It's all supply and demand. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for an mk1 board. If I didn't have UMK3 I'd probably go as high as $75, cus it's a good game. MK3 is worth a lot cus they're hard to find. Ebay is a good reference, the market sets the value on those auctions, especially if they have a low starting price.

Actually 130 dollars is about what Ive noticed them going for most of the time. Once in a while i see one drop into the 90's but its rare. Ebay is a excellent judge of what something is worth IMO. I paid 145 for mine a couple of years ago. O and expect mk1 to be 40-50

I've seen UMK3 chip sets go for $30, but I don't know if MK3 was included, I could picture people doing that, but if you get a full UMK3, you have MK3, if anything full UMK3's are probably less available than MK3.

Well some people are even selling MK1 Boards without the sound board lol, so selling only the "upgrade chips" is for real.

I hoped that UMK3 is cheaper but I will bid 110$ for it now.
By the way, if I get an Upgraded MK3 to UMK3 Board, would it be possible to downgrade it by simply removing the chips? (Of course it would be stupid but would it work?)

A couple things. Most MK3 boards have had the EPROMs swapped for UMK3. MK3 boards are extremely hard to come by, because everyone upgraded when the upgrade became available. You'll see standard MK3 boards go for $200. You can't just remove the EMPROMs to revert it to MK3. You would need a set of the old EPROMs to put back into the board.

As far as MK1 boards with no sound board, you'd have to ask the person selling, because they came out with an all-in-one MK1 board, so there wouldn't be a seperate sound board.

By the way, I see UMK3 boards go for less than $75 all the time. You should try to get one for under $100.

Regular MK3s are so hard to find. I've been wanting one for ages. I wish I could just find the old chips, because I have two UMK3 boards.

I was asking around and it seems that if you got an EPROM programmer, you can take the ROM dumps from MAME games and program them right back to empty eproms. So, if you have two UMK3s, you should give it a shot. You'll have to find the upgrade info to see which eproms you'll need to rewrite. I see EPROM programmers all over for about $125. And the Eproms go for about 2 bucks. It'd be interesting to see if it worked. You could probably make a fortune on ebay with it.

I have an mk3 board but there is more to it than just the eproms. If I remember right i think there is also another chip that needs to be changed that cannot be copied. I will look at my boards sometime and post if this is true or not. Ive seen an all in one MK2 board (no daughter board) but never an all in one MK1 board. I assume its a Tunit version of MK1?????

I know a guy from Chicago who has equipment to make roms at his college, he took the hacked version of UMK3 that is out now with Noob and Smoke selectable and put the data on whiped rom chips, something about exposing them to UV light he said will do it, and he now has a spare board with the hacked UMK3. He just thought it'd be neat to try it out.

I checked my boards. You cannot change a board from umk3 to mk3 just by changing eproms there is in fact another type of chip you need to change and I was told that it cannot be copied by a eprom burner. Maybe someone out there can do it but it doesnt sound easy.

Hey, Matt, that guy in Chicago... do you know if there's any way to get a hold of those eproms that he makes? I'm assuming you're talking about the Wavenet ones that had Noob Saibot selectable by picking Kano and doing the smoke code. If you know how to get a hold of this guy or have any other info, let me know. It sounds pretty cool.

I would be really interested in that as well. I have a ton of mk revision chips but no hacks or wavenet for UMK3

The hack is a homebrew thing some guy from like Bulgaria did, and I have had limited contact with him. What he did was hack the normal UMK3 1.2 roms so that it removes Stryker and Shang Tsung, and replaces their portraits with Dragon Symbols, and all you have to do is select the character on the screen by highlighting the dragon symbol. When you highlight it Smoke and Noob appear on the selection screen in their stance, it says Smoke when you pick Smoke and the Dragon symbol turns mostly black, and same for Noob Saibot, except it says "Kano Wins". They are entirely playable and glitch free. The guy Moe from Chicago, I talk to regularly, and all he did was just pretty much replace the rom chip data with this stuff so he could try it on a real machine, it failed the first time he started the machine, but then it worked anyway.

Mhh, at the end its pretty useless.
I mean, you can choose H.Smoke with an easy combination and is Noob Saibot the "Kano NoobSaibot" or the real one with complete new moves?
If its the Kano one wich is just a little bit faster and has the combo,s of Scorpion than its really nothing special.
(But of course I respect the rom-hacking knowledge of that Bulgarian guy)

Something wich would be more interesting is an Hacked UMK3 Rom that activates Ermac, Millena and C.Sub permanently for Kaillera.

No it's the ability to select two Human Smokes in 2 on 2 Kombat, that's why they did it. Noob Saibot is the ninja version, just a direct rip of the CPU with Kano's combos. He has no moves because he wasn't assigned anything until Wavenet, where he was just given the teleport.
