people drink alcohol to make themselves happy. Some smoke cigarettes if they're depressed. Some do drugs to take their pain out. I play Mortal Kombat. It’s what separates fantasy from reality, MK being the fantasy of course. MK being a game that is mainly based on death upon the loser, in no way has that inspired me in real life. I was only 12 years old when MK1 surfaced the arcades back in '92.

I thank God every day that he let 2 very bright individuals (Ed Boon and John Tobias) get hired by Midway, and create this awesome franchise: Mortal Kombat. With the rest of the MK team members who also deserve credit: Steve Beran, John Vogel, Tony Goskie, Mike Taran, Carlos Pesina, Jon Greenberg, Dan “Toasty!!” Forden (excellent music composer by the way), etc.. (forgive me if I forgot your names) who continue their hard work to deliver the best.

Sure it has had it's ups and downs as the series grew, but now it is so powerful with Deception well on its way, I'm so anticipated and impatient until it's release.
Mortal Kombat is something that will always have a place in my heart no matter what. I will be 90 years old and still think about Mortal Kombat (if I get to live that long lol).
I'm really not into other games, except maybe the GTA series.

Each and every single character is special in their own way. They have their stories which keep you interested in their background, they’re appearances, special moves, in game movements, martial art styles, and of course the fatalities. MK has the most gangster characters than any other fighting game IMO. Kano, Kabal, Scorpion, Subzero, Baraka, Drahmin, etc. When I first saw Scorpion take off his mask in MK1 to do his flame of death fatality, I was like wtf?!? How did he do that!!! It was so unexpected. Or how about Subzero’s head rip? All these things have led MK to become so great. The rumors that go around in the forums which fans argue and discuss about. Talking about their favorite characters.

The fans are also what keep the game alive. I’m sure all my fellow MK fans feel the same way as I do, if not more. I do have a life outside of MK, but MK is just one of those special things. You know exactly what I mean! ;)

I just want to thank everybody that made MK happen.

LONG LIVE MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm with you man, Mortal Kombat just has that special something about it. Back in the glory days of MK2 and MK3, there was always this feeling in the air when I'd see it in the arcade. Going through magazine after magazine trying to get all the special moves, bargaining with other players for info(I traded Liu Kang's Animality for some info back in the day), the RUMORS that made their way across the nation - the mystery of it all was just amazing.

It's hard to explain, really. Something about the game just got people talking. The pit II would have been just another background in a lesser fighting game, but in Mortal Kombat it inspired a ton of rumors simply because of a couple of fighters drawn in the background (the rumor in my area was the guy on fire was "Shawn" and that he was the question mark on the battle ladder). Of course people claimed you could knock a guy into the tree's mouth, or onto the hooks in the Dead Pool, or out the window of The Tower. I can think of a rumor associated with almost every stage in MKII, actually, and that's just a testament to the incredible mystique of the series.

Man I could go on forever, but I'd better get back to work.

I really think they had a complete vision in their head for how the game should be when they started to make it. It is complete. The levels and characters and musics all went togheter in an strange way that made it kind of dark and sinister, but still somewhat grounded in reality because of the cast of actors.

I feel the same way. Now I do like playing video games of all sorts but the MK series is one of my favorite game series of all time.

It makes a great party game might I add.

it is an addiction. no matter how many times i slam the series and how many times i say i'm going to quit playing to play other fighters, i always keep coming back. i remember before MATII was announced, i was thinking to myself why i even play it anymore and how i should just quit because i can't play the old games anyway to stay a decent player. then the next day i get online and MATII was announced lol.

i think mortal kombat games are developed to get in your brain and make you into a zombie. no matter how hard i try, i don't think i'll ever be able to quit playing mk.
