Grey and no mask is his alternate costume.

The Skull Stage has been around for about 8 years now
As for the Scorpion's outfit from the pics, just highlight him, hold START and press any button 2 times to rotate his box. Then pick him.
i dont know what you are talking about, so it must only apply to the home console versions which I havent played for like 7 years and never will again after experiencing how crappy they are compared to the already crappy mk4 arcade version. But after seeing that mk4 vid, I would play mk4 arcade again.
Man I have forgotten how bad the graphics are on Playstaion. The N64 version of Mortal Kombat 4 had better graphics but the Playstaion had only 32 bits while the N64 had 64. Well I knew about the Skull Stage but had to be reminded of it. It's cool and all but it's quite plain. It would be a cool thought to redo this Skull Stage and maybe bring it back into MK:Armagaeddon maybe? It's just a thought. This is a cool thread BTW dude. Two thumbs up.

no, his alternate costume is red like Ermac. It's start plus HP Block and HK at the select screen. It was the most used in tournaments in the 90's.

Now that is his P2 costume; on the home systems, all the characters could select their P2 costumes, as well as completely new costumes, by simply holding the Start button and pressing any of the selection buttons a certain amount of times. One could play as an unmasked Sub-Zero, a formally-dressed Cage, a Bruce Lee Liu Kang, a ninja Reptile (with green skin all around instead of normal, which was so cool), and a few other ones I can't remember.

wow now thats the tihs !!!
It's not in the arcade version. Arcade is also missing that Ice Pit.
Sub-Zero's unmasked costume is in arcade, it's just his regular second costume. His 3rd, special home version costume, is the one where his arms are frozen.

I had no clue, I thought that the frozen one was his alternate, seeing as the costume was the same, just with some frost on the limbs.
