Back in October/November 1995 this all went down.....the much anticipated MK3 release. At first I had it reserved for SNES but then when I got a PS1 I got it for that.... but yeah it was exciting because PS1 was supposed to get it two weeks before the other home consoles (turned out to be only one week..it was delayed a week. I think it came out on the 7th of November maybe). I was very excited because this game was just great in arcades, revolutionary in MK terms. But Smoke was totally my fave character in the arcade.... so I really wanted to play with him when I got the home version...but remember I didn't have access to the internet at the time, so maybe the code for him was already out as soon as the game came out...but for me, I had to wait for magazines. For the longest time I just didn't think he was in the game....but then like a day before (or the day of) we left to go see some family a couple hours away for Thanksgiving (almost a month after I got the game) I found a magazine (gamepro I think) in a video store and it had the code for Smoke......I was so excited!
Man that game is almost 10 years old, weird huh?
