I've heard and read of a way to do the ESS (Sidestep with the "whoosh" sound) without sidestepping when an opponent attacks. I read that if you pressed the Block button and pressed Up or Down right after, the ESS would initiate. I tested this but it didn't work, so I scratched it off my list of "things" I haven't tried in MKDA yet. Are there other ways to perform an ESS without having to be attacked by an opponent?

I just lightly tap up or down. But I always do it when they're about to attack.

The only way to do it is to sidestep as you are being attacked...unless you are holding up/down after doing Kenshi's Tele-Slam.

Maybe U mean a side step cancel? example: u, block, u

It's what it says, u cancel the first sidestep, sometimes useful...

Yah, the actuall side step only accures when you are attacked. However, as everyone knows sometimes the SS is SUPER big, putting you on the other side of your opponet. I've been trying to figure this one out. Is it random, or a property of the move; IE, attack "A" gives a large SS while attack "B" gives a small SS. Iv'e noticed the big SS accures most often on what seams like a sure, clean hit from the opponet. Almost like there is a thresh-hold between getting hit and and SSing the attack, which causes the large SS. Heh, anywho, peace and love ya'll.
