The Kung Lao that defeated Shang Tsung and later was killed by Goro 500 years ago had a son with his wife or whatever....

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had a son

and that son had the Kung Lao we know today.

Kung Lao is the descendent of the old Kung Lao.

In my opinion, even though in the arcades they say they are different. Kung Lao with the hat, and the Kung Lao that was defeated by Goro 500 years ago are the same person. In a comic called Mortal Kombat Blood and Thunder, the Kung Lao there with the hat appears to Liu Kang first in Outworld after destroying a tree in what appeared to be the Living Forest with lightning speed. In a way, I believe that after defeat at the hands of Goro, Kung Lao was placed in Outworld, and later escaped when Shang Tsung invaded the Earthrealm to get revenge on Liu Kang according to the MKII comic. That's just my opinion. Just like in the MK1 comic it says that Liu Kang's twin brother Chow Kang was lost. I believe that Shang Tsung place Chow Kang in Outworld as well during the MK tournament before the one Liu Kang won. That is why we see him in the MK2 Pit II backround.

Hey, when it comes down to analogy, I think Liu Kang is more Luke Skywalker, while Kung Lao is more like Han Solo. Eh? EH? grin

Actually Liu Kang was also a descendant of the original Kung Lao. Apparently Liu and Kung Lao Jr. are related somehow; probably cousins.

But one thing, though: were Shaolin monks allowed to marry, or did they, like Christian monks and priests, follow a life of celibacy?
