My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember on the back of SNES MK3 box seing pics of people fighting on a portal level. The foreground had a bridge like The Pit 3 and the background had the redish portal background you see during the "choose your destiny" screen. I also remember that when you unlock Smoke he says that he's at your control on this stage as well.

Can someone get pics of this stage to back me up? How do you get to it?

Umm, I don't have pictures and I have only managed to access it on PSX version of MK3... Simply by entering the cheat code and selecting the level from the Choose Your Fighter screen. I know what you're talking about, but I never seen it on SNES.

I own the SNES version of MK3 myself. From what I can remember you can fight on that stage via the various codes like }cool stuff,, or cooler stuff ,or Scott stuff. I forget but it might be one of those codes you could use to select that level to fight on. Also I am 100% sure you can do a vs screen code to get to that level. I can remember for sure you fight on that level every time you input the code" fight smoke vs screen code". That level was one of my favs on the Snes MK3

On SNES the only time you ever see that stage is when you fight Smoke, unless you've unlocked him then you just fight him in the Belltower. I do believe the vs. screen code is 933-933 ^_^

The only time you can play on that level is if you use the Kombat Kode to fight Smoke, and even then you cannot have him as a selectable character to start with. If you have Smoke unlocked, you won't get that stage.

And 933-933 is for the Blue Portal in UMK3, not the orange one.

I think the kombo kode for fighting against Smoke is 205-205.

Wasn't the Orange Portal just an SNES and Genesis exclusive? I thought they figured use the choose your destiny background as an extra stage. Matt

Wasn't that stage in the arcade version as well? Not to fight on, but just to show Smoke saying "Now I'm at your control" or something?

It's in the arcade, SNES, and PSX versions of MK3 as far as I know. Genesis doesn't have it (given it's just not as big a cartridge to have it). But to get there to fight Smoke, Smoke cannot be a selectable character. In other words, the dragon symbol must be in Smoke's place at the Select Screen, and not Smoke's picture.

Thanks, I've had MK3 for years on the PSX and I dont think I've ever done the: fight Smoke after RD 1 code (which is 205-205 on the PS.) So I just tried it and there it was, the secret portal level with the 'choose your destiny' thingy's in the background. So yeah, the PS has it and I'm glad it does, too bad that Smoke is a tricky charcter - I almost had him w/ Sektor but he just blocked my tele-uppercut and bam - counter uppercut of his own. Damn, better go try again...

I remember the old portal. I called it the Eartrealm, or Orange Portal. It was available in every version of MK3. After you unlock Robot Smoke with the UKK of 1090222234 the stage also becomes available. When UMK3 was released, the Orange Portal was then removed, and replaced with the Blue Portal which had the same music, and became available when you unlocked all three UKK fighters. Plus, when you play as Human Smoke in a one player game in UMK3 it is the only stage you fight in as well.

I played it once after you guys said the code.
Oh, Quirk, you play M.U.G.E.N with MK characters, right? Well, this secret portal level was converted into a MUGEN stage, for your information.

You must not mean this box (bottom left corner):

Beats me. I spent quite some time myself wondering how 2 players could end up at that stage. But if you notice in those images the Run meters are yellow, not green like they ended up being. They probably took those shots during development and then left them in there.

I don't know which system your box cover is for, but for my PSX MK3 that level is selectable. I don't think it is if you just start Arcade mode, but if you turn on stage select, the 'Secret Portal' stage is playable - so Smoke doesn't have to be on that stage, it can be any 2 fighters.

My box cover is for SNES. I'm aware that the orange Portal is selectable in the PSX version. I even have mags that say how to do it. But I've never played the PSX version.

oh ok, my mistake. But it seems that some people thought that it was only available through the 2player code to fight Cyber Smoke, so now they know if u turn on stage select, u can use that stage as much as u want.

Remember the SNES MKII box, which had that pic o Shao Kahn with 'OO Wins' above his lifebar, rather than 'PRESS START'? Oh, what that started...
