Is very different from what people now think of him. It made him seem arrogant and carless. Is he really the good guy we thought he was?

Heh, I hope not...it'd be a lot cooler if he was more like he was in MK1, kinda like the Punisher..like 'I'm saving your ass, but don't think I won't smoke u either'..I think he's cooler that way then he is as some dude that is just so damn good and pure you know he'll always win..and yes I know they killed Kang..kinda like going to the movies, good guy always wins (mostly)...I like that element from the old Raiden, the whole 'I'm saving my own ass, not yours' type of thing.. good thread..

yeah he was in the tournament to prove that he was better than every human in there, and then his arrogance showed him blowing up the Earth at the end of MK1. WOW.

I hate to disagree with you Shakura, but here are some of the facts regard both tsung and khan. Mortal Kombat 1: Elderly Shang Tsung had been hosting the Mortal Kombat
tournament for 500 years. One last win would unbalance the furies and
allow his master Shao Kahn to enter.
I think there were rules that bared Shao khan to get in, and when goro got hurt by Lui, Khan was absolutely furious.

youre correct shakura. My oppologies.
You had to be and here is the proof. MK was just a short project. The was no MK2 game planned.

I always liked the story stacking, adding on as the series went, because they went forward and backwards in the story. So Mk1 was the beginning. And they added background events and current events to the characters for MK2, saying why Shang had been doing that, etc. Then MK3 it dives back a little farther with the Sindel in the distant past, MK4 brings in Shinnok from before even that, and Mythologies adds a lot too.
If they had just kept in the straight line, things might have made more sense when we went back to the game and saw an ending like MK1 Raidens, but the story as a whole would not have been as cool as it ended up when you look at the whole thing.

Here's the interesting part:
Yes, Raiden has been changed to be more of a complete good guy. Yet his MK1 ending where he DESTROYS THE WORLD IN A BATTLE BETWEEN THE GODS... That's still a possibility since it's exactly what happened during his war with Shinnok centuries ago.

I never got the impression he was a bad guy in MK1 or that he destroyed the world on purpose. It was more like he invited other gods and it was just so powerful that they accidently destroyed the world. He was neither good nor evil in MK1, he was just uber powerful.

Raiden was cool back then, not that he isn't now, it's just that they made him out to be a lot more powerful in his past stories than in any of the current games. Heck, when will they make him win a tournament/war for a change (excluding his battle against Shinnok)? Imagine HE beats the next boss of MK6...

Raiden doesn't win any tournaments/wars himself because he's the mentor-figure, not the hero-figure. It would be like Morpheus destroying Smith in the Matrix, or Obi Wan killing Darth Vader. It just isn't as exciting to see an all-powerful thunder god defeat a sorceror, or emperor of Outworld, as it is to see a human mortal defeat them.

Did you know this very intersting fact, but you didnt (about raiden):
MK1 lists Raiden as being 350 lbs. So by MK:DA he lost 120 lbs! Maybe
he's on the Subway diet.

Raiden is also 7' tall.

Nitara seems about that tall.

All of their hights and weights were warped in MK:DA. But there weights are all messed up for people their size and mass(except cyrax's weight)
Raiden for example. He's 7' and very muscular. Yet he weighs only 230lbs?! Now lets compare him to a Pro Wrestler named Kane who is also 7' and is roughly Raiden's mass and build. He's 326lbs
Just an example of their weight distortion

hahaha
for the ending, I dont think that they had originally planned a sequel to Mortal Kombat, as Boon said "It was supposed to be a quick 1 time thing"

I don't think Raiden seems THAT muscular; not nearly as muscular as a character like Jax, or even Kano or Hsu Hao. But you're right, 230 does seem very light for anyone that's 7 feet tall. Same with Quan Chi, he' ssupposed to be 6'7" or something, and only weighs 210. He's also very muscular in MKDA, so he should probably weigh at least 250.

I don't know xCarnagex. His second costume where his right arm and right side of his body is showing, He looks pretty damn muscular

Im not sure, but isnt Kenshi pretty tall too, like 7' or 7'1?

Raiden does seem muscular, but maybe because he's a god his weight isn't as important as it would be to the other mortal characters, like what his real age is.
IMO Quan Chi doesn't seem that muscular. Since he's a sorceror and probably uses magic often, I don't find him as really a buffed up heavy guy.

Raiden's alt costume shows him to be muscular, but not bulky wrestler or weight lifter muscular, more like Bruce Lee muscular.
And Quan Chi seems quite muscualr; more so than Raiden, I'd say.
Kenshi is 6'1".
Also, doesn't 375 seem a bit too heavy for Bo Rai Cho? I mean, does he seem fatter than Homer Simpson, who weighs 239?
