I have a discussion with a person about MK1 and need to know off who or frome where all the characters have been ripped off from.

I know Liu Kang = Bruce Lee, Johnny Cage = Van Damme, Raiden = Big Trouble in Little China. Shang Tsung would be from the same Movie as Raiden am I right?

I'm sorry that I had to make this thread, because I know it must have been done already, but this site sadly doesn't have a search function for threads.

Yes, it has. Push the Search MKO button and then choose Forum Search.

I can see the Ninjas coming from The 5 Deadly Venoms. But, thats the same as the others, they are similar to but not rips of existing characters. Although the high-pitched screams of Liu are awefully Bruce Lee-ish. But how many fighting games have a Lee rip off, tons, its just how things happened in the 90s :P

I got the five deadly venoms but was disappointed at how crappy it was. i was hoping they would have the costumes and coordinating colors but they didnt. the only thing remotely close was the Centipede whos red costume vaguely looked like ermac. their masks were retarted kabuki masks too. Is there a movie that has costumes similar to the mk ninjas? or did the mk team make it up? the costumes are what makes the ninjas so cool to me.

Apparently, there is a 70's Kung Fu flick with a guy in called Liu Kang.
It also, believe it or not, has a ninja who throws a claw on a chain to "get people over here".

Or so I'm told. It's an old thread, I'll have a search for it.

EDIT: Here it is. It only has one reply, but at least we have the name of the movie. http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=47637

EDIT AGAIN:

This is what Khardynl wrote:

I read long ago that the idea for different coloured Ninjas in MK1 came from some old Kung Fu movie. Does anyone know what it was?

On a side note, did you know one of the main characters in the Kung Fu film 'Tiger & Crane Fists' is called Liu Kang? This film was made in the 1976 and alos featured someone that threw a claw on a chain to grab and pull back enemies from long range. Reminded me of Scorpion's spear.

Tiger & Crane Fists is te move they used in Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.
