^Although, Liu Kang wasn't playable in MK:DA. I would still say he was very important to the plot of the story. His death was a HUGE part of the story.

Great thread XiahouDun84. I did take a look at this before, but I didn't know what to say. Anyway, here goes...

I agree with a lot of what you said. I too don't agree with the trinity idea of Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya.

Now that I think about it, Kitana reminds me a bit of Xena.

Very interesting insights XiahouDun84. I think Sareena has a lot potential to step up and become a more significant character and maybe even has potential to be in the next-gen MK games.

I agree with you on Noob Saibot being the central character of the Netherrealm storyline.

What surprises me is that you forgot to mention certain characters...namely Quan Chi, Drahmin, and Moloch. Afterall, those 3 are from the Netherrealm. I mean, Quan Chi would probably have other matters to deal with, and I'm not quite sure on Drahmin and Moloch, but I remember when you had that bio for Drahmin in which he's trying to take power in the Netherrealm and eventually, he and Noob Saibot form their own alliance.

Unfortunately, with the way things seem with highly probable story compacting, it probably wouldn't work.

But still, I feel Quan Chi is notable.

I'm not sure if Noob Saibot can be considered a protagonist as he's never really been a standout big threat to the main heroes. I guess you could simply say that he's the protagonist of the whole Netherrealm plotline.

I hope so. I'm going to be pissed if they waste her in Armageddon.

Thing with Quan Chi is he's not really a protagonist. He's presented as a villain, through and through. What makes Noob Saibot a protagonist is the...recently revealed...transformation from the original Sub-Zero into what he is now.
Why I didn't mention Drahmin was because it's too soon and he isn't a very crucial character...yet anyway. I'd like to see Drahmin evolve into a recurring character, because I do like his story. But now, he's just a supporting player in the Netherealm.

I agree, it may be too early and too sudden to consider Noob Saibot among the main protagonists. But the revelation that he was the original Sub-Zero makes you have to look at his story and role in a whole new way.
But in any case, I would say he is the central protagonist of the Netherealm plot-line.

I love this thread, very interesting ideas in here. I personally think that the Black Dragon could be a major player. Now that it's a clan based around chaos it has a somewhat larger appeal. It seems that Kabal's black dragon only wants the best and there are many characters in the MK universe that fit in with the whole tearing down order theme. If Kano were to return with some added muscle they may be able to challenge the new Lin Kuei.

Good stuff as always. I would also love to see characters like Jade, Ermac, Ashrah, Sareena, and others in the next-gen MK games.

I'm not so sure about Mileena though. I think I'd prefer it if she kind of disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again.

For Li Mei, I was thinking of the possibility of her becoming evil for the next-gen MKs. I don't have any concrete ideas here, but it's just an idea. If she were to become good, she should be a more prominent character as one of Outworld's great defenders. Maybe with the ending of the story for the next generation, she could become the next Bo' Rai Cho (minus the fat, drunken, and bad mannerisms thing) by being a martial arts master and teacher.

Her remaining corrupted by evil and returning in the next gen as a villain is also a possibilty. Personally, I have no real perference...I think Li Mei can work either way.

I was just pointing out her potential as a future protagonist, but like I said, she can work well as a hero or villain. If she returns I'll be interested in seeing where she goes.
