I was always under the impression that Re-launch, jump-punch starter and jump-kick starter combos debued in UMK3, but if it is already known that they existed in the original MK3 - discard all of this post except the challenge.

Anyways, I came across this by accident messing about with Sektor combos in Arcade MK3 Rev 2.1.

Turns out that MK3 had re-launch and punch/kick - starter combos before UMK3 - they are just really hard to pull off.

They may be blockable (haven't checked) but they register on the combo meter as part of the hits and damage...

Check out the vid, it's only short to show you what can be done. It's about 5mb's, 2 mins in length and is WMV format:

Also, I'm issuing a challenge, and the winner will receive dragon points.

The 1st person who can record a full (100% death) re-launch infinite combo in arcade MK3, with proof that it is from arcade MK3 and not UMK3 or MKT (just record it like I did, with MK3, rev 2.1 showing at the top), will be given dragon points...It can be blockable, but has to be a proper unbroken combo chain. I'm pretty sure all the characters with a pop-up (except Nightwolf and Sheeva I think) can do it, some easier than others.

Good luck, first to pull it off and show it off wins! Oh and this is a very difficult challenge, so many dragon points will be awarded...

I have known about starters in MK3 since it was released on SNES. The first character I discovered it with was Sub-zero in the corner against the CPU.

They are of course blockable, and alot of people found them which is most likely why they added them. The reason why they work is because the recovery time is long enough on the stun, and the ground attacks are fast enough to hit while still within it's duration to combo, and it has to be close enough to the ground as well.

I wanted a full Sindel combo with HP starter including a knee lift in the pop up each time, I managed to get it to the last volley a couple times, but then I had to go to work.

Yeah, I kinda guessed that this was known - seeing as how the game is ten years old or so...

However, I myself didn't know that they existed - I even looked around these forums before posting and found absolutely no info or even a mention of MK3 relaunches or punch/kick starters anywhere.
I bet only a select few people know about them, which is understandable since they aren't exactly useful, are very hard to pull off, are blockable and the fact that people just don't play MK3.
And I bet your right, that they were added into umk3/mkt after being found accidently in MK3...(like so many other accidentaly found things in the MK series that got added later as a result).

Funny, I found Kabal one of the harder characters to get the re-launch combos with. Sektor and Sindel were the easiest for me, but then again I wasn't trying all that long...

Nice, that sounds pretty difficult to get. The challenge is still in effect, and the more difficult the combo - the more dragons I'll give out...

how about a Dragon point for each volley? This is as far as I seem to get and mess up each time:

www.darktemplarz.com/umk3/sindelmk3relaunch.wmv

that would be 4 volleys and *should* have been five, then aaHP, JK air fireball would have put it over 100. I don't know why she rapid HPed there, I must have been off a millisecond.

I was gonna give 5 to anyone who could get it, so one for each relaunch sounds good to me.

Also, very nice - that was defintely an impressive clip, I never got past the 2nd relaunchtongue So to get 4 volleys (and the kick starter toowink) takes some doing, again - very nice.

Oh, if anyone wonders why he gets four dragons, go try it...then you'll understand.
